Zeppelin has at least 10. I couldn't name very many seeing as I just listen to em (
:D ) but I'm sure they're up there.
Hendrix has too.
If you want tracklists, I guess I could dig some up... :)

Do your own research (http://www.rockhall.com/hof/allinductees.asp)!

"The impact of the Beatles upon popular music cannot be overstated; they revolutionized the music industry and touched the lives of all who heard them in deep and fundamental ways. Landing on these shores on February 7, 1964, they literally stood the world of pop culture on its head, setting the musical agenda for the remainder of the decade. The Beatles' buoyant melodies, playful personalities and mop-topped charisma were just the tonic needed by a nation left reeling by the senseless assassination of its young president, John F. Kennedy, barely two months earlier. Even adults typically given to scorning rock and roll as worthless "kid's stuff" were forced to concede that there was substance in their music and quick-witted cleverness in their repartee. Without exaggeration, they transfixed and transformed the world as we knew it, ushering in a demographic shift in which youth culture assertively took over from its stodgy Eisenhower-era forbears. "

Everything he ever wrote or recorded is phenomenal. I never get sick of listening to him.
-
Shrug; de gustibus, y'know? I think the point is more staying power. Another person could pick Barry Manilow, or Barry White.
How about, James Brown?

"Hello, I'm Johnny Cash"
Those four words resonated throughout the world much as "In God We Trust" and other familiar phrases which have stood the test of time.
Yet the introduction was never any more necessary than telling someone the name of the Mona Lisa when viewing the painting. Johnny Cash has been a household name for more than most people can remember, and his career spanned nearly five decades.
Few artists in history ever enjoyed the successful career Cash did. Many people describe him as a mythical, larger than life figure. Others describe him as one of the greatest recording artists of all time.
Yet there is no one description which adequately fits The Man In Black. He was a complex, unpredictable, ball of talent and energy that no one has ever been able to pigeonhole or categorize.
Johnny Cash's legacy will live on forever. His music, integrity and deeds will survive time itself. His contributions to mankind are immeasurable. A man loved by millions the world over; he is deeply missed.
Just pick any 10 he wrote or recorded.

Some of you older gents may not know them well but Green day is slowly becoming a band that will be remembered for years. They have been releasing albums since 1990. Although they never made world news untill their 1994 release of Dookie. They have continued to prove their ability with their new cd American Idiot wich grab all sorts of awards.
To me its amazing that they started out so long ago, in a time when many bands only lasted a few years and are still as big as they were then.
Here are my top ten from them.
1. Basket Case
2. Welcom to paradise
3. Nice guys finish last
4. Wake me when september ends
5. Minority
6. Warning
7. Boulevard of Broken Dreams
8. She
9. Walking Alone
10. When I come around
-
Living colour
Times Up
Pride
Glamour Boys
Elvis is death
Wich way America
Funny Vibes
Information overload
Love rears its Ugly head
midle man

money talks(This is fast)
well every song on every Cd i got is good
Every time u hear it, it gets better
That's because every musician in that band is really excellent.
They all came from Jazzy fusion bands And than they got together and played rock.
Mick Jagger really loved them and had them at their tours.
It was not normal they got in friendship with the stones.
If u want a quality band this is it.
-
Paradise City
Sweet Child O' Mine
Patience
Welcome to the Jungle
Pretty Tied Up
Live and Let Die
Mr. Brownstone
Mama Kin
November Rain
Knockin' On Heaven's Door
May not be great, but they are pretty dang good.
-

The Beatles certainly changed “Pop” music, but don’t confuse that with rock. The Who had a lot to do with shaping what bands in the early 70’s came up with. Hendrix was from Mars, but even Neil Peart from Rush said going to a Who show was a life altering experience without using drugs. THAT’s a show. And then he ultimately went on to make 2112, so I take that as good.
The Eagles made so many good tunes, like Fleetwood Mac, it’s all obvious 10 or more “great” songs. But Green Day and Living Colour, 10 “great” songs? Please.
Pop music basically sucks, from the roots to what it is today.
Here’s some actually great songs from a band called RUSH-
1. 2112
2. Limelight
3. Red Barchetta
4. Tom Sawyer
5. Hemispheres Cygnus X-1 Book 2
6. Spirit of Radio
7. Freewill
8. Anthem

10. Middletown Dreams
11. Camera Eye
12. A Farewell to Kings
13. Xanadu
14. The Trees
15. Natural Science
16. Analog Kid
17. Digital Man
18. Distant Early Warning
19. Kid Gloves
20. Bastille Day
21. A Passage to Bangkok
22. La Villa Strangiato
23. Closer to the Heart
24. New World Man
25. Show Don’t Tell
26. Test for Echo
27. By-tor and the Snow Dog
28. Force Ten
29. Turn the Page
30. The Big Money
31. Cygnus X-1

There is no confusion,While many songs by todays standards would be considered "pop" music such as
Ticket to Ride
This Boy
Taxman
I wanna hold your hand
Chains (neither of which are original Beatles tunes)
At the time they came to the USA Pop music was considered rock. And Vise versa
I cant think of a single Beatles tune that cant be considered Rock or wouldnt have been considered "rock" at the time it was released.
In any event.
You want 10 Beatles "rock" tunes?
Sgt Pepper Lonely Hearts club band
I want you/shes so Heavy
Oh Darling
Mean Mr Mustard
being for the Benifit of Mr Kite
Its Getting better all the time
Come together
Get Back
Happiness is a warm gun
Helter Skelter
Also the Beatles wrote many many songs that transended all forms of music.
"Hey Jude" should probably be considered in the above list also as well as "Yesterday"
Other songs that transended
Rocky Racoon
In My Life
When Im 64
You never give me your money
with a little Help From my Friends
And "Something" which Frank Sanatra claimed was "the greatest love song ever written"
along with a host of others.
But the Beatles ARE considered a Rock N Roll Band which is why you often still hear them on Classic Rock radio stations and not bands like The Archies "Sugar Sugarr"
Or the Bay City Rollers "Saturday Night"
You mentioned "The Who"
Look at the songs they were putting out when they first came over here.
Same thing with the Stones.
I cant think of a single song from either group that they put out when they first came out that wouldnt also be considered Pop Music.
The thing I like doing with all 3 of these Rock N Roll Bands is looking at their music and how it matured over time.
There is a marked difference in all 3 bands if you look at there first few songs and their last
But all are rock N roll bands
I see your listing Rush songs.
Rush is Heay Metal
Trying to say the Beatles music or even as you put it Pop music isnt Rock N Roll is the same as saying Heavy Metal isnt Rock N Roll
It is rock n roll. Its a subgroup of Rock n Roll just as Pop music is.
Billy Joel put it best
"Hot funk, cool punk, even if it's old junk
It's still rock and roll to me "

BTW the only music that "sucks"
Is Disco, Hiphop, and Rap/Gangsta rap
Now THAT music sucks

I don't think any music "sucks" per se but there is some music I can't listen to for very long. for example, to me the beatles immediately comes to mind. I'm pretty sure that the above genre of music is the late 20th century logical extrapolation of "beatle music" :D
Here's another 10 goodies from an influential artist.
Going Up the Country
Everybody Got to Change Sometime
Give Your woman What She Wants
Loving in My Baby's Eyes
Diving Duck Blues/Fishing Blues
Sing a Happy Song
Easy to Love
Don't Call Us
Everybody is Somebody
You Don't Miss Your Water
Just to recall a few :D

Ok, I can buy that
I feel the same way about Neil Young. And honestly. the rolling stones.
After a song or two I've had enough.
I should however remove Hiphop, Rap/gangsta Rap from the list of music that I think sucks though.
Not that I dont think they suck.
I do.
Its just that its gotta be music before it can be music that sucks.
they arent
they just suck

10. Drunk Sincerity
"I don't need to be a global citizen because i'm blessed by nationality.
I'm member of a growing populace, we enforce our popularity.
There are things that seem to pull us under and there are things that drag us down.
But there's a power and a vital presence thats lurking all around.
We've got the american jesus see him on the interstate, we've got the american jesus he helped build the president's estate.
I feel sorry for the earth's population 'cuz so few live in the u.s.a.
At least the foreigners can copy our morality, they can visit but they cannot stay.
Only precious few can garner the prosperity, it makes us walk with renewed confidence.
We've got a place to go when we die and the architect resides right here
We've got the american jesus overwhelming millions every day(exercising his authority)!
He's the farmer's barren fields, the force the army wields, the expression in the faces of the starving millions, the power of the man, he's the fuel that drives the clan, he's the motive and conscience of the murderer, he's the preacher on t.v, the false sincerity, the form letter that's written by the big computer, he's the nuclear bombs, and the kids with no moms, and i'm fearful that he's inside me.
One nation, under God."

Drediock, I was wondering how long before someone listed The Eagles. Great band. :)
Creamo, Back in Black was a commercial success for AC/DC, but I always felt it was lacking in comparison with their earlier work. Highway to Hell was a better overall album. Bon Scott LIVES!

What if the album had a reverse political stance? Would it be such a classic to you then? But, I have to agree with you, Green Day is an amazing band.

The greatest Rock 'n Roll album of all-time, not to mention the very first "debut as greatest hits" album.
This album changed the face of Rock forever. Forget about the Ramones and The Clash. The Ramones were Pop wannabes who couldn't find an ounce of the success they so desperately wanted, and The Clash were just four dorks milking the backlash the Pistols created with this album for every last ounce of its worth. THIS is the real deal; the genuine article. Fast, abrasive, rude, loud, raucous, politically and socially inclined, nothing was even remotely like this album, and to this day nobody can copy this sound, no matter how hard they try. Once you listen to this, you'll think twice about Green Day, Blink 182, Good Charlotte, and the myriad Poseur-Punk bands of the past two decades.

If you say so.
I'd still have to go with an Album that has a prism on the cover of it. An album that someone is throwing on the turntable that has been scratched to high heaven. Someone living in a hut in the middle of nowhere would have Dark Side Of The Moon playing.
Sex Pistols are good, but not the greatest.

It depends on your definition of Rock 'n Roll. If you think that glamorous guitars and long, beautiful hair make for a Rock band, well then... So be it.
The Pistols *were* and still *are* Rock 'n Roll. It was never about complexity (though each musician was exceptional with their respective instruments, Glen Matlock most of all). It was about raw power, the lyrics, and the message. A genuine "we don't care about what you think of us" attitude.
The Imitators and Posers who tried to follow in the wake of the Pistols didn't even grasp the concept of their music. They tried to make it either much more complex, or even simpler than it was, and they usually ****ed it up (the Dead Kennedys did a great job of keeping the flame with Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables, but then they screwed it all up after that, with their "Hardcore" BS).
If it is pure Rock 'n Roll you want, the Pistols canot be topped. If it's an image and sound of pomp and glamour, then listen to the mainstream that's already been listed.
And Zulu7: potatish@earthlink.net if you're that interested in the album ;) .

Another Pink Floyd follower? I see that you're not one for more intelligent music.
Don't get me wrong, it is a complex work of musical splendor. But Pink Floyd were full of themselves. They were suppsoed to be rebellious, but they didn't do anything to rebel! And talk about selfishness: They didn't (and still haven't) paid those kids who sang the chorus on "Another Brick In The Wall". There's more to music than the "music".
It's not Rock 'n Roll. It's Psychedelic Guitar-Based Pop.

OK, here you go...
"War Ensemble" by Slayer
Propaganda death ensemble
Burial to be
Corpses rotting through the night
In blood laced misery
Scorched earth the policy
The reason for the singe
The pendulum it shaves the blade
The strafing air blood raid
infiltration push reserves
Encircle the front llines
Supreme art of strategy
Playing on the minds
Bombard till submission
Take all to their graves
Indication of triumph
The number that are dead
CHORUS
Sport the war, war support
The sport is war, total war
When victory's a massacre
The final swing is not a drill
It's how many people I can kill
CHORUS
Be dead friend from abve
When darkness falls
Descend into my sights
Your fallen walls
Spearhead break through the lines
Flanked all around
Soldiers of attrition
Forward their ground
GRegime prophetic age
Old in its time
Flowing veins run on through
Deep in the Rhine
Center of the web
All battles scored
What is our war crimes
(Era forever more...war)
Propaganda war ensemble
Burial to be
Bones shining in the night
In blood laced misery
Campaign of elimination
Twisted psychology
When victory is to survive
And death is defeat
CHORUS
Sport the war, war support
The sport is total war
When victory's a massacre
When victory is survival
When this end is a slaughter
The final swing is not a drill
It's how many people I can kill

"a complex work of musical splendor?"
did you just make that up?
That sounds alot better than say, " a momentary lapse of reason"
I, myself, used to be a Floyd fan until i came to that exact same conclusion. That Pink Floyd was just an artistic experiment fueled by new technology, egos, and drugs.
And Karaya...though Dark Side must have been the best selling Floyd album and is surely being played in some grass hut somewhere...and was on the European top 200 list for what..14 years? It is by far the worst Floyd album of the Roger Waters era (note: all Floyd albums post-Roger Waters suck)
In fact, the best thing that ever happen to Floyd was the Live in Berlin Concert when you got to hear The Wall performed by actual artists like, dare I say The Band and even Sineade Oconner (or whatever her name is) And the USC marching band..no wait that was Fleetwood Mac.

Pistols were great and I agree the album was one that changed music forever.
Mind you to be honest they were a "created band" By that I mean they were a Punk boy band realy. Created and put together to sell an image. A great image and huge influence indeed but still a manufactured band!

Nice start on a dead list Manedew, but you need to add

Some other lists made me wonder about the new definition of 'Great'. Hell, if I never heard of the band or person I guarantee they don't have 10 GREAT songs under their belt. Talk about the dumbing down of America.
And the Sex Pistols sucked.

I think that's funny. I really do. It also pisses me off in more ways than you could possibly understand.
You *need* to read the actual history of the band, not the bull**** put out by Maclolm McLaren and fronted by most of the Media. Watch "The Filth And The Fury", read "Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs", and get the "Sex Pistols Box Set". Also, visit http://www.sex-pistols.net for more in-depth information.
The Filth And The Fury contains the history of the band, from its very first beginnings in 1972 to its implosion in 1978. It doesn't include any of McLaren's "I created all of it, I'm responsible" BS.
Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs is an autobiography written by John Lydon. It's very insightful, and shows you what his life was like, and how horrible London was in his early years.
The Sex Pistols Box Set contains a brilliantly remastered version of "Never Mind The Bollocks", plus it contains many, many rare recordings, along with one of their best live performances, "Screen on the Green, Islington 1976".
Watch, Read, and Listen, and then tell me that Malcolm McLaren "created" them. And for you, Mr. Midnight Target: How about a decent argument rather than flame bait? Maybe then I'll have a talk with you.
P.S.
Glen Matlock played bass on their studio recordings. John Simon Ritchie (aka Sid Vicious) did play bass in the studio, but they later cut his bass tracks because they sounded awful. Steve Jones did some bass backing, but they also cut that because it wasn't as rich or powerful as Glen's technique. Sid and Steve therefore didn't contribute in the bass department.
And another thing: Malcolm McLaren *did* suggest some cover art for their records, but none of his ideas hit with any of the band members. It was Jamie Reid who did all of the work, so he deserves the credit. All McLaren did was get them (bad) places to play, and he made clothes for them. Not to mention the fact that he squandered money from the band, and kept all of the royalties for himself. Malcolm McLaren is a very bad person.

Sorry, but I think REM was a pretty cruddy band, terrible songs, average musicians and in no way innovative. What did they innovate?
-
The only REM song I ever liked was "Man On The Moon"
But nothing they did was innovative in the slightest way.
-
Innovation is a highly subjective thing, however, differences of opinion aside at least I didn't cop out and nominate some of the most ubiquitous music out there. Judging by your acceptance of Man on the Moon and a plethora of Beatles, then I can see where your musical tastes lie, and it seems rather safe.
In any case, I tend not to take any music that has been created after the so-called 'Tonal Era' too seriously. It lacks the depth of structure, instrumentation, complexity and theory that makes classical music a rich topic for discourse and enjoyment.
-
I, on the other hand show an amazing breadth of musical knowledge and depth of class and good taste when I proudly proclaim, "Hank! 20th century music starts and ends with Hank!"
(and Gershwin, Joplin, and Muddy Waters)

Yeah, and "Losing My Religion" was a real daring, ground breaking song. :lol
REM was a watermelon band. Name one thing they did that you feel was innovative.
They sucked. Nobody who is sane would put REM in the same league as the Beatles.
And "Man on the Moon" was good because it was different from all REM's other crap.

"When you're seein' 20 things at a time, ya just can't slow things down!!!!"
Probably my favorite of all punk albums.
And Danzig is a friggin Midget!

Did you see Danzig get the crap beaten out of him? That kicked ass!
I'd like to see Glenn Danzig and Henry Rollins in a cage fight. Now THAT would be a spectical!

Danzig would just summon some kind of primordial demon thing that would eat Rollins for lunch. Barring that, Rollins would pound the crap out of Danzig.

LOL no
And as for Berry. Consider the time he was in when those songs came out.
We're talking people doing "the bunny hop" was being wild and crazy
so Music like Berrys Style was over the top

Thars different genres of music.
You might be able to see some connection between two or fifty of them.... like in your example.... lets say "rebellion"... shared 'tween Berry and Zed Leppelin. But that doesn't make them the same genre of music.
Just 'cuz Chuck got all crazy doesn't make him head bangingly metal.

I love the Sex Pistols as much as the next punk does but if you ever see a video recording of any of their live performances, you'll see a member of the band with his instrument not plugged it. For live shows at least, the stage manager was the bassist because Sid Vicious wasn't all that good of a bass player.
And the Sex Pistols were a marketing gimmick. Yep, that's right a gimmick. Their manager/producer and creator, Malcom Mclaren, created the Sex Pistols to help boost sales of his clothing store. so while they did put out good music (with a little production help on their records) they were basically a corporate tool.

LOL! You never listened to Sid Barret era Floyd and withholding money from those little brats is the ultimate one can give.

Funniest Grammy ever was the year Jethro Tull won for best metal band.
How come nobody mentioned Tull yet anyway? Or Genesis... Pre-"Trick of the Tail".
