Title: Login problems
Post by: rosco- on February 06, 2000, 08:22:00 PM
Couldnt get in yesterday or today till later this afternoon, flew for an hour or so and again this evening. Then the game crashes and I have to do the old 3 finger salute to exit out of it, and I cant get back in  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/mad.gif)  I get to the arena selection screen and then after a 20 or 30 second wait I get dumped back to the loggin screen. Same thing happened last week. Traceroute looks reasonable, no errors or lost packets although I am pinging hitechcreations, anyone have the server addy so I can try that?  Please help  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

Yep, connects were absolutely terrible this weekend.  12 discoes in 6 hours total flying time.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/mad.gif)

I hope this improves soon.

Not a problem at all for me all weekend.
Kind of rules out HTC as being the root cause.

Run a traceroute and see if you are routing thru a server called savis-gw.*.*.AlterNet about 2 hops before www.hitechcreations.com (http://www.hitechcreations.com)

I don't normally have problems myself, but every once in a while the above router goes south and does the same thing to me. And once it goes bad, it doesn't come back for some 10 minutes or so.

Check my thread on TraceRoutes in Tech support forum on this issue.

I was dumped 3 times today... all 3 times I logged in.

I also noticed that my mail isp wasn't working at the same time.  I was able to visit sites all over... but I couldn't get my mail from my ISP (a national ISP).  Somethings amist here... smells like router problems to me.

Are all of us that are having problems on the western half of the US or Canada?  AKDejaVu and I are both in Oregon.  Last night I was flying with a couple squadmates who were losing connects, they are from western Canada as well.

Could be more than a coincidence...

Actually I am central canada "Ottawa"

Vermillion:

Did a traceroute, last hop before the server is shown as Savis Communications, Net name savis7 in St Louis. I tried this morning to login just to see if I could, and it let me in. I used to have the same problem and by rebooting, dialing out again I was let in. Since formatting and upgradeing to Win 98 from 95 that trick doesnt work anymore. Next time it happens I will try logging in from my brothers computer, just to rule out my system being at fault.

What I did was keep a copy of UO Trace (free trace program) handy for such occaisons.

Then the other night when my connection to the UBB died, I was able to quickly do a trace and "catch it in the act".

Since it has been a transient problem, I had to trace right then (or in the 10 mins it usually lasted) to catch it. Otherwise the trace's showed clean.

Have you traced during the problem?

Yes I did during the problem. I use visual route for my traces and didnt see anything out of the normal. Thats what has me confused. Aslo this problem seems to persist for longer times than 10 mins for me, was from friday night till early in the afternoon sunday before I could get back in.

Things that make you go HMMMMMMMMM
