Title: how many kids?
Post by: rabbidrabbit on February 23, 2005, 04:34:45 PM
Ok, need the voice of experience..  Is there a best number of kids?  I hear 1 will have them stuck to you like glue.. 2 is best since they keep each other busy... more just compounds the pain...

If they are Beetles kids, I agree with his response.  Otherwise, even numbers.

My goal is 2 so im only half way there :)

2 people make 2 kids sounds about right, but there are always stuff happening so for the world to be in balance a few couples should get 3 and i nominate you for that job cause im firmly set on a total of 2 (unless we get twins the next time ofcourse).   pheuuu that dragged on.

Two.

The jump from 1 to 2 isn't too bad.

The jump from 2 to 3 is horrendous.  They outnumber the parents!!!

Trust me...limit it to 2 if you can.

...and by the way...NEVER raise your hands against your children..it leaves your crotch exposed.  :)

Two is probably a good number...

...or at least I thought so. The bickering between two teenagers is a bit of a drag. The only time it ends is when they're asleep.

I think 2 is the golden number.

The real question should be... how far apart?

Im 3 years older than my sister. I can tell you that when I have kids they will be at a minimum 6 years apart.

I think that when the eldest is 6 or 7 years old they will get along better, for one will be a teenager when the other is entering his pre-teen years.

That way they wont compete for the same toys, the same priviledges, for the attention of the same parent, etc.

I have 3.  Number 3 was a suprise.  At the time I was pretty pissed off about the extra kid, thought I couldn't afford it, didn't want to have another blah blah blah.  Turns out (he's 11 now) he's the one that contributes positively to my sanity and I thank god every day for the "little suprise".  Oldest is 20 going on 14, H.S. dropout and has this crazy idea I'm supposed to let him stay home and play video games (I'm giving him his eviction notice as soon as I get home from my trip).  For a comparitively "easy teen" as far as his disposition, I failed miserably with him somewhere along the line.  The middle kid is 15, a prime example of ADHD and beyond being one of the most intelligent kids I ever met, he's been a total nightmare to raise.

Doesn't matter how many kids you have, just love'em the best you can and guide them right.

Heh, now that's funny. ;)  My sister is 5 or 6 years older than me, depending on what month it is, and we fought like cats and dogs.

Couldnt agree more!  :aok

I have two

Girl 5
Boy 3

I think with two you avoid the "middle child" syndrom wich may be a myth who knows.  But economically I dont need a car that seats 5 wich is cool.  Also its easier to found affordable houseing with a smaller family....kids having to share a room can be a nightmare sometimes.

More than 2 its a sure bet you can at least utilize "hand-me-downs" so that's not that bad.  Just remember the golden rule with kids......"you cant get one something and not the other"  So if you pick up a surprise for the kids on the way home from work multiply them by 3 now.

we had 3.  because 4 would have just been stupid.

just realize that after 2 the work increases exponentially.  3 are not just 50% more work than 2, it's more like 3 times the work to add the 3rd kid and it increases the more you go.  be very careful adding that 3rd kid, thats the point where they now outnumber you.

the real question isn't the number though.  it's the when to have them.  my first was born when I was 19.  on one hand that was very hard financially.  I have friends who's kids are very young and they don't have near the problems we did with school-cloths and general kid expenses.
on the other hand my youngest graduates in 3 years, while I have friends I went to HS with who's youngest is less than a year old.  they'll be in their 50's when they get teenagers (ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, that should be some show) while I'll be getting a break soon.

maybe I should have qualified it as "stupid for us".
I know that 3 have had me at the end of my rope more times than I can count.
4 might very well have been the end of me.

I'm amused at the people saying "two" while the youngest is barely out of diapers. When that youngest goes to school, you can bet that wifey is gonna bring up the subject again :)

3 - its great for pack mentality...

Tumor, encourage your kid to get his GED.  Sounds like he might have some social problems.  Help him find a career field he likes, then boot him out.

3 sounds most balanced.
2 seems too interdependent.
0 is ideal if you arent willing or capable.

I have three - 14-year-old girl, 9-year-old boy/girl twins. If two are together, they play fine. Add the third - and it doesn't matter which one it is - and WWIII breaks out.  I love my kids, and if I was asked which one I would give up it would depend on the day and who was behaving the worst, but with regard to the question asked, I would recommend two. There is a reason that all travel packages are set up for "a family of four". And don't even get me started on the cost of educating them...
