That looks like a tough one. I'm not having much luck myself. I think I need better software, but it ain't in the budget.

Most of what I was looking at doing you guys are already doing better than I could. I'm still looking at  Robin Olds' "Scat", Art Heiden's "Lucky Lady", and Mac MacDonald's "Putt Putt Maru". There's some stuff from the Headhunters I looked at as well, I have a painting a friend gave me (Sweet Sue), and I know Ken Lloyd, he flew with the Headhunters, he's trying to hook me up with the pilot of "Sweet Sue".

I believe that's "Japanese Sand Man". I'm not sure I've ever seen a profile or color version.

Great choice there Kev.   Very colorful and I bet lotsa pilots will want that one.

Virgil, I have started Robin Old's "Scat II" P-38J.   Its OD/grey with full invasion stripes.   If that's the same one you're working on I'll change to a different one.

btw if Japanese Sandman is a "G" I'll give it a try if you can get me more info about squad/FG.

Any idea on the green used on the dragon?

Gonna have to 'fudge' a little due to stretching on main gear doors.

oboe, unfortunately I have low budget software, and even lower budget talent. I have not had any luck as of yet, please continue working on "Scat II"

I'm not sure what model "Japanese Sandman" is, but I'll look into it. I'm sure Dan will have the information already.

Japanese Sandman is a very well known bird.  She's an H-5

Her pilot visited her wreckage, still in the jungle not too many years ago

Dan, I think your are right, the intakes are too deep.
Found out while doing the sharkmouth.
If you follow lines in pic it ends up 1/4 inch down the intake on our model, not at the top as it should be.

Oboe.  The Opsrey profile of Scat II is wrong.  Photos clearly show Scat II as a natural metal bird.

Rats - I really liked the look of the Osprey profile - OD/grey, red rudder, and full invasion stripes.   Lots going on there.    Know of any other J's that are similiar to that appearance?

That is ...  P-38H-5-LO "Japanese Sandman II" Serial 42-66905

The plane was assigned to the 35th FG's 39th FS and was serial Number 42-66905. It was originally piloted by Lt. Richard E. Smith, who gave it its nickname, naming it "II" as it was replacing his original P-38 that was damaged from engine stress during the Japanese air raid on April 12, 1943 against Port Moresby.

Japanese Sandman was #26

Japanese Sandman II was #33
