Is the Thompsons rate of fire really that high?

If you liked that one (soundtrack and wardrobe aside), you can find alot of others at the same web site. Some of the soundtracks are even worse!

Is it just me, or did the rate of fire from that Thompson seem
awfully high?

Early Thompsons were.  They were lowered from about 1500 rpm to something like 800-900, if I remember correctly.

     That's not an early Thompson though, it's the cheaper version
made later on without the cutts compensator and the cooling
rings of the 1920's version.

I always thought the StG-44 had a higher rate of fire?
