Just a quick question,
Wouldn't a "skillfully ditched" be considered the same as being down. I mean you have to get out of the plane to ditch, right. And then would that also mean that you could not reup and fly again?

egg- zactly

even if the guys in the D3A's where allowed to up fighter afterwards....lotta guys with 3 deaths....?
-
In this design, the d3a pilots were allowed two lives since the val explodes if you look at it wrong.
In some of the scenario designs, certain planes are sure death and to compensate for that, the designers allow a second life. In the European theatre, the ju87s are usually a 2 life mission. The first life is in the ju87 and the second is in plane of choice.
Also, ditches / crashes, etc on first take-off are allowed to re-up. This is to compensate for the carrier turning, crash to desk top after launching, the terrible hit to frame rates when 60 people launch from a base, etc.
I'm sure one of the official CMs will be along to clarify any misrepresentation that I may have made.

A ditch would mean your are down. So if you were in a Val or Kate according to what 68KO wrote up your had a 2nd life in your pocket.
dlf pretty much spelled it out. Did some take off 3 times?

Also, keep in mind that the fields remain open for the first 5-10 minutes of the frame to ensure that everyone gets airborn. I like to refer to this as the "Corsair Rule" for pilots who can not get an F4U off the deck of a CV on the first try :)

On our first lift off in the Vals (D3A) the carrier was starting a turn. I was second off the deck, and made it into the air. some of our pilots were not so lucky.

I suspect I'm one of the ones you guys are complaining about.
A Rolled Val at start, due to massive #'s of planes on deck was unable to see that carrier was turning. Crashed & burned.
B Reupped Val, was feet dry & almost in sight of A29 when shot down by a p40.
C joined sunking as a gunner, got a few rounds off, shortly after p40 got sunking. Down we went in flames again.
D Rolled as A6m flew a long way, eventually found a fight with twice as many F4fs and died.
You have to look at the details & the time of the deaths. You can't just look at the number of deaths.

Hey Ghosth!
They were pretty flames tho ;o)
I did notice at least one zero ditched then reupped a new one but don't really have an issue as long as most know the rules
