Good grief, i think we can all come together in parting are cheeks in the general direction of this one. After $250.000.000.000.00. And 1300 dead US fighting men and women, the freakin Iranians wont eh gard damm election in Iraq!! WTF! I thought the fix was in! OMFG, what a collossal screw up!!:eek:

Personally I think who won is less relevant then the fact they had elections to begin with.
Was a bunch of years before they had elections in Germany wasnt it?
It may not be perfect but few things are.

i think it was about 13 years before germany had a elected govt, because first the allies had to fight the hard core nazi "insurgents"and rebuild the infastructer.

How many american soldiers were killed after the surrender of Germany John?
Not in occupied germany befor the surrender of the country but after the country was surrendered?
How many mayors were killed?
How many police stations were blown up?

John as much as I would like to agree with you. I havent been able to find a single credible source to support your claim.
To answer Pongos questions
The most common number I have been able to find is 0.
It would seem the Germans or what was left of them after nearly 10 years of war. were weary of it and had had enough. And when Germany officially surrendered so did its people.
Not that I can blame them.
Guess there is something to be said for Shermans doctrine of making war on not only its army but its people.

I had an Uncle Mike who was killed by a sniper in 1945, right at the end of the War. Not sure if it was after the official surrender but I think it may have been.
One difference between Germany and Iraq is that the violence in Iraq is being spawned by religious fanatics, not hangers-on still loyal to a dead dictator. I suspect that religious fanaticism will prove to be more intractable than political fanaticism, but it remains to be seen.

A book written by Perry Biddiscombe titled "The last Nazis" Refers to the resistance movement by remaning nazis in post ww2 germany. Most of their resistance was unsuccessfull but they did use gorrilla warfare against occupied troops.
Another thing to remember is that the russians were controlling alot of the country in the years after the war. This control consisted of lots of suppression and I am sure that any would be Nazi fighters were dealt with swiftly.
There was a different movtive in this war, it was not based on a religious movement like what we see in the middle east today. Because of this it was easier to repel any attempts and attacks.
Back to the orignal topic of this thread, one thing I have found amazing at this point is that the parties that lost the election have not protested it. They seem to accept the outcome of this free election and in most cases are celebrating the success.
The issue in Iraq is far from over but it seems to be moving in the right direction and that is something everyone should be able to look at as a great accomplisment.
