My daughter brought a Compaq Presario to me to see if it could be fixed. Seems like some idiot out in the country where they live had tryed to tap into the main power line and had blown a transformer which resulted in a power surge.
I believe the power supply is fried. The light on the back only flickers and no fans, etc come on.
I noticed the wiring on this PS is different than that of any I have on anything laying around here.
Any ides on where to get a PS for this puter and which ones will work?
It is a Compaq Presario S6020WM, Product # DT 055A.
I put an inquiry into Tiger Direct, but as of now I have received no reply.

Hhehehehe,
I just had this happen too me,
Ive got a Presario 5000, and I couldnt find a PS for it from tigerdirect.
Try Searching for Compaq Power Supplys on Google.
I found a website that carried refurbished PS's (Out of Cali) and ended up paying about 70$ for mine.
Just make sure you have the part number handy.

A generic $15 power supply won't fit? Be aware that it may not just be the power supply thats toast. I would try a new one before buying if possible since you may find yourself out the coin for the PS and still have a broke machine. Keep in mind that you can buy a decent machine for 300 without much trouble.

Okie doke. Thanks.
I just check the HP site and they are showing a stock PS for this particular PC for around $50.
I`m still going to dig around for a better deal.

Just ride around the neighborhood the night before garbage day.
An old Compaq is bound to be around there somewhere.
I see em all the time around here
