I don't fly in the MA much these days, thanks to work, school and family. But I've made a bit of an effort to get in there a bit more this month.
With all the posts on how horrible the MA is, I haven't really be noticing it much. I think it's because I haven't been around the past many months.
But over the past few weeks I've poked my head in, and things seem fairly the same as they've ever been. Some folks attempt to HO, some don't. Blah Blah Blah.
So anyhow, I up from a rear base, and head to the front in a Yak-9T. I grab to about 11k, then enter a gentle dive to build up some steam. As I approach, I see a FW-190 making a high speed pass, so I figure I'll see if he figures he's too fast to be caught, and I line up on him. As he breaks out of the furball and goes nose up, I'm right on his 6, firing a couple of 3 round bursts.
The 190 figures out that he's not going to rope me, or escape, so he puts in a slow spiral, and tries to force the overshoot. I'm way to slow to make any escape (and we're still going up!) So I try to take him out as I pass by. No dice, he gets his overshoot. But now we're going a bit too slow for him to get a firing solution. So we both stall and start to drop. As I recover, he's still right on my bellybutton and starts blasing away.
I dive out in a zero G dive to get what speed I can, come out at tree top level, and enter a barrell roll with some on and off rudder. Now it was my turn to get the overshoot. But he wasn't dicking around, he blew by and tried to get some distance... I thought, heh he is a runner after all! and started to give chase. Then I noticed that we were going up top again... I just need another second.... oh ****, I just got roped. **** it. I'm dead.
As it turns out, he was stalling out just above me, and again was unable to bring his guns down. Once again he used his greater speed and acceleration and tried to rinse and repeat (while engaging another plane this time... rather agressive :p ). This time though, I took a shot at about D350 and nailed him with the Hammergun.
It was aka, flying an A-8. It was a lot of fun.
I was down to 1/2 ammo, but was looking to call it a night so I started to head back to base. I got what speed I could, and egressed. Checked 6. Clear. Tuned 200 to raise aka. Made fun of Morpheous, and all was well. Then all of a sudden Bullz gave me a 30mm ennema in a 262 lol. Never saw him coming. That's what I get for becoming content.
Anyhow, I don't think I've had any "bad" fights this month, and looking at my stats, I've encountered a surprisingly diverse assortment of Aircraft.

I lost but it was good. no HO. no running just to run
I wnated to practice jabo so I upped a P38 and went to 119. I figured I could practice and take out the radar, then beat up the town.
SO I dropped on 119 I missed my approach so I adjusted to hit an ordy bunker. missed and hit fuel. Then I extended went and rocketed radar and then turned to the town. Some Hurricane was trying to chase me but I completed my mission and drug him out over the water. I turned on him. I am new to the P38 so get turned under me and ran for base.
I saw a 190 He came at me and I went vertical came down on his 6 and the chase was on. I was not actuall gaining but figured what the heck. I pinged him from 800 he turned and went towrds the base. I was about 1 k off him chasing him. So I am totally fixated and decide better look around. no planes keep chasing. he leads me around. all of sudden he is diving. and jinking I follow thewn BAM from behind. down I go.
good job to Solarmax for roping me in and to hoop47 for getting me. Both gave salutes and were gentlemen about the affair.
I can take getting shot down when I screw up and really can be happy ( well not happy) when the guys you fight are gentlemen after they shoot you down.
Not a great story but I thought I would share. group hug:)

Absolutely. I love watching good teamwork even when I'm the victim. I went after a pair of F4U's one night. Merge was perfect, and I was running options through my head as I pulled up vertical (in a Ki-61). My options narrowed down real quick as I saw one of them going up, the other going down in a perfect mirror of each other. By the time I was at the top of my loop and about to merge with the higher Hog, I noticed it was a C-Hog and I was very slow. I went into a roll to throw his aim off in case he tried for the HO (excuse me, angles shot), and figured I would have to dive for speed and try to get some separation quick. While this guy was occupying my attention with his fake HO lineup, my maneuvering gave the guy below us enough time to come back up and BLAMMO! I was little pieces of drifting debris. I watched the film over and over, their execution was perfect. Great stuff.

I think it's just the ebb and flow of the arena. Early in the evening I was flying and everything seemed to go right. I landed some kills, found some good furballs etc. Even when I was sure I was dead, somehow I got out, even if a lot of pieces of my plane were missing.
Logged off, spent time with the wife and kiddies, everyone went to bed, house got quiet, up I came again.
No matter what I did I got hammered. There always seemed to be three guys on me. Even the one time I had alt and was trying to bounce a guy, he clearly was better then I was and I ended up a mass of wreckage.
Figured that was my sign to call it a night knowing things could only get better next time :)

You've hit it on the head, this is exactly what happens to me (and probably most of us) on some nights. Last night ended up being ok, but same thing was happening. 1st flight -- 2 kills, nailed by puffy ack. 2nd flight -- 0 kills tried to clear a teammate's 6 and got picked by a lightspeed la7. 3rd flight -- fired rockets from my mossie at what I thought was an auto ack, turns out it was manned and he hit me just before my rockets hit him. 4th flight -- best one of the night, 5 kills in a seafire, but the last one was an f4u who I was so close to I could spit on. I laid a string of tracers down his left wing only for him to roll and clip my wing. managed to land with 1 1/4 wings with a lot of trim, but I deserved to bite it on that one as well =P Felt that was a good time to log LOL

Howi we talked about this same subject via PM one night, albeit briefly. Last night when I logged off I was 24-2 in fighters, tonight I cant seem to get a kill without being jumped by 5 or 6 planes :)

Kinda reminds me of Golf..
Some days your "On" somedays your not,
Some sorties (holes) u do great,,next one ya flop
Some days you show up fired up and confident, and ya end up playin terrible
other days ya have to be talked into playing and your not really motivated, and ya have an awesome day

Yup elfie... last night 2 assists and 2 deaths in fighters. Got 2 assists after sending huge bursts into their planes, only to get smacked by a 5" gunner chasing my first kill. Then, I went into a furball, not sure what I was thinking, dove to clear someone's tail, and pulled up a little too hard, blacked out and hit a mountain.
Then I logged :(
The slump has begun!!!! :aok

I have the same thing happen to me. Some days it seems like Im an invisible Xwing. Nobody is seeing me, Im landing hits and scoring lots of kills. Other days it seems like Ive got abig target painted on my canopy and trailing a sign that says "Shoot me". Cant hit anything much less kill it, and every time I turn around Ive got a red swarm behind me fighting over the gooey scraps.
I was wondering if it is a connect issue or maybe something with my hardware. I dont think it is my flying because Im pretty crappy ALL the time.

Try flying a P40 into a crowded area. Every oportunistic dweebs goes for you because they think you are an "easy" kill. I've never understood this, the dweebs should go for the best planes first or the biggest threats to hold the advantage in the situation. Instead they find the easiest meat they can, cherry pick it and run home like the bleeding wusses they are.
I'm pretty sure this kind of thing is actually "taught" to squadmates and noObs by the score whoring l337's.

There's actually a pretty simple (and logical) rationale for going for the P-40 first. Any plane in the air poses a threat, from the best plane to the poorest. The more planes in the air, the greater the SA load, the more likely that someone gets "lucky," one more plane to dodge, etc. By removing one threat, no matter how minor, the whole situation becomes a little bit easier.
So typically you'll see folks go for the best or the worst planes first.

Good point Todd,, but I don't think most people rationalize it that way. I wouldn't mind getting ganged as much if that was how people operated. Most just think easy kill when they see an early war bird and go for it, then get the hell outta Dodge when they get a couple quick cherry picks.

I usually pick my targets by relative E state. A living P-40 is usually going to have a high E-state, and become a target. I also tend to presume that EVERY P-40 I see is an Ace.
