I use Exact Audio Copy (EAC) in secure mode for all my CD Ripping. I then use LAME to do all the encoding. Use these instructions (http://www.chrismyden.com/nuke/modules.php?op=modload&name=Elite_DAE&file=painless) or mirror (http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/mydeneaclame.cfm) for near-CD quality MP3s. (Chris Myden's site seems to be having problems at the moment.) I can't tell the difference between the MP3's created this way and the original CDs. The key is the "secure mode" in EAC. It's slower, but you do not get any pops/hisses/noise in the final product.
