i've been flying the Mossie most of the time this month - with the max loadout on guns and ord - and i gotta ask:
is it just me, or are the Mossie guns slooooooow?
i wish i had a dollar for every a/c that has slipped through my line of fire w/out much of a scratch. :lol :(
-
Slow...no...but it is upsetting when you hit with the 303's thinking they are 50cal and its nothing more then a prolonged death by a 1000 papercuts. Unless you remember to hit the secondary fire and actually use the 20mm...
Done it too many times.

Mossie guns are great!:) I think wolfala may be correct, you sure you are using the 20mm and not the .303s?
-
O, I'm sure. :) I always fire with both guns and consider myself bingo ammo when I'm out of cannons. Like Wolfala said, those MG's are USELESS.
I just thought, perhaps, that the rate of fire on the cannons were a little slow.
-
I've killed a 110 and an La-7 with the .303s after I was out of 20mm, but that's all.
You may be missing as the Mossie produces a narrow, but intense, stream of fire unlike wing mounted guns that spray it out in almost a fan. I have killed to many aircraft in extremely brief crossing shots to see the Mossie's guns as slow. Frankly, it is my experience that it'll get kills in crossing shots that most fighters would only get a few hits in.
One thing though, I only fire the 20mm.

I killed a hog last night with a Single UBS. I was just trying to get him off a countryman, and while I was RTB I got the kill message on him. I guess he augered lol.

.303's are EXTREMELY effective agains wings, they'll sieve the fuselage shots all night. Mossie is one of the most UNDERRATED fighters in the MA.

No, it is rated just about right.
Slow, can't manuever out of its own way, best guns package in the game.
Course, the Tiffie has the same gun package spread out a little more, so it is easier to hit with, and it is much much faster.

Your opinion that the Mossie has a better gun package than the 110?
I never fly it much but do know that anytime I get near one the guns seem to rip me apart as they pass by. I think lots of that has to do with the caliber of pilots that fly them and not as much the aircraft itself.

Slow?!? I've been able to outrun everything except an Lgay-7 so far (got lucky a couple times). I consider the Mossie to be pretty damn fast.
Yea, it's not the most maneuverable of "fighters." lol. Got into a knife fight with an Lgay-7 that I couldn't ourtrun. Actually was close to getting around on his six when I found myself in a dead flat spin. Couldn't get out of it. I floated down like a feather. :lol
Still having issues with the guns. What convergence are you guys using? I'm set at about 450 feet.

Interesting.
I personally find it much easier to aim nose mounted guns then wing mounted. But then again Ive not flown nose mounted in quite some time.
Need to compare that again now that my aim is a bit better then before.

Convergence is infinity - just like any centerline fire aircraft. U just worry about gravity and the firehose will do the rest.

cc. will try that again. thanks, Wolfala.

I love the mossie:) It's been my main ride for quite some time.
The mossie can initially outrun the la7 in a dive, however unless you want to shed control surfaces you'll ease off the throttle, then the la7 will quickly catch you. In level flight most planes will outrun the mossie with ease, the mossie is just a tad faster than the spits and n1ks so i would label the mossie as slow.
I would rate the guns above the 110 too, it can kill at distances and at angles the 110 doesn't stand a chance at. I've never really used the .303s so i can't say about their effectiveness. But with 4 hispanos i don't see the need of them. The mossie only needs the briefest of opportunities to get a kill, kills most other planes would find impossible.
-
Hmm. If you're a crack shot like thrila, all you have to do is reach out and touch someone in the mossie and they'll go down.
If you're gunnery sux like mine, you'll see fewer hits because of the concentrated cone of fire (see above). No room for error. You can still slice off wings though, very satisfying.
I haven't been using the .303s as I'm trying to improve gunnery with the 20mms - trying to be sure that the hit sprites I'm seeing are from the Hispanos. One I am l33t and uber, I'll use the .303s again - the more the merrier.

303s are NOT useless...ive got around 20 kills this tour with them.

got 8 kills in that the other day....great stuff.
ok ok only 5 real kills but i still earnt 55 perks for dying lol.... 110 perks if i had landed it :(
-
Are you sure you are missing behind the aircraft and not in front of it? I know that when I switch to planes with nose mounted guns, for some reason I always start out leading too far. Maybe if you are used to firing with 50 cals you aren't leading enough, I know that the 50 to hispano transition messes me up a bit as well..

The multiplier for landing is 1.25, not 2. If you got 55 perks for dying, you'd have gotten 68.75 for landing successfully.

the multiplier for dying is .5

There is no multiplier for dying. You're thinking of rank points, he was talking about perk points.
Sorry, you lose.
-
i believe it also effects perks.
i have gotten 2 kills in a 205 of seafires, died, upped again 2 more kills, landed and got more than .125 times perks....
the death gave me something like 1.9 perks the land (same planes minutes later) gave me like 7 perks.
i'll have to do a test on this in the MA in the next night or 2
-
The perk multiplier was ~1.6 ish when he landed that sortie Karnak.
-
JB73,
No, it does not. If you'd like to test it that could be arranged.
Octavius,
That multiplier affects all perks gained, regardless of whether or not he dies or lands.
The perk multiplier for landing is 1.25. In all other cases, ditched, killed or captured, you get the exact ammout of perks you earned.
-
my understanding is when you die you only get 0.5 the points/perks
when you ditch you only get something like 0.75
and when you land you get 1
but then i could be totaly wrong :)

I have flown the Mosquito as my main ride once. That tour I managed to go 55/2 with it and 63/3 in various Spitfires, 24/3 with the Tiffie.... Hispanos are awesome. Point and click death rays. LOLOL, that was a 664/30 tour! It must have been someone else impersonating me.....
My only complaint about the Mossie is that rediculous flat, non-rotating stall it does.... A flight model flaw for sure.
My regards,

What's your problem T-Bolt? Ever since some of us left the =Ghosts=, you have been anything but civil with those people.

oh sweet. <<>>
:lol
You're talking to ME about civility?
FYI - you showoff - I've been more than courteous to everyone that has left the Ghosts. I challenge you to present one written post or sound byte that shows otherwise. You, on the other hand, have always bothered me - especially when you jump in on someone's 1-on-1 in the DA or whine on the range channel in the MA or ***** at a fellow squaddy (a respectful teenager, I might add) for stealing that kill that would have finally put your precious K/D at 1 billion to 1...as if anyone gives a damn.

Hold the wire TBolt, you seem to be somewhat confused.
It's easy to deny the behavior on the =Ghost= message board when it's been deleted..... And that behavior came from just two =Ghosts=, you and Roscoroo. I didn't understand it then, and I don't understand it now. There was no animosity on my behalf when I left, it was just time for a change. In fact, it was overdue. I prefer a different style of gameplay.
I do recall your snotty attitude when several of us left. You know why we left, we all had differing reasons. As to showing one other example, well just look at your comments here. It was sufficiently obnoxious that HiTech had to edit it.
Besides, what you appear to be saying is that it's okay to steal a kill from me and I shouldn't have complained, but it isn't okay if I evaporate the guy you're jousting with, who is not even damaged.
I don't get it, our new squad and the =Ghosts= are not only polite to each other, we frequently fly and work together should we find ourselves in the same area.
Maybe you don't care for my over-aggressive style. Maybe you don't care for the fact that I'll speak my mind and not candy coat my opinion. I'm sorry that offends you, but get used to it, it's not going to change.
Your original post asked if the Mossie's gun were slow. No, they're not slow. In fact, this is probably the deadliest gun set in the game, but only if you actually hit what you are aiming at. Like the P-38, it's all or nothing, you either miss or you vaporize the target. Practice with the Mossie, you can't rely on the scatter effect you get with wing mounted guns. You need to be more precise. It's not unusual for people who rarely fly planes with nose mounted guns to need some time to adjust to the concentrated bullet stream, and the view forward in the Mossie isn't very good either.
Here's a trick some guys use effectively. In the forward view from the cockpit, zoom in using the Z and [ ] keys. Place the mouse cursor dead center on the gunsight pipper. Raise you seating position up higher for a better view, about midway between the glass framing. The cursor will go up with your head position. Now hit F10. That cursor is your new gunsight. Just don't move the mouse again. Yeah, it's a bit gamey, but it works.
Drop by the TA on Saturday evening. I'll be happy to provide a target so that you can get the feel for those guns in an environment where you can ignore everything else.
My regards,

And it's easy to accuse me of wrong doing without having the burden of proving yourself. I've never criticized anyone who has left...even Hammer, who disbanded the squad and ran away in a huff without warning. I respect his decision to leave (everyone's decision to leave); no hard feelings have ever been harbored by me.
I've flown along side some of the Sky Pirates since their departure. To accuse me of being uncivil towards them - or anyone - is nothing more than an empty accusation.
I do recall your snotty attitude when several of us left.
I won't bother to bring my post into this board, but if you interpret my comments as snotty, it's probably because you yourself are used to seeing things from that point-of-view. I wonder why? lol

You need new reading glasses, sir.
Besides, what you appear to be saying is that it's okay to steal a kill from me and I shouldn't have complained,
It's not right for a kill to be *INTENTIONALLY* stolen. However, it is even more unjust for an older member of the community, like yourself, to yell at a respectable, young member of the community for a simple mistake.
but it isn't okay if I evaporate the guy you're jousting with, who is not even damaged.
You must have confused my instance with someone else's. I was finishing a duel with a squaddy, & you had the nerve to drop in with a high fighter and shoot me down. "Just droppin' in to give you a little kiss..." was your explanation.
 Care to apologize? It's never too late.
I've heard of that gamey tip before. And, thanks for the invite. But, I'll respectfully decline.

I see you have forgotten the comments posted when Hammer attempted to explain his decision on the =Ghosts= BBS....
But that doesn't matter any longer, does it.
I like how you make it sound like just two guys were dueling and I dropped in a smacked you. Nice try at adjusting the facts....
THE WHOLE SQUAD WAS FURBALLING! Everyone was shooting at everyone else. I'd pop someone and they'd be back in a few minutes with altitude. Then I would have to evade their attack. Everyone was getting bounced. I guess I didn't realize that you thought you should have been exempted.... Damn TBolt, did I hurt your delicate feelings? Next time, watch your six....
"The nerve of that guy to shoot me down when I wasn't paying attention!" LOLOLOLOL

Apparently, you've forgotten the fact that my opponent and I were the last 2 remaining pilots left in Round 1. Therefore, the fight was only between the two of us. The rest of you - yourself included - had launched for Round 2, a separate match, in a different aircraft.
You'll win no points, Wide. And, I'm ready to just mute you on the AHBB just like I do in the MA.
Good day.

I don't recall it that way. I do recall you whining often, but what else is news? You've been whining here for three days.
If you felt so hurt, you had a remedy. Why didn't you ask for a match to redeem your wounded manhood? Hey, you still have a remedy! Go for it!
