Title: weathering on a OD and Gray P38 images
Post by: Guppy35 on February 16, 2005, 11:27:32 AM
Found a few photos that show weathering and paint chipping to fairly good effect.  I'll add more as I come across them.  Hope they help.  Also keep in mind not all OD/Gray 38s were this beat up :)

Princess Pat of the 44th FS?  "Westy" Westbrook flew the "Florida Thrush" as a P38 right?  Found a B24H also named Princess -Pat-... heh!

Common name I suppose

There's a photo out there of Westbrook in front of Florida Thrush.   Lots of common names out there.

San Antonio Rose was a popular song that ended up as nose art on a lof of birds.  Lady Katherine,  Miss Fire, etc etc :)

Princess Pat was an 80th FS Headhunter 38 in the image I posted btw.

Some good photos of 44th FS birds on this site.  I've been trying to track down a copy of the book for my 38 unit history collection too:

Nice pics, but I'm not sure we want to have that much weathering on our skins.  Maybe a couple with severe weathering would be cool, but I think too much weathering can detract from the quality of the skin.  Just enough to give it an authentic look seems to be the best.
