Seems to me the P38J when loaded with rockets and 1k eggs and then dumped is a very very different bird when just loaded slick. It acts like a pig. Maybe the weight isn't changing after stores are jettisoned? Could someone help me check this out?

It is a different when you load rockets because the tubes remain after you fire them.  It's not a huge amount of weight but the drag is significant.
