"Even their claim of an "epidemic of violence" is fake. That claim, like so many other of their claims, has been so often dogmatically repeated that few think to question the claim by checking the FBI and other data. Homicide rates have been stable to slightly declining for decades except for inner city teens and young adults involved with illicit drug trafficking. We have noticed that, if one subtracts the inner city contribution to violence, American homicide rates are lower than in Britain and the other paragons of gun control."
Hmmm, wonder just how much of America's violence is attributed to the inner cities with their gangs and drug problems?

depends... but, even the most pessimistic would not put all of the homicides on the inner city gangs..
2002 fbi stats for instance show a little more than 9,000 firearms deaths in the U.S.
6 during rapes, 797 during robberies.... 56 burglary.. 553 drug deals.. gambling, arson carjack etc... total of about 1700 commited during a felony...
other than a felony about 4500.... 2100 of which are arguements gang and juvinile gang murders about 950 1000 "other" reasons
unknown reasons are 3,154
That would mean that most of the arguements and other reasons and unklnown would have to be inner city related. Not sure that is what is happening but it is a large portion..
known race of offender is about 2100 known white and maybe 2800 black or other races with 2500 being black.
even with all the unknowns going to the gang and inner city side of the ledger that leaves a lot of white murderers... maybe 2100 or so.. not that many whites are inner city dwellers. and 2100 is still a little higher per capita than england.
We would not come close to englands homicide rate but be about comparable to canadas say.

Yet again, you can't blaim guns for the violence, but the inner city culture.
I say we need to institute corporal punishment for most crimes. The crime rate would fall through the floor.

We have a name for that tiny sect of the criminal population that considers the legal ramifications of their actions. We call them criminal genius.

You think criminals would stop if you spanked them?

What are you talking about...the homicide rate in Canada in 2003 was 1.73 per 100,000...in the same year the rate in the US was 5.69 per 100,000. How can you say that's comparable to Canada...

ripper... we are talking about if you removed all the minority homicides. It was for comparisson purposes only. White only non gang related would be about the same. Doesn't really matter tho in my opinion.

It doesn't matter how many times it's repeated, it's still not true.
The FBI breaks down the homicide figures depending on the size of town they happen in.
Cities 25,000 - 50,000 people, murder rate 3.3 per 100,000
Cities 10,000 - 25,000 people, rate 2.7
Cities less than 10,000 people, rate 2.8
Non metropolitan counties 25,000 people and over, rate 3.3
Non metropolitan counties, 10,000 to 25,000 people, rate 3.0
Non metropolitan counties, less than 10,000 people, rate 3.7
England and Wales, including large cities, 1.6
London, rate 2.4
Remove the large city's figures from the England and Wales total and you get a rate of less than 1.
Certainly inner cities have higher crime rates, that's true all over the western world, but even excluding those areas, the US rate is way above Britain's (including Britain's urban areas).
It's also way above Canada's, which has a rate of 1.73 (including urban areas)
The British rate also includes manslaughter by negligence, which is excluded from the US figures, so there is even more of a difference than it appears from the stats (not sure if Canada includes manslaughtr by negligence)
