Title: Got this far...in my baby steps...lol
Post by: Waffle on February 07, 2005, 12:51:00 PM
OK created a runway / runway tile in OE:

Made a small map, added stock small feilds and one instance of the above feild. Below are the small feilds with the runways funked up, and the last pic is of the object I created.

Zbuffer problems? Do I have to "elevate" the "layers" in 3d editing? If so, is there a guestimate to the range?

Index for the feild object I created was 0 for the grass tile and 1 for the pavement.

Edit - pictures cleared for server cleaning :)

You can not put 2 objects on top of eachother like that in the terrain editor.

Btw the .til files are just texted files, it would be fairly easy to cut and paste the objects from the field type you want  to your new tile.

??? I'm getting confused...

The object that I made in OE(first pic, runway, and textured plane), once built and place in the TE looked like that.

I'm confused as to the 2 objects on top of each other.

That should be one object right, if built out of the Object editor?

If you are just placing it beside the old air field.

Then the problem is that you need to check the last 2 check boxes in files/properties of the Object Editor.

If you were trying to place your new layout on top of the old field in the terrain editor, that is what I was saying wouldn't work.

lol - Wasn't trying to place it on top, just ended up next to a small airfeild (only reason I posted pics of that was due to the runway oddity on it)

I went and tried it again - built same object in OE with "is square tile checked, as well as "display terrain underneath" checked.

Same results - I'll mees with the  text labels to see if that might be the problem - just saw the post on that.

Question about the Tile properties

If I'm making a textured plane (ie lrgfeild grass, to go underneath the runway tarmac) do I need to have display texture underneath checked?

The reason is - is that if I choose a terrain to display underneath - it subdivides into 4 sections over the square mile. Hence not being able to have dirt follow runways, paths if going that route.

But in Ac3d - I can create a 5280x5280 plane and texture it appropriatly to the runway layout.

So all in all just curious about the "display terrain underneath"

If it is completly filling the 1 mile square, then you do not need to check the display terrain tile.

Also export one of our grounds and look where there zbias is set.

Btw all the settings are in the comments of the objects in ac3d. Including LOD settings.
