Just purchased this card installed loaded Aces High, and wow awesome graphics, took off to get an air view of these graphics, when approaching enemy field I see parts of the runway disapearing and reapearing the objects on the field all stayed in place and looked great, can some one help please and thanks.

Please.

Did you load the drivers from ATI's WEB site, or from the CD which came with the card?
What in-game settings are you using?
-
I used the CD, Graphic Detail is at default, Resolution is 1280x1024 and Max texture size is set at 512, these two settings were done by the card, also I don't have any of the preloads set. P.S. I've found that unchecking the Hardware Vertex Proccessing box solves the problem of the disapearing runway but effects the graphics, makes things square and blotchy.
-
Turn the resolution back to 1024x768, set the maximum texture size to 256, get the latest drivers from ATI's WEB site, and in the ATI control panel set the slider in the '3D' tab to one notch left of center.
Also note, do not install the Catalyst Control Center.
That card is basically an ATI 8500 card. only slightly slower. With the settings you are running, the card will be thrashing a bit.
-
ATI latest drivers do not support this card (9200) under Win 98SE and Win Me.
This exact problem was discussed at length in the early AH2 bug forum and eventually HT stated he could not find a fix.
The symptom is one where runways and other ground objects continually redraw them selves as you move over them or fly over them........
In the end I dumped this card from Shifts PC for an equally cheap but significantly more effective GForce 5700 128 LE.
So it seems that if you have XP then download the latest drivers.........if you do not then go get a better card.............
-
Ahhh. I did not catch it was 98/ME. Most companies are stopping driver updates for those two operating systems.
-
I have XP Installed drivers from website, fixes the runway problem but turns the horizon black any suggestions?
-
This is odd. That used to happen on my old 8500 I have here.
I just realized ATI has released new drivers. I wonder if that bug crept back in. Falcon,..I checked my old 8500 and it has the Catalyst 4.4 drivers installed.
Give them a try and see what they yeild.
EDIT; At home, I think I am using the Catalyst 4.12 driver with my X800XT card. I'll have to check when I get home.
-
Its working great now, 4.4 drivers were it, Thank you Skuzzy. <
>
-
So that old bug has crept back in. I wonder if it effects all ATI Radeons, or just the 92xx cards.
-
I have a Radeon 9250 card here. Just reinstalled the game after reformatting and I have the some problem. Black horizon and black dots instead of reds and green. I I go into ingame settings and look at coulor for teams and ennemies the big square stays black no matter what I do.
-
Which Catalyst drivers are you using Kan? I would like to know if the 4.12's cause the problem as well. The 4.12's work fine with the X800 family.
Kan, you might have to go back to the 4.4's as well, but let me know which drivers you are running first, thank you.
-
Here Skuz
Catalyst_51_Suite then updated to wxp-w2k-catalyst-8-10-050119a-020581c but no change
-
Skuzzy I just noticed last night that the shoreline and transitions between tiles flicker and disapear, I tried rolling back to earlier drivers but they all have the same effect, funny thing to that everthing was working just fine till last night any ideas?
-
Kanawa, those are the problem drivers. Grab the Catalyst 4.12 drivers from ATI's site and try them.
Falcon, I think you need to go to later drivers, but I am not sure where the problems got introduced. You might try the 4.12 drivers and see if they work better.
-
The 92xx series cards are only DX 8.1 cards based on the 8500 series, and 9000 series cards. They dont support DX 9.0 and I'm not sure the newest Cat's will support that card either. The 4.12 is the best option I think.
-
i have a radeon 9250 with CD drivers and have no problems, OS is XP.
driver i am running is 6.14.10.6483, latest is **** 6512.
also running directx 9.0

Ummm...... The newest driver on the ATI website is the Catalyst 5.2. The Catalyst 5.1 drivers had several problems and didnt really do much for older, or value cards like the 92xx series. I doubt they spent any more time developing drivers to better implement old technology when they are still getting the bugs ironed out of the support for the newer cards. Anything after the 4.12 Catalyst drivers isnt going to give you any performance increases or "bug fixes" if you have any of the older cards.
I didnt say you couldnt install DX 9.0 with these cards. You can. The card just wont support DX 9.0 shader implementations. The best it can do is 8.1 levels. If you doubt that, look it up on the internet. There are several places you can get unbiased reviews of the card and a history. If you want to check up on my info on the drivers, I suggest starting at
http://www.driverheaven.net
There are several other sites that deal with drivers as well, including
http://www.omegadrivers.net
and most especially go to
http://www.ati.com
Read the BB forums at any site and search for your video card, or for the specific drivers you have a question on.
Good luck!
-
Hey tks for all the suggestions guys.
I'm not real good at all this...soo...do I have to remove previous drivers first before I download and install 4.12 ?
-
Yes. Uninstall the old drivers first, then install the new drivers. This ensures a clean install of the new drivers. Also (from personal experience) double check your Direct X install after you change video card drivers. Sometimes the DX install can become corrupted.
Good luck!
-
Still having the same trouble, I have tried every set of drivers ATI has for this 9200 card w/no luck, anyone?
-
Allright....seems like problem is solved w 4.12
Donno what causes this but when i use bomb view in b17 it is position like if i was sitting sideways in the aircraft...

You said the 4.4 drivers worked fine, but you had problems with the shorelines and transitions? I'd go back to that driver, then start adjusting your video options. Also, check to see what "view mode" AH is in. Flying a plane while you are in groud vis mode can cause such flickering.
-
I returned it and got a e-GeFORCE MX 4000, thanks for all the help guys. <

It would be nice if Hitech would archive the "magic" drivers that work with its game. None of the links in this thread work anymore and the ATI website no longer gives access to archived drivers. I have the Radeon 9250 and connot find the driver I need anywhere.
-
Its not magic drivers. There happen to be bugs in the new Catalyst drivers for the 9000 series video cards. You have to remember, the 9000 series cards are built on technology approaching 6 years ago (the 92xx cards use the old 8500 video chip). That's a millenimum in video card terms.
And it is a shame ATI stopped allowing direct links to the drivers.
The Catalyst 4.12 drivers are the ones to use with the 9000 series cards. All the new cards from ATI work fine with the new drivers.
You have to expand links in the left column of the ATI driver download page to get to the previous versions of the Catalyst drivers.

Thank you for such a quick response. What I needed was right there all along. I just didn't see it. The game works flawlessly with the driver you reccomended.
