I didn't think I'd see another person that had seen them. I got to see them in the tavern I worked at after they had done a concert in the Tacoma Dome. Robert Cray is from Tacoma and a lot of us grew up with him. He played the concert with Buckwheat and came to the tavern that our friend owned. Needless to say, the 75 person capacity was tripled. Buckwheat and Robert Cray's bass player jammed until closing.
:aok

Not much of a concert person myself but I have seen:
REO
Nazareth
John Cougar(before he was Melencamp)
Heart (only went to see them because John Cougar was the opening act)

The day before, the club completely redid the stage. New monitors, new carpet, the works. All standard grey.
By the time they got off the stage, everything grey was red. Permanently died red, and was red until the day the club closed. Looked natural, actually. That was a fun show fer sure.

Veruca Salt.
The Pretenders.
Rockpile.
Blondie.
Dave Edmunds.
The Swimming Pool Qs.
Bela Fleck & the Flecktones.
Dr John.
Ray Charles.
I haven't been to a proper show in years. Most of these were 72 through maybe 97. I try to catch the Pocono Blues Festival every year, but I've missed it probably 4 years in a row now.
edit: Tony Bennet, twice; The Moody Blues; The Tubes; Jorma Kaukonen; ZZTop.
Man, someone here saw Gary Stewart! What a phenomenal, uncompromising talent. I was really sad when he died. I'd just picked up his latest live CD.
Memorable shows that I missed for some stupid reason: Never saw The Who, Springsteen, Pink Floyd, some others.
I used to live a block from The Decade, a little club in Pittsburgh. That's where I saw scores of bands when they were first starting out; I saw The Pretenders there right when their first album hit. Anyhow, The Iron City Houserockers were the house band, and they'd toured with Bruce Springsteen. The Boss was in town and rumor was that he was going to stop in and visit. I was beat from a long day at work, checked in, left early. Bruce showed up around midnight and played for two hours. In a club about the size of a minimart.

I'm not sure Gary would have remembered that show. He was definitely "drinking double" that night, but it was a great show none the less. It was at Cowboy City on Jacksboro Highway outside Ft.Worth. A prototypical honkytonk about 1 notch above "dive" status. Excellent venue to see an old fashioned country act. We used to call it Cowgirl City, for good reason... plenty to pick from. It's a tractor dealership now.
A couple I forgot to mention:

-
The only live concert I've ever seen is the Bananna Splitz, and that's because I was one of the
Fa La La... La La La.La... child backup singers...along with my buddy, Nuke.
Up til now I've kept silent about Fleegle, Beegle and the rest, but I was there as these freaks sodomized Nuke over and over again.. It was worse than a weekend at Never Never Land with Michael Jackson and the JBs, but it wasn't as bad as living in Texas.

oh. i saw buckwheat zydeco too in kansas city.
currently go to see dred clampit play at the red bar every sunday afternoon. great times always. jabbo starks plays there nights. (old funk legend...used to play for james brown)
from modern drummer....
"But to say that Brown invented the funk sinzle-handedIv would make Jabo Starks and Clvde Stubblefield… well… break out in a cold sweat. As with most innovations, JB’s funk wasn’t cre ated in a vacuum. A thorough listen to the JB two-CD set Soul Pride: The Instrumentals 1960-1969 attests to this. Prior to the arrival of Starks and Stubblefield, witty drummers such as Melvin Parker, Nat Hendricks, and James Brown himself played slippery ruffs and irregular beats that resemble the funk we know. But with Jabo's appearance on "New Breed," the groove became more agitated and assured. The drummer's popping snare drum and fatter bass drum foot lent the music greater authority and drive than on previous tracks. On "Jabo," Starks' steely style is joyous, driving the band with glee."
concert all the time.

Yeah, I was a deathmetal head in my previous life. :p

OK here are some that I can remember. But I have forgotten more than I can remember. For some reason St.Louis was a meca for concerts in the 70's and for a few years that's all we did was go to live shows, sometimes 3-4 a week. There were about 4-5 venues operating at any one time. Kiel,Kiel opera house,American theatre,The Ambassador theatre(my fav.), The Arena, SIU-Edwardsville are just some of the bigger venues that I remember. KSHE Radio here had a lot to do with all the shows being here. A fun time and era for sure. I still have a lot of my ticket stubs around somewhere.
Mosca I agree Nektar was a good show! Top shows in my opinion were Genesis,Joe Walsh,Queen,Skynard, and Slade.
