Battle of the Bismark Seas
Okinawa Map
Allies:
P-38G, P-40E, Boston III, A-20G, B-24 and B-17 (rear most Allied base only, to represent Port Moresby), C-47, all the M's.
Imperial Japan:
A6M5, Ki-61, Ki-67 (sub for Betty), Kate, Val, C-47, all the M's.
No CV's; this was a land-based battle, and all the CV's were either out of action or busy in the Central Pacific

I predict crickets, birds singing, the sounds of nature, a baby softly cooing, cool jazz or anything but the sound of aircraft. see ya's in a week. :D
-
Boy... aint it great to see such a wide variety of allied aircraft in the same setup?
I wonder what other badly needed allied ride will be released next patch...
-
Removed the A20G, added the A6M2. Arena now up and running.

What about the wave softly lapping the sandy beach while the hammack sways to and fro in the shade of the palms.

so it's the twin eng spitV against the japs this week ...
how about the russian setup next week la5/f4f against 109/190

I've flown around 5 sorties with this set up. the Ki64 is performing like the 109F4 again albeit slower to climb. It's not really hindered much so actually the set up is fairly balanced. I haven't flown the Zeke yet.
The P38G is a monster not that it surprises me. Slash should have a very good week.
I'll fly the set up a l'il bit but I second Eagler's request for the following week.

I did... and my bellybutton still hurts lol.
So, I up my first couple of sorties in the CT in... probably a year and a half. Last night in the FSO I noticed how, when flying the Zeke, I tend to try and dive out of trouble which was a bad idea. So when I noticed this setup, I figured it would be a great chance to get some zeke time.
I take up a zeke, and just get demolished. I can't figure it out, I can't immel the thing, and I start to stall in turns no matter what I do. Finally Storch tells me that I'm fighting with DTs on.
I'm a handsomehunk. So I take the tanks off, and wow, this thing is flying great. Now, I can actually set up a kill before getting iced by another plane lol. The last straw was when I killshootered myself after stalking a 38 for 5 minutes.
I had to up a Ki-61 just to save my self esteme lol.

Ya the zeke still doesn't seem to be where it should be modelling wise. It seems to stall way too easily with minimal control imputs especially at slower speeds.

I dissagree. Once I got rid of the tanks it performed just fine. It is simply too hard for me to switch from a Yak to a Zeke and achieve any kind of decent result.

I'm glad some folks are giving this set up a chance. It kills me we don't have some of the other a/c that fit this battle, like the Iron Dog (P-39) and the B-25 and the real Betty. I've flown a number of sorties and find I kind of like the P38G, though I feel outclassed by some of the Ki-drivers I've had run-ins with.

This setup has attracted a lot more people than I figured it would. Much to my surprise, the 38 does not dominate. And, oddly enough, I have yet to fly a Japanese plane this week, because the side imbalances (which have been minimal) have worked the other way.
Good job, Sabre.

Thanks, Oldman. Yeah, I usually end up flying Japanese all week, but not this go-around. The IJ planes hold their own nicely against the USAAF planes. It's been fun.

Another good example that we need a lot more of the early and midwar aircraft. The P-38G really has been getting a lot of play in the CT lately.
Be nice to get some of the others like the A6M3 ZEKE, OSCAR, BETTY, HE-111, 190A-3, LAGG-3, MIG-3, I-16, YAK-1, PE-2, SB-2, P-40F plus many others.
After we get all the good stuff might even look at some of the realy early war stuff. HE-51, AR-68, I-16, CLAUDE, NATE, Bf-109B or C for Spainish Civil War or China War scenarios.
When these planes start coming online with the new maps that are in production we can do some real interesting set-ups in the CT.
! :aok

You want early war planes well here you go.Enjoy, this pilot did to the point of 62 kills.:D

As an Afterward to my earlier post...
Thanks to everyone who kicked my bellybutton in the CT. I learned my lesson, and managed to bag 2.5 P-40es during the past Squad Ops in the SEA. All because I learned the value of "Pull up and left" lol.
So and thanks again.

the value of "pull up and left"? I don't get it? You mean something specific, or you mean you never knew to turn high? Or what? I'm not following.

Normally, I fly Yaks, So my first instinct is to speed up the fight, by using a split S, or Low yo-yo type maneuver. I've been flying the same two planes for so long, that it's become second nature to me. So, when flying the Zeke in an Event against P-40s, I found myself pulling down and out, building up speed, that gave the advantage right to the P-40s. It took some actual practice for me to get into the mode of trying to scrub my energy for a quick 6 shot, as opposed to building/maintaining my speed for a protracted scissor fight.

One of the nice things about the CT is that it forces you to get off your butt and experience some variety. How many people in the MA get any significant experience in flying the Tony, or the P40, or the Emil and Spit/Hurri Is, I wonder?

As I'm sure you can appreciate, I don't have a lot of time for experimentation :p

True. I'm surprised you have any time at all. Good example of a master of time management.
