downloading now.
-
give us a review will you please?
-
Do you 'fly' the aircraft or is it just 'point and click'? If the former, it looks like it could interesting.
-
I only played it for twenty minutes or so, but from the controls mapping it would seem you can properly fly the aircraft.
All the sonar stuff seems very detailed.
-
Couldnt get mine to install right. Kept freezing during installation.
-
Downloaded and ran the demos. Realised very quickly that I'm going to have to sit down and read the user manuals (4 x .PDF documents). Has anyone else got beyond pilotage of the submarine vessel? I set the depth incorrectly and grounded mine, breaking off the navigation mast.
Think I'm going to watch Das Boot...
-
Yes, very very difficult to get into especially if you don't have a manual infront of you.
Beetle, don't forget that there's **** sticking down out of the Sub too. The depth meter is telling you where the Center of Mass is.
It's very difficult, but I'm intrigued by it. So far, the best I've done is torpedoed the enemy ship only to be torpedoed myself by the sub I didn't see which was 1 NM off my starboard side.

heh!
last year i bought the directors cut dvd, superb 5.1 sound, and
last week i got the five (5!)hours, 2 DVD edition!
the sound is not as good as in the directors cut edition, but a must have
for Boot fans.
6th's day now, every night i watch aprox 1/2h before sleep,
and still 2hours left LOL :D

Re Das Boot:
The same guys who did this also did Stalingrad.
I lent it to a guy who was a huge Das Boot fan and we both had an interesting observation. Both of us preferred Das Boot to be in German, with English subtitles (neither of us speak German) but when we watched Stalingrad it was much better, for us at least, in English.
Anyone else have similar experience?
-
I like listening to Rammstein better in German then in English.
About the game sounds cool but i don't think i'll give it a go especially if the manuals are that long. Looking at Su-27 Flanker and Falcon 4.0 sound like i'll be up to my neck in manuals for a little while.
-
I watched it in German the first time, though I speak no German. Nexx is a fan of this movie, and he suggested I do this.
As to Dangerous Waters, I read the "getting Started" section last night - 18 pages. Hmm, definitely not a game for the A.D.D. dolts. Going to take weeks....
-
I miss games with heavy manuals, can't wait to get home & try it...
-
Couldn't imagine buying and being able to find the time for a modern day sub sim when SH3 is out in a few weeks.

What is SH3?

im excited for Silent Hunter III too, but after playing the demo levels for DW about a hundred times I bit the bullet and ordered it. (since you cant get it in any local stores)
Playing as the MH-60 was just too much fun for me.. some guy reprogrammed the demo missions so you can do a little more stuff and hunting two Kilo's is just too friggin cool. Drop down a line of sonobouys and look for just the slightest indication they're there.. pretty fun. I killed off one once last night and the 2nd stayed ridiculously quiet, and I only found him when I got the tinyest speck of an active return when using the dipping sonar. Retracted the hydrophone, went to about 150 feet and lowered the MAD gear and flew along the track that I got the hit from until I heard 'MAD MAD MAD!" from the crew.. another hydrophone dip, ping, and then a drop of a Mk50 and *boom*.

If there is a decent amount of following online then I cant wait to hunt the silly sub drivers :)

Silent Hunter 3 destined to be the best subsim ever released, due date is 17th March.

What will the gameplay be like in SH3 or DW? If there's some realism by way of realistic missions, I might well be interested. Just so long as it's not "whizz-pop-ping-bap-boom", ruh-roh, grab another sub, rinse & repeat every 30 secs.
-
i certainly hope so, gixer. im not trying to take anything away from SHIII at all, because i cant wait for that as well
so far this month is looking up for games
2/18 - dw
2/22 - gt4
2/22 - mvp baseball 2005
3/17 - shiii
and then sometime in mid march or early april is the expansion pack for doom3, and then battlefield 2
-
Dark waters has realism, but then again it has it set that you can have all your crew members do the jobs. You just give out the basic orders.
Or you can do it all yourself if you'd like.

From what I read on SH3 its gonna have MULTIPLAYER WOLFPACKS!!!!
-
The controls and interface are alot like 688I and sub-command. Im d/l ing the demo now ill let ya's know
-
yeah i hope the other subs in the game are better then the kilo - that thing sucks!
but ASW part is a lot of fun!
-
Just played the demo for a few minutes but It looks prettycool. Controls are just like in sub-command. I had to veiw the options a few times to refresh my memory for the controls. I like the added helo option.but my poor lil kilo got waxed fairly easy :(
-
Pre ordered it, I hope they have fixed the issues they had wit torp speed and depths that were in SC. Multiplayer anyone? :)

ive gotta practice my helo'ing tho.. mh-60 is a prime SAM target when dipping (which i rely on way too much )

SH3 will have realism in spades look at the SH3 website and read the forums for details. There will be a full dynamic campaign. Crew management morale the works. This isn't something that's going to be released on the xbox a well. It's a true PC Sim.

Broken? Did you think to type Silent Hunter 3 into Google and click the first thing there? If not.

Please do! Am looking forward to it :)

Beetle,
I usually spend a day or two at our offices in Guildford on the way back so I'd be happy to share a couple of pints!
-
Got my copy yesterday, it's a nice FAT manual that comes with the platinium version... and right now, I'm still playing subs only, and learning the frigate commands. If you liked the previous ones in the series, the sub part is identical so far... as far as the other platforms, I have about another 200 pages or so to read up on...
(Only played a few hours so far, just started reading the manual on the way back from Brussels... 3h in / 3h out.)
-
Maybe HTC will take the hint...We want subs damnit! :p

Dangerous waters is shipping :)
-
Checked my mail today. Got mine :)
Now I gotta start learnin'
Only thing I remotely know what i'm doing in is the mh60.
