Title: Million Dollar Baby....

Very good flick, highly recommended. More powerful than I'd imagine it would be. Was good to see a movie without the conventional Hollywood ending.

Just got back from seeing it, even got my wife to go.  We both agreed it was an excellant movie.  Hillary Swank always does a great job, and Morgan Freeman is one of my favorites.  Clint does a good job too of course, pretty much typical Clint role.

Morgan Freeman Is one of the best actors out there right now.
I don't think he has been in a bad film.

Oh come on, Robin Hood would have been a good film if it didnt have Costner in it.

Freeman was good in it anyway.

Robinhood is comedy gold! Everyone else trying to act and doing a decent job, and there old Kevin is being himself.

Yup, ya summed that up pretty well.  Costner almost always just plays the "quiet, strong, humble plain talking hero" he thinks he is.  Somebody should tell him he isn't,  he is just another Hollyweird male diva.

Dago, I think calling him a male diva is still giving him to much credit:D

The only film Costner was palatable in was Open Range. Maybe because Robert Duval was so good it just made Kev look better.

MDB looks to be a lock at the Oscars. Clint doesn't direct many bad films.

Clint directs great films (Space cowboys, and Bridges of Madison county weren't my thing though)...

Costner was good in Now Way Out, Bull Durham, Field of Dreams,Tin Cup, A Perfect world (Clint directed), Thirteen Days and in Dances (although Scorsese should've won best director with Goodfellas)

Morgan Freeman is usually good even in crap films (Chain Reaction, Hard Rain) although I thought he was pretty ordinary in Dreamcatcher

Every movie Costner has ever made would be better without him in it.

open range was very good despite costner.   There are simply some actors that can lessen or ruin any movie...cruise is one cage is another... julia roberts it very much one.

Costner - bland, plays the same thing in most movies.

Cruise - okay actor, but maybe a tad to much ego, and dealing with short guy syndrome.  Owns a P51 so gotta cut him a little slack.

Cage - Again, okay actor, nothing really special. Not particularly good looking, expect he is  a little strange in real life (but aren't we all?).

J Roberts - Can look pretty good, or pretty rough.  Good actor, but not Meryl Streep.

Many actors are overrated.  Some good ones underappreciated.

Robert Duvall - a great actor with charisma all over the place.

I don't know... cage is of the "everything is the end of the world" emotional school of acting...  "No sugar in my coffee!!!"  sweeps everything off desk in a rage and then starts sobbing kinda acting that I really can't stand...  thinks acting depressed means acting.

Basically, you are saying he overacts?

Robin Williams in a surprisingly good actor I think.  Maybe I shouldnt be surprised, he is a very intelligent individual.  You cant be that funny without a very high IQ.

The Untouchables?

As for Morgan Freeman, he's been in too many GOOD flicks.  Glory, Shawshank Redemption, Kiss the Girls, Seven, and many others.

I've come to realize (I don't know if anyone else senses this) that Nicholas Cage doesn't read scripts, prior to accepting roles.

PS - Raising Arizona was his best role, IMO

I liked Raising Arizona.   I have always liked Holly Hunter, and the dialog in that movie was the unique feature that made it so funny to me.

Raising Arizona was brilliant and the Coens brothers script was fantastic.

Cage has more misses than hits, but I did like The Rock, Face Off, Con Air, Honeymoon in Vegas, The Family man...

The Family Man was a good flick, but for me most of that is because Tea Leoni was in it.  :aok

Can't agree with you on Con Air, I kinda thought that one sucked.

Speaking of Robin Williams, he regularly visits the pediatric wards at UCSF to cheer up the patients- and their parents.

My niece gave birth to a preemie few weeks ago and the baby is still in the hospital but coming home next week. She's seen Robin Williams there several times, and her and her husband got a pic with him.

The guy is a class act who genuinely cares about people.

Con Air is a terrorist film.  I cannot bear to watch what they do to that 'vette.

Nicholas Cage is a bit of an enigma.  He's great in some roles and horrible in others.  He definatly doesn't fall into the category of hurting every film he's in.

Tom Cruise is someone that seemingly hurts every movie he's in.  I have not seen a movie with him in it where that wasn't the case.

Costner is good in very specific roles.  Basically, he isn't a very diverse actor.  But he's good when the role is right.  Open Range and Dances with Wolves were examples of that.

Al Pacino is one that gets praise that I just don't understand.  He acts exactly the same way in every movie he's in.  In some movies it works wonderfully, but in others it's totally out of place.  He's not diverse at all, but at least he's selective and knows his limits.

But the utmost violator of all that is acting is quite simply Keanu Reeves.  I don't understand how he keeps getting roles.  Surely someone in hollywood has seen at least one of the movies he was in?

As for actresses, there are so many horrible ones that it's tough to single out a few.  Hollywood is so hung up on looks and figures that they've totally forgotten about acting.  But, there is one upcomer that is simply horrible in every single role she's been in.  The success of "her" movies has been the result of every single other person in them.  That would by Tara Reid.  A truly horrible actress with very pretty eyes.

There are a couple that have always impressed me:  Val Kilmer and Johny Depp.  I try to see every film they're in with the possible exception of "the doors"... but that's a presonal issue with the subject material.  Both actors are simply incredible.

True. Depp is simply amazing. Didn't really like him at first but as his credits piled up I came to view him as extremely talented. The guy is good in just about everything he does. Excellent, even.

You really shouldnt let that affect your decision to go and see the film though.  Val Kilmer has to be one of the best character actors out there, everything I have seen him in has been excellent.

His performance as Jim Morrison though was unbelievable.  In fact, the casting for the whole band in that film was nothing short of a masterstroke.

Seriously, rent it and watch it, if only for the acting performances.

No kidding, MiniD?  I liked Cruise a lot in Minority Report, thought his acting was impressive.

There was an article recently in some NYC paper about Clint and MDB.  Apparently the studio he works with didn't want to fund him for it, even after the rampant success of his last one.  He was furious, turned to another studio, and presto.  Fairly low-budget Oscar winner.
