Title: Game freezin
Post by: Stone on February 20, 2005, 12:32:14 PM
Patch 2 had terrible freezing, but I still get freezings with patch 3.

Before I start to re-install everyghing, and testing memory etc. etc. please write here if you also have problems with this patch...

I can play 10min or 2 hours, but then suddenly picture freezes and I cant get out from the game.

I am forced to turn power off to cold boot the system.

Some other has complained in the game, but no one on the forum.

But most do not seem to have this problem, so maybe my PC just happend to get some probelm same instant when the patch came out, or maybe it did not like when I have to cold boot it all the time

I take it there is no issues with this patch, as no one else has any problems.

Very strange that the problems started imidietly after the new patches.

So I guess this is it for me and AH :(

Dam and I just bought this Track IR, hope I can get it sold tho.

I'd try a completely new install, saving your settings folder of course.  Download the full install and see what happens.

Barring that, it's time to look at your system as the culprit.  Heat issues, failing memory, video drivers corrupt - that sort of thing.

Good luck.

Stone, I too have had some freezing issues, but it doesn't crash the game. I've had problems before where a fresh install from the full download solved my problem.

I had a problem with the game freezing and then computer automatically rebooting. Turned out, uninstalling the latest driver for my card and going back to an old one did the trick. Maybe worth a try for you.

I've had the same problem.  Twice last night.  It always seems to happen when I'm looking at sky.

The screen will lock.

I can still hear the engine running.

ALT - TAB = Nothing

Windows Key = Nothing

ALT F4 = Nothing

I can't minimize or get the game to die at all.  I too am forced to hard boot the machine... I really hate doing that.... Lost some work I had open last night.  I can deal with choppy screens from low FPS... I can deal with disco's.... I can deal with warpy enemys... But I can't deal with a piece of software that forces me to hard boot my machine.  That is horrible for my machine and any other programs I have runing at the time.

I had the same problem a few ago,    and i uninstalled my video drivers and then reinstalled.  fixed it. I had updated drivers and kept the updated drivers.

I think sometimes, drivers dont always get installed correctly by the install software in the computer,  things may be messing them up, while the update is doing its thing.  so a reinstall may do it.   And when AH puts out a update and we install it,  some of our computers may fling files around and need the refresh install on some drivers.

Computers are all different, those little funny circuits can get funky on us   lol!

Stone how much Ram do you have?

I ask because tonight i found the real culprit for me.

I have 1024mb of Ram, using it AH now freezes and locks up, (loads to sys mem and not vid mem)

Now if i play with any 1 stick of 512mb it plays fine all night long, put them both back in and freezes again.

Don't know if its AH at fault or not.

Have to go test my ram separately a thankless task if ever their was one.

Hmm, well I think its mighty strange the problem with my PC starts the same instant the patch comes out.

But I gave my HD the "format C:" and re-install XP Home and drivers and re download AH2 & TIR and hope all works again.
If not I be very, eeh very grrr, very hmm, unhappy?

214thCavalier I have 512MB of RAM. Your problem does sound bad. It sounds like one of the 512MB stick is broken ?

Well last night I decided to update everything.  Went ahead and installed Service Pack 2 for XP Pro.  And I installed the newest ATI drivers.  SP2 didn't do much for game preformance.. the ATI drivers however caused the game not to run at all.  I ended up rolling back to the old drivers.  I haven't had a screen freeze since the upgrade to SP2 though.  Maybe some conflict that is resolved with the SP2 update.  I dunno.  I think it's time for a massive hardware upgrade personaly.

Puff, you're upgrade to latest ATI drivers must be done properly.  Refer to the http://www.atitech.com for best info.  If not 'uninstalled' correctly, the new drivers go in pooched ontop of the old ones - a big no-no.

My advice is at this point to 'uninstall' whatever you have in there then run a program called 'driver cleaner' or something like that.  ATI's website mentions it and provides a link.  Then reboot and cancel any hardware found messages.  Lastly, install the latest.

Also, make sure your motherboard's chipset drivers are installed so your AGP Gart Interface is working good prior to the new video drivers.

Gigabytes of data, tens of thousands of files, the chance for failure multiplies exponentially - especially when not reading the manual.
