The BBC hosted a unique global television debate about America's place in the world with 10 other national broadcasters.
As part of the What The World Thinks of America programme, 11,000 people in the UK, France, Russia, Indonesia, South Korea, Jordan, Australia, Canada, Israel, Brazil and the US responded to a poll asking their views and opinions on America.

The respondents were asked about their general attitudes towards America and US President George Bush.

The poll also posed a range of other questions on America's foreign policy, military power, cultural influences and economic might.

Click on the links above to view a comprehensive series of graphs illustrating the findings of the poll.

All interviews were carried out during May/June 2003 in the following 11 countries:

Australia - Roy Morgan Research
Brazil – LPM Research F2F
Canada - Leger Marketing
France – IPSOS Opinion
Indonesia – Synovate
Israel - PORI
Jordan – IPSOS Stat
Korea – ORC International
Russia – Russian Research & F2F

Oh I dunno just thought it interesting. Working hard here to try and alter the WASP bias on this section of the BBs I guess. It worries me the level of paranoia I read in here and I thought it might aleviate some of the stereotyping that all europeans hate the US.

Good luck with that, your battling 50 years of anger and resentment by most Americans. I watched an interesting debate on PBS the other week, a socialogist said American history can be broke down to 4 era's, Young Americans, Naive Americans, Ugly Americans, and now Angry Americans. So good luck with your efforts, I think your pretty much doomed to failure. Your dealing with the "Yankee Go Home" generation and they have an axe to grind.

Yes, it was coined in 1949 by British novelist Eric Blair.

And if 63% of the world views us as arrogant, I say screw 'em, and let's just do what we want anyway.

Most Euros just gotta bicker about us now and then, They hate us but who gives a fock. They got nothing better to do. that's all, actually pretty sad that they gotta have debates over the US all the time. Would hate to see what they fight about in a game of poker or something vs the US.

Lets see if I can make this simple for you all.

We don't hate you.

Ok so far?

Some of us, quite a few, don't think Bush or his policy is very sensible.

Ok still?

Some of us are not very happy about what we see happening in America and in the Middle east right now.

Got that bit ok?

Therefore some of us might express this when we post on this subject.

By now you should be getting
the picture?

But that is NOT  the same as HATING YOU ALL.

Not too hard to understand is it?

Ok now we hopefully have cleared that up!

Now we have plenty to debate over here but since this board is full of Americans discussing the current state of the War and the US etc its more likely we will be discussing that too isn't it?

Perhaps you might like to open your minds and learn a litttle more about us and what's going on outside your nation. pigs might also fly of course!

No Martlet Furball said that!

I agreed that some of the Americans I've met in here sadly confirm that sterotype.

I also said ( which you repeatedly ignore )

"Infact I think an American is somebody who lives in North or South America And Americans are as diverse a bunch as we Europeans."

Which would seem to mean that I do not think all Americans are jerks. Just some of those who I've met in here.

You are the master of the misqote!

The problem with saying you hate Bush is 50%+ of America voted for him. They interpret that as you now hate them because they voted for him.  Thats how you get them all riled up.

I dont hate Bush. I think he's bad for your Nation. And the rest of us too.

I rather think the "If you're not with us your against us" concept has taken too great a hold on your country.

That statement reeks of Paranoia and fear. A well armed Paranoid superpower is something the world ought to be a little worried about.

I loved America last time I was ther 1998. But I'm afraid I'm not sure I'd like it so much now.
