Thats right... how do you play with your joystick?
Personally, i have my joystick in the middle of my lap, i have seen in pictures here that a lot of people have it to the right of their desks.
-
Mine leans to the right.....
:D
-
unfortunately mine is fully detatched from my body. i now have it sitting .......to the right of my desk.

just off-center to the right on the desk. and my desk is alot higher than most peoples, so my stick is up higher hehehehehe
i am serious about the desk though, throttle is to the left, mic comming out in the middle, and a bottle of beer next to the mic
-
My stick is to the right of the desk at a comfortable angle. Throttle is to the left.
-
On the desk center. Mic on my headphones.
No bottle of beer though that is taken up by the glass of Jim Beam or Cruzan Diamond Estate Rum. Both of which are served on the rocks:D

Years ago I used to hold the base in my lap with one hand and fly with the other, using the hand that held the base to operate the base mounted controls.
A while back, I took to leaving the stick on the desk, to the left of the keyboard, I still use my off hand to operate the base mounted controls. I have MOST flight keys mapped to the stick, along with the text radio keys.
I found that leaving the base on the desk resulted in more consistent and reliable control inputs.
I'm using the latest of the Saitek Cyborg series, the EVO Force. It has a bunch of buttons, and it fits my left hand well. I use a headset to avoid having the rest of the house being bothered.

To the right of and braced against the keyboard.
-
wow, lots of offset sticks here... ;-) Mine is centered and placed on the keyboard tray of my PC desk.

Mine is just a little off center and tied down with a piece of rope to keep it from flopping around.....kinda like them videos you see of the south american indians tribes living deep in the jungle.

Removed the arms from my chair. Removed the pad from the right arm rest support. Mounted a board about the 6" x 18" on the arm rest support , screwed spacer boards under the chair and mounted the arm rest support to them (to lower the height), velcroed my CH fighter stick to the front of the board. It sits to the right slightly above the height of my right leg. Mounted a powered USB hug to the underside of the board.
Fabricated an L shaped platform out of 1x6 boards and mounted it the left side of the chair and velcroed my CH Pro throttle to that.
Peddals at my feet, keyboard is on an adjustable tray in front of my left hand.
When I finished this my wife shook her head and muttered something about me being obsessed and left the room.
-
I use wooden cutting board, sitting on lap,CH Pro throttle on left,CH Fighterstick on right.CH rudders under desk.Wife never did figger out where cutting board went.I couldn't fly offset, like most seem to.Doing it this way since using just single joystick playing Confirmed Kill.

On my lap, sitting on a flat book/board/whatever I can find.

Yeah, we knew ya couldn't be serious about yer stick being up higher than anyone elses.;)
-
Mine is to the right but sometimes I use my left hand just cause it feels different ! :rofl
-
Since I got pedals, I put my stick offset to the right on the pullout keyboard tray. My throttle sits next to my chair on part of a cheap o plastic shelf unit, with the foam block the throttle came in directly under it. Before the pedals, I used to have my stock on my lap on the foam it came in.
-
i use a condom on my fighterSTICK, because my wife play sometimes with dirty hands
-
sitting on my right knee...spit cup on left of monitor..bevrage on right. One hand flys the other works keyboard. I cant type for squat but i can hit every command key with my left hand without looking.
-
Think about it ... natural position for hands is at sides or straight out in front, but always at the sides, not center of body.
Joystick in center is not the most natural position (smirks aside). When used to have big joysticks (more smirks), needed to be in center to have enough room for complete movement.
F-16 has one of the most advanced cockpits, designed for 9gs, and its controls are on the sides for least stress, joystick on the right side. So I recall, anyway, long time since I've seen one.

I mounted 6x24x3/4" extensions one to each side of my keyboard slide out tray. They each extrude about 14" past the end of the tray towards my waist at the proper width for my hands to naturally grasp the throttel and joystick of my X45. The keyboard sits forward and in the middel of them for easy reach. My 20" monitor is at a relaxed viewing highth forward of my keyboard tray. Kind of like the remote pilot setup for the Raptors. My TrackIR camera is mounted on an arm extending towards my head from the top of my monitor to locate it about 14-20" form my track hat.
By the way if anyone is having ergonomic issues using the rudder paddel on the X45 throttel try this. Get 2 self sticking rubber pads or feet about 1/2x1/2x1/2". Stick one to each end of the paddel. It will allow you to touch them easier and require less finger motion to swing your rudder through it's complete range of motion. Saitek is confused and thinks our middel fingers should be about 8" long.:)
-
eeeeurgh!!
rudder done with fingers sounds all wrong.
i hate this twisty stick aswell, i'm saving pennies for a CH setup or at least some pedals.
-
Tried pedals, got rid of them; love Logitech extreme 3dpro twisty stick. But ... many others seem to prefer pedals. Need to ask then whether heel/toe or sliding pedals.
Pedals seem to me sorta like automobile dimmer switches on the floor. Control evolution seems to be toward meshing the most controls in one hand, or maybe two.
-
X45 to right, keyboard center, throttle L, and FINGER DRIVEN RUDDER (rocker switch) on throttle.
Take that, mechanic.:lol (Course, my flight generally stinks and my video card's down this month...so I'm not sure the jibe is worth anything)
(random thought -- anybody using the word "s*ck" in a thread with this title should be banned forthwith.;)
-
I have the Complete Book of WWII Combat Aircraft lying on my lap with my X45 stick on top of it (thats how i get all those tidbits about aircraft so fast on channel 200 hehehe). I have a small stand to the right of my chair that the X45 throttle sits on.
Oh, and for Christmas, my GF bought me a Massage computer desk chair :D
-
So when you catch a spray of .303s you turn on the chair vibrator? Very cool.
I get a lot of vibes from 5.1 surround sound on a wooden floor.
-
Right side, like an F-16...
-
anyone putting an extension on their joystick so they can put it on floor boards like a real one is? I have seen pictures but havent tried it yet, seems like it would make your flying smoother, since we all fly like we have our hand on the floor where joystick is mounted, so its alot more jumpy.
-
nooooooooo:rofl :rofl :rofl
can't read these posts after midnight:rofl :rofl
Ihaven't laughed this hard in a long time:rofl :rofl :rofl

Is this apropriate to discuss?
I use the seat I used for my drums and I put my stick there between mylegs and my stick sits on top of the chair,I taped the metal plate of my old Suncom F-15 to make the sitck heavier, so it wouldn't move much(it worked) on top of that ,rudders are in front of the seat, and my office chair sits close to it, and my throttle is on the tower case, which is very high.
-
Velcro'd to the center of my underdesk keyboard tray, flanked by kb and mouse. Throttle is Velcro'd to a seat level extention I fastened to the left side of the chair...very comfy.
-
Dead center between my legs.
If I do it right leg pressure holds it in place just fine other than the occaisional tweak.
MS sidewinder prec 2. Thats partly why I'm not big on mapping buttons to stick.
Except for the 4 on the handle and the hat. The rest are hard to get to under my leg.
-
X-45 throttle off-set to the right of monitor, throttle off-set to left.
keyboard left of throttle. Only prob is, when things get hot, I tend to
work my joystick and throttle hard. X-45 has a huge base, but it doesnt seem to be heavy enough and I find them tipping or moving in heavy play. The rudder control is virtually useless.. too hard to reach and way too sensitive-> small input gives huge response. Gonna have to invest in CH peddles.
-
CH Combatstick to the right of my keyboard, CH Pro Throttle to the left of my keyboard, and CH Pro Pedals on the floor inbetween.

first there is a screw on the bottom of the throttle to loosen it up, then "yanking" takes alot less force and doesn't move the throttle base.
also, some who have the x45 with smaller hands might appreciate this.... try inverting the throttle axis in AH. then when it is in the position closest to you (higher up) is the full throttle. it gives easier access to the rudder rocker, and i found i could have more control when i did use that rocker.

Lots of right handers:lol I have a x45 my stick is on the right and throttle on the left but they are both sitting on top of my desk so it is at a very uncomfortable angle when flying to long. I also have my throttle inverted so that I can use rudders better.
-
Mines to the right. JB73 i could look at that pic all day :) Makes me laugh and horny all day long!
-
Well am actually a lefty :D I fly with my right hand !
No I'm not Ambidextrous .
