Track down the book "Doomed at the start" about the air war in the Phillipines at the beginning of America's entry into WW2 just after Pearl Harbor.  Captured American pilots actually flew a couple of those P40s back to Japanese airfields for the Japanese.

Looks like a B17 in the background all of those were captured?  Perhaps it was a ploy to get the Japanese not to shoot at them for a little while?

Nope, the Japanese actually captured 3 B-17's in the Phillipines.

If the japanese testing of the P40 had inflated the performance of it as much as the US tesing of the KI 84 inflated the capabilites of that plane..even the japanese would have quit in 42.
