to me, the term american is more of a concept and less of a construct. an idea, a philosophy.
i am curious to know how others define the term american.
what does it mean to you?
how would you define it?
-
People from North or South America?
-
bonk.
;)
-
Someone who understands that their right to free speech isn't being infringed just because someone else doesn't agree with them.
-
1. Any person who's nationality is united states of america.
2. Any person residing in or originating from the continents North America or South America.

You are disciplined but tolerant; a true American.
-
an american is someone who lives in america, "america" being a shortened form of united states of america.
someone from canada would never call themselves a "american", they are canadians, mexicans are from mexico, brazilians are from brazil, etc
actualy anyone that wants to call themselves "american" can do so.
if a frenchman comes to america, he can call himself a "american", but if a american goes to france, he can never be a frenchman, he will always be called american.

Does this person also own a handgun?
-
"A person who has bad manners, habits, and breeding can hardly expect to get along with decent people."
Talk about a loaded question.
"and breeding"?...I agree with the first two and have no idea what the test means by "bad breeding"?
...and to think I was mocked because I used a dog in a gun crime stat.
lol

And I quote:
A "jerk that won't let anyone from any other country express any sort of patriotism without a swift smack down."
I'll leave out the fat as I've know way of knowing that. How do you know that Furball?
Other than that I sadly agree that is an accurate description of many Americans I have met in here.
Infact I think an Americanis somebody who lives in North or South America And Americans are as diverse a bunch as we Europeans.
-
hey putz, if you dont like it here, why dont you go elsewhere?
You think this niche is America?
If you cant see it for the slice of the pie it is, with the inherently smaller proportion of center, get a clue.
-
I was only joking.
I learned long ago that there are nice people, and there are jerks in every country.
Just american jerks are very outspoken.
-
Being a patriotic American Id have to say an American is someone who believes in their nation, even with its falts, and believes in freedom.

Says the boy who earlier claimed he didn't hate Americans, then just described them as jerks.....
-
Most idiotic, loaded question ever....
An American is a person who will do whatever it takes to get the job done.
An American is also a person that will do whatever it takes to become overweight, lazy, and beat his wife.
Americans are just as often lazy and worthless as they are helpfull to society--wait, did I say that???
An American is the kind of guy who, given access to a time machine, would turn back the slave ships.... Not to prevent slavery, but to prevent the blacks from overrunning the wellfare system 250 years down the line.
That's an American.
Oh yeah, and an American will readily have sex with a Japanese potato, but that'll be our little secret.
-
Martlet can you actualy read?
I was quoting Furball!
read the rest of my post go on see if you can manage it
:lol
-
An American is someone who is most thankfull to be an American to begin with, but even more thankfull that ScrewLu is not. :D

I enjoy watching anti-american eurotards make fools of them selves. It's one of my favorite pass-times.

I did. I exposed you as a lying anti-american eurotard again. It's almost too easy, though.

FWIW, I don't believe there's anything in the Bill of Rights that limits it to citizens. YMMV.

I like Pr0n.

I concur. The solilique(spelling) by Tom Joad from Grapes of Wraith is perfect I think.

Ever notice how ScrewLu has a distinct habit of trying to drag someone into his rescue when he gets his *** in a crack? (Which on the average is every 3 to 5 mins :D )
Always looking for someone to hide behind.
-
Lol... he correctly described the vast majority of the posers on this board as boorish *******s.. The vast majority of posers on this board also happen to be American...
That doesn't mean that *ALL* americans are *******s, even if you are incapable of understanding that not so subtle point.
-
Dunno what his point was as I can'nt hear him. That ignore button is wonderful.
But yes sadly you are correct though there are a few voices of a more open minded and intelligent nature from America than the others in here, that gives me some hope.;)
And for the simpler minded in here. That must also mean that in your country their must be some much more open minded and rational people too. Therefore I can safely say that I am unlikely to be an "Amerihater" or an anything hater realy. ( that realy is a stupid word  )

No, it's a characteristic of most, unlike other places where it would be a characteristic of the few.
