I might have have got the last designation wrong.
But what are the differences between the 44 and 45? Just Year?
How did they compare against tanks like the Panther and the Tiger?
:D

From reading Otto Carrius's book, he mentioned the T-34/85 as being capable of knocking out a Tiger from close in. frontal, and at mid range in the sides.
He was unimpressed with it's armour though.

T34/85 has firepower similar to Panzer 4.
It has turret side armor comporable to Tiger 1.

So its a big 85mm round , but it has similiar ballistics to the 75mm on the PIV?

I'm not an expert, but I've done some reading on the T-34 since it was introduced.
The 85mm gun was a threat to the Tiger frontally at ~1000 yards, according to Russian sources.
The T-34/85 M43 had a 85L52 gun, the later ones had 85L55 guns.. armor penetration was pretty similar.
Depending on which ammo is modelled, the T-34/85 would get around 120 mm of penetration at 100m and a little less than 100mm at 1000m.
With tungsten rounds it'd get ~180mm at 100m.
The T-34/76 gets about 80mm at 100m, and 60mm at 1000m. That is with regular AP though, not Tungsten.

Ive got Two Panther tanks giving me serious trouble. One is hull down, so Ive pretty much got him outflanked, the other is killing my pixeltruppen left and right.
I'll let you know how it works out when I can.

The Soviets introduced a varient of the T34/85 armed with a different gun in 1945.
That is probably what your game is calling an m45.
great page if your interested.

Combat Mission.
By the way Nef.. I think the Panthers frontal armor is actually better than the Tigers. It wasn't as thick, but it was sloped much more effectively.

Thanks for the tip. I kinda figured that but wasnt quite sure.
I dont think that their very skilled along the lines of crew, But....
I'm really not supposed to talk about it until everyone is done with the particualr scenario, unfortunatley that could be a while.
But if it's any consolidation, I'm only one ridge away, and guess where those panthers are at
I'll post the AAR, when the time comes. Till Then, Wish me luck.

Panther hull front armor is much more effective than Tiger I armor, 80mm heavily sloped vs 100mm nearly vertical.
Panther's long 75mm gun is also quite a bit more powerful than Tiger I's 88mm.
Turret front armor is about the same at 100mm at the mantlet, but Panthers exposed turret front plate is only 80mm vertical.
Panther has quite a bit wearker side armor though. 50mm or 40mm sloped a bit depending on model vs 80mm vertical on Tiger I.

make that three panthers
