Title: Your Welcome Texans!
Post by: Gunslinger on February 14, 2005, 03:35:39 PM
It is obvious that since my arrival here in the great Republic of Texas that it is I that brought good weather for all Texans alike to share and enjoy (editors note:  I do not take blame for bad weather we can just blame Oklahoma for that.)

Yes I have enjoyed my week in Texas so far and have one more to go.  It's been nice just chilling out and reading a few books.  I don't care much for Witchita Falls itself but that's the price one pays to get out of Kalifornia!

Have a good week gents I'm off to get some smoke house BBQ!  :)

Hey Guns, there's a really good catfish place just south of Wichita Falls on 287 near Jolly. I forget the name, but any of the locals should be able to tell you the name and how to get there. One of the few good things about Wichita. Have you got Kemp and Kell mixed up yet? :)

Wichita Falls? Obviously jebus is punishing you. Maybe if you're real lucky you can take a weekend and head up to Lawton to really live it up. :lol

Oh yeah, Guns. Do yourself a huge favor and buy some Earl Campbell's Hot Links while you are in Texas. Any major grocery store will carry them. Imagine the best sausage you've ever had in your life and multiply that by a flavor factor of ten.

His sausage is OK, but the honey mustard sauce is MUCH better.

Christ!!! Me and some biker mates had andouilette in Alencon in France.

Bloody disgusting. Bits of gristle and fat in not very finely chopped pieces in what appeared to be an old condom! One of the group found that his had still got hair in it off the pig! One other let out the immortal line " Christ my sausage has got a tumor" a very funny night out on the way back from Le Mans Moto GP but andouilette? no way hose!

:D

Coopers in llano texas is the best BB'Q in texas. It has been in the Texas Monthly top 10 for a long time. You need to come down to Austin if you have a chance best city in Texas. Also if you Hunt and have some $ Cutolla is the place to be. If you fish their are many area lakes but if you salt water fish Port A is a great town for a weekend trip. Also if your from cali it takes 10 years before you can call yourself Texan. The last time i took a trip out side the usa people ask me "so your a American" my reply "I am a Texan" lol

When I was working on the Mississippi River, I had people from as close as the panhandle of Florida who wouldn't touch a crawfish. "They look like spiders!!"

I used to suck on the heads, but now I have to watch the bp - aint old great..

(and for anyone wondering what this has to do with sausage, you alway throw in some sausage, garlic, weenies and onions with the crawfish).

and potatoes of course..

I'll second that! There are numerous "Cooper's Pit BBQ" joints around the state but they are NOT affiliated with the one and only in Llano, simply the best. The only joint that comes close is Kreutz' in Lockhart, definitely second in my book but close.

Austin is a cool place to live alright, moved here from Houston in 1982. Then fled to Round Rock for political reasons :D

Their are two good places in the Seattle-Tacoma area to eat. One is Cave Man BBQ in Kent and the other is From the Bayou in Tacoma. Both are on my top 5 places to eat in the area. Cave Man has Dragon Wheels which is a pork stew without the gravy. From the Bayou has a crawfish dip that is out of this world.

Dam! Lunch is still 3-4 hours away.

:D

I could see that and roundrock is Austin just like westlake but a little more of a drive. Also you need to go to Mueler on 29th street east of I 35. Thats the best BB'Q in Austin city limits they are so good that they run out of meat sometimes. Coopers has become $ I went their for opening day of bow season and could find a parking spot. I could only guess what gun season opening weekend is like.

Yup, it's gone and become trendy of something. I hunt about 20 minutes away on family property halfway between there and fredrickburg. We went there in the middle of the afternoon in non-hunting season and the line was around the building!

Damn yuppies were everywhere, BMWs and Harleys...weird combination coming from the same type of folks (middle aged accountants and lawyers).

Harley's make me sick i do most of my traveling in the hill country and our place in fredickburg has a major harley problem. One day i was sitting out side between hunts and counted 52 harleys and only 4 trucks that passed the ranch house. I live on lake Austin and have never had a problem with boats our jetski pasting 50 feet from my door. Their is just something about hunting and noise that i dislike. Are you going to go turkey hunting this spring we need to meet up at coopers one day.

Well have to say that I had a decent time in Texas.  We hit up a few BBQ/Catfish places and I got me some good sauce from a market there.

I wouldnt mind movin back to Texas just not Witchita Falls....the place is rather ugly as far as Texas towns go.  The ride home was eventfull.

I've had a few near misses while driving on the highyway but this almost scared me the most.  An 18 wheeler blew out a drivers side rear tire about 15 ft in front of us.  We just barely missed the major chunk of it hitting our "borrowed" car.

When I say the thing blew I mean it BLEW.  It was loud as hell and woke me and my buddy up for the next 150 miles.

One thing I can say about my trip....the night life in Albaqurqe (sp) was definatly worth the next morning's late start.  My buddy almost hooked up but her friend was a totaly Biatch and I didnt have it in me to play interference.

So....what'd I miss?  :aok
