Does it seem odd that the pilot would have armor underneath his bellybutton given his mission?

Scrap, that's an AWESOME idea! :)
culero (hopes HTC is listening)

that would be a cool addition to the plane set.

"Does it seem odd that the pilot would have armor underneath his bellybutton given his mission?"
Good ol' japan thought processing.
Its a good thing they didnt know what napalm was, imagine all the planes loaded up with 50 gallons more napalm in place of fule storage areas, napalm wing fule tanks, napalm drop tanks...
That would have left more of a mark, for sure. as fires hard enough to put out, imagine a napalm FULED fire on the deck of a carrier....blub blub blub....
We should have napalm load outs,or at least make it so full drop tanks make a fire effect, think of it like a bomb that would "slide" along the ground, laying a fire trail from it like the aircraft now do.
:Code wise:,it would be a freefall bomb, but once it hit the ground it would "stick" then roll along the ground constantly exsplodeing every 0.5 seconds to simulate "burning" untill the internal timer runs out, then it would stop and reset "go away"
so the effect would be a bomb droping, then watching napalm run along the ground, then burn out. napalm would burn a bit longer, fule would probably just blow up,and spread out a weee bit.
ever shoot a 5 gallon metal gas tank with a .45? it blows up, REAL good..and burns for a while, cant imagine HIGHER grade plane fule, blowing up once DROPED from alt,and with speed..sheesh..
That way some planes could have pure napalm bombs, and other nations could "simulate" that same distructive power in the form of a drop tank bomb. "shrugs"
That way people couldnt/wouldnt whine because there plane/nation cant have that same distructive power.
It would have looked way lame with the old fire effects, but with a little more black smoke, the default plane flame we now have, would be great for a napalm effect. or a fule tank hiting the ground effect.

Heh, fugged up idea, but at the same time it's ingenious :aok

I still maintain the intentional suicide porker is in large part a figment of the imagination.
What your probably seeing is someone who was either unable to pull out or damaged/killed by ack at low alt or damaged to the point of the plane being unflyable.
Been here a few years now and I can probably count on 1 hand with a bunch of fingers left over the amount of times I've seen anything that would lead me to beleive someone was porking and augering intentionally.
The suicide dweeb is just another example of something if being said enough of times people start to beleive
-
Dred,
I believe the idea is that they don't intend to RTB. They usually keep making passes at the barracks and ord until they are either killed by ack or a defender. They will drop, extend just enough to turn around and return, even with a defender right on their 6. They ignore the defender and the ack, and bore in on the barracks, knowing full well they will die if they fly like that.
That's why it's a suicide porker. Not that they intentionally fly into the ground.

Much truth here, IMO.

Baka does mean "idiot" or "fool" in Japanese, but is wasn't the Japanese name for it, it was the US codename for it.
The Japanese name for it was "Ohka" which means Cherry Blossom. Cherry blossoms can have certain overtones in Japanese culture that made it somewhat appropriate.

Well that also sums up the attitude of the furballers with the exeption of the porking part.
Up fly around till you get killed by ack. another plane or crash into the ground and start all over again.
How many people up expecting to come back and be able to land?
Now how many manage to do that the majority of their flights?
I'd be willing to bet the overwhelming "majority" (to use my own dirty word) dont.
Unless your a horde warrior its pretty safe to say that most flights are suicidal to begin with..
Now if they hit and then ran they woiuld be pork and run dweebs "afraid to fight"
But since they stick around to fight. And thus risk getting killed by one of the afore mentioned ways they are suiciders.
Hell sometimes its fun to hit a base and watch 5 of the 6 planes up chase you around like the keystone cops just to see how long you can last before someone finally gets you LOL

Yea.. they stick around and "fight" buildings.
The "suicide" part of suicide porker isn't kamikazi'ing into the ground, it was described very aptly above.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think there is anything in the world wrong with bombing buildings, but I think it takes a real eunuch to pick battling buildings over other people.

I think Dred's point went SWOOOSH over your head. You call guys who "stick around and fight buildings" SUICIDE PORKERS.
I say a uber-fighter-jock-stone-killer guy who lands about 1/3 of the time (no matter that he has a 4-to-1 k/d) is a SUICIDE FURBALLER.
-
No, it didn't go over my head. We just view the game differently.
He thinks the game is about battling through a horde of enemies to kill their buildings... I think the game is about battling the horde of enemies.

Not really. They wanted him to live long enough to retain control and hit his target. The damned thing is useless if it does not hit its target.

Yes, they could be carried by Betty bombers. Then, when the bombers get shot down before they deliver their Bakas, we could ask the ageless question:
............................. ............................. ............................. .................
............................. ............................. ............................. ..................
............................. ............................. ............................. ..................
"Why did all the Betties die?"

Noooo they stick around and fight the planes that are in the area.
Least thats what I did.
But there are times when it is more desireable to destroy the buildings then to fight the planes to prevent the hording and capture of your own base.
Doesnt take any more or less skill then it does the hordewarriors to overwhelm a base with 5-1 odds
Or the Fuballers to cherrypick their way to stardom which is where most kills in furballs come anyway.
the trick in a furball isnt in getting kills. its in keeping from getting killed

Wrong again. I rarely pork bases anymore. and when I do hit bases Im usually only after the barracks and sometimes ammo.
You have no idea what I think the game is about.
But to enlighten you I think the game is about whatever the individual player wants it to be about.
For me its about whatever I feel like doing at any given time.
Sometimes its about base capture, sometimes its about furballing or finding that small scale fight where two small in numbers but relitively even sides duke it out in the air.(probably my favorite)
Sometimes its about base defence
Sometimes its about GVing.
Sometimes its about battling the hordewarriors and/or porking the bases that effect the hordewarriors.
Other times its hunting down and killing specific pilots
As a good friend of mine likes to put it
"My interests are very eclectic and subject to change without notice"
For me the game is "about" a great many things all depending on what I feel like doing at any given moment.
And I think thats what the game is about.
And one of the things that makes the game great is that you have so many choices of what you want to do it has something for just about anyone.

Dred & Et all.
No dissrepsect but simply: BS BS BS BS!!
It is ridiculous that a single ac can dissupt the operational status of a base the way it does. It is ridiculous that I can take a spit into a large field and use maybe 20 rounds of cannon and de-ack the entire field w/o a scratch. Then turn around and try that with a P51 and taking out half the ack at the same field results in several pings and a lot of wasted ammo.
Bases should be protected by auto artillery and much stronger acks. Troops should be more plentiful and better protected by more accurate ack's. Those same artillery firebases should be able to cover gv spawn points to reduce gv spawn camping.
All acks on a field should be manable. If an ack is not manned it is in auto mode. Same for the artillery I mentioned above.
Taking a field should be a serious affair requiring coordination from the ground and the air (sea where appropiate).
There should not be a set number of troops a town requires to take it. You can say if the town is completely dead it requires X. But if there is a single buidling up a couple of troops will run to that building and secure it. If enough troops are there the town can be captured.
Imagine being able to lose a field but not the town. Each town and field has a certain amount of resource points in it. If you drop enough troops on a field you can take it and not the town. The enemy could then move some of the resources from the town to try and take the field back. The same model applies to fields. It only has soo many points in what it can launch. Once those numbers are lost you can not up from that field until it regenerates more numbers. It's regeneration can be affected by supply.
Basically proposing this:
Everything is alloted resource points.
Differant things accrue points at differant values based on how many players are on.
For example a large field or town regenerates at a slower rate than a small one.
Everything continues to grow. That is to say a small field not losing resource points from attacks could eventually grow into a large field.
Resource points at a field are biased by the numbers logged on. Unit costs are based on something similar to ENY. So taking a 262 from a field costs more against it's resource points than a zeke.
Just my additional BSBSBSBS…
