Title: VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP
Post by: kbisby on February 13, 2005, 08:27:23 PM
I have this card (VIA/S3G UniChrome IGP) in a new computer.  It runs fine before it finally locks up the computer and shuts it down.  Could use some feedback.  I'd rather use this card than replace it.

IIRC, Aces High has issues with the S3 GPU's?  I'm not sure if that still applies since they made the upgrades to include the older cards and alot of the Intel integrated graphics chips.  I'm guessing it will work if you can find updated drivers for it, but whether it does or not you will eventually want to look into buying a decent video card.  The integrated graphics controllers are very often buggy when it comes to games (for alot of reasons).  I have even started seeing box games that specifically state in the requirements "only supports Geforce and Radeon series cards."

Anyway, see if you can find updated drivers on the net.  Unless the S3 still is incompatible with AH, then I'm afraid the point is moot and you wont have a choice.

Good luck!

Sorry to disappoint you, but when it says IGP that means your graphic chip is on the motherboard and its not a seperate card.

My guess is that with aces high your graphics chip overheats.. try to open the case and point a big fan inside and see if it runs longer.
If for any reason that is not an option maybe you can move the comp so it gets better ventilation if its in a cramped place right now or try in a cooler room... i dont know what room temprature you live with but you can drop it a bit by less heating see if that helps. Everything above freezing is ok for the comp as long as its dry and not condensing.

Be carefull with opening the case... if your unsure dont do it, breaking your comp isnt worth it for playing the game and you can break it if your not carefull.
