So every finn in AH2 will be in CT nonstop, and steamroll anyone else who shows up? Been there, done that, cured me of any interest in CT

Sorry. Now that I've vented, I feel much better. ;)

actually you are wrong on that count in my timezone.  Most likely either a JG2 or JG54 flyer will hand you your head during peak US play time.  When the Finns are on that usually represents a great opportunity to hone my skills as they are great players and great sportsmen as well.  I'll be hoping you show up, bring some friends you are going to need them.  :D

one of my favorite setups.   It was pretty even when I was on last and I was russian.   Was fun killing FM2's for a change and seeing how other people flew em.

I tried to fly in the CT on Saturday, but I suffered from whatever bug causes invisible planes.  The problem persisted even after rebooting the computer, so I just gave up and wrote off the CT for good.

The invisible planes are a bug of the FinRus map, it happens only if you came in from another arena but it shouldn't be happening if you came straight to CT after restarting the game... Happens on SEA and CT both when this map is on.

Sorry to hear that Simaril...

We usually try to balance the sides (usually splitting the squads in ½) unless it is a special occasion. Like a Friday or a Saturday, when we're all drunk and want to have a nice conversation on our VOX :)

Several months ago I really wanted to give the CT a chance. i won't belabor the problems I ran in to, but the higher level of sportsmanship and balance I expected to find just wasnt there. The last straw for me came when i upped as russian against the finns, and ofund myself completely and totally outnumbered. I texted the equivalent of "teams!?!" several times -- but the Finnish contingent explained that this was their favorite scenario, because it covered THEIR national history, and they didnt want to fly for the bad guys agianst their nationals. I completely understood, I upped anyway.

I got vulched twice, and the third time when I upped with nearly even odds a Finn suicided to Ho me rather than run to safety when my friendly chased him.

In other words, CT looks like the MA with tiny numbers and a limited plane set. At least in the MA, there are enough combat zones that I can find one to suit my tastes on a given day.

"The CT looks like the MA" whine again.  Ok let me try this once more.  If you have the arena with even a small number of people like...er....um ...hmmm YOU!!! who happens to be an MA player then it is naturally going to take on the the characteristics of MA play.  If you come on (more than once) when you see many CT regulars on then you will see a significant difference in the play style.  That doesn't mean you will not be vultched or ganged at times.  It means that you will generally see lots less of it.  Every player has their "off day"  Yesterday I got so angry at some HurriIIc HO'rs that once I shot him down down I repeatedly vultched him 'til he left griping about the CT being teh suck.  Generally I won't do that though.  The best fights IMHO is when you have those tiny numbers you guys disdane.  generally you'll see players like 1duke1, slash27, VWE001, N7, Redd, RedDog, Rhye2 and others that are equally proficient that I have simply forgotten to name (but will promptly recall after hitting "submit reply")  anyone of those players will tear you (or me) a new rectum while eating a sandwich and dodging wife/GF ack.  But many of you MA l33ts won't ever find out.  will ya's?  No matter the CT is fun, more fun than the MA and I play both.  The truth is i believe I do much better in the MA but I get challenged more in the CT.

huh? Because of a bug? Seems odd coming from you but what ever. I always enjoyed trying to kill you. Great learning experience. That particular bug sucks and usually relogging fixes it. I did however have to relogg several times one night to get it working. It was annoying. But I didnt write the place off, so suck it up!:D

Simaril, this isnt a "what I dont like about the CT" thread. Its a friendly post to advise those intrested of the current CT set up. Troll elsewhere please. Im sure Humble can help you out.

btw   The CT is what you make of it.

you have turds in MA

and you have turds in CT, I just ran into 3 of them all trying to kill me at the same :)

but you are more likely to find a 1 v 1, 2 v 2, 2 v 1 fite you'll remember in CT than you are in MA

usually you will be left alone to finish a good 1 v 1 fight in CT (unless you are surrounded by CT score potatos) even CT has a few of those ..

I remember you, Simaril, was nice having you there.

I imagine that part of the "I didn't like the CT" feeling is that you really have to spend a month or so there to get to know it better.  Same thing happens to me, in reverse:  I've never spent much time in the MA, certainly not a continuous month.  Maybe I'd like it if I did.  But since I don't, all I notice is the constant ganging and vulching, and the almost total absence of pre-1945 airplanes.

OK, I'll give it another try. What days and times can the true blue CT'ers generally around? My system is dinged right now and I cant fly till tech support sends me a new card, but I will check things out when I'm able to up again.

And Storch, just because you've heard it before and you dont like it doesnt make it a whine. My experience as an interested explorer was real -- and was negative over a period of several weeks. Seeing stuff like enemies ignoring my fighter while they  go about capturing every base on the map, and so on, just disillusioned me. If that negative experience has been seen often enough that many people try the CT and leave, does that mean we "whine" or that the CT has a PR problem?

Like OM said. Spend a little more time then decide. You may still think it sucks but maybe not. Try tues and thurs nights starting around 8pm EST. Thursday nights usually have the biggest crowds  With the current set you may have 30+ on any given night.

Well, let me clarify since that wasn't some kind of CT whine.  I'm not mad at the CT for some gameplay reason or because it's "not like the MA" or because it's "too much like the MA" or whatever.  I've thoroughly enjoyed playing there.  But when you consider that I usually don't get online until around midnight EST, the CT is routinely empty.  Not just somewhat empty, but totally and completely empty.  I was pleasantly surprised to find the CT active with Finn-Rus up, but the persistent invisible planes bug received about as much effort from me as I felt was justifiable.

It's not about liking or disliking.  It's a simple fact.  MA players bring MA mindset and MA values into the CT.  Other MA players see that and say "WTF this is the same but only with a buttsuck plane set" and *poof* they're gone.  I just logged from the CT where some well intentioned MA players did us all a "favor" by knocking out the allied HQ.  Standard practice in the MA however it  kinda blows the game in the CT for most of the players.  fortunately most everyone stayed and continued playing on.  there were some very good fights on at the time which might have had something to do with it.  I personally could care less as I feel that radar and icons have no place in this type of game and neither does the moving map.  Other players are easily upset by stuff like that.  If you try to explain to the players that those actions are considered a no no you leave yourself open to a response of "it's my $14.95 you jerk" which is also exactly correct.  So therein lies the rub, on the one hand you have people that are looking for a "break" from the MA same ol' same ol' but they don't stop to consider the unspoken standards in another arena.  What is a player supposed to do?  Personally I wouldn't like the CT with 200 players.  It would be way too hectic. Some of my most memorable fights have been when there are about 6 players on.  In time if you fly one side or the other the different sounds that the airplanes make clue you as to if its an enemy or not adding another dimension to the game that is not applicable in the MA or anywhere else in AH.  50 players is too many in the CT as for myself I hope it remains at the attendance levels we are currently seeing.  Perhaps it would be best left as it is.  Don't come, stay in the MA.  :D

Let me put out an alternative proposal, mentioned by storch, too.

Having lots of people in the arena can be a fun thing.  But it isn't everything, and for some of us, it isn't even close to being the most important thing.  Good fights, good cameraderie, discovering nuances in a plane set, an enjoyable evening, can be worth the extra time it takes to find an opponent or two.

I suggest you come in during the times that there aren't a lot of people there.  Tuesdays and Thursdays are the busiest nights, and we're glad that squads are coming back and filling out the numbers and attracting new blood.  But stop in on a Sunday night, or Monday or Wednesday (usually starting around 10pm Eastern time).  You may not find more that four or five people there, but they're the cadre, usually.  You can get to know people that way, make friends, learn different flying styles, check out different types of airplanes and see how they work against other types (don't mention my G6 v. Storch's A-20 battle, please).  If you find it boring, come in on the busier nights, see what you think then.

Yep. Some of the best times Ive had have been on saturday or sunday afternoons. You see a few guys in there and pop in. With in 10 minutes the place fills up with 15-20 guys and its a blast.

I didnt take it as a whine at all. I didnt word my respose very well either. Wasnt intending to come across as an ass. My whole point really was I didnt want see one of the best pilots in AH not drop in anymore.
