Just a thread to promote some geneological interest.
My direct line came to the U.S. from Ireland in the 1770s. I am the six generation to be born in the U.S.
:)

Not a clue. Genealogy is for nerds. ;)

I thought this was the one. :aok

No family names or records were kept regarding my ancestors trip to America.:(
Sometime between 1620 and 1863, I gather...
-
Do you include Canada in America.
If so 1790s They ran from the guillotine
-
Sounds good to me Aubrey. Canada's settlement is a lot like the U.S.'s. Any country is free to give their ancestry in this thread if they'd like.
:)
-
1734
-
1981. Before that, we were Mother Russian Jews. Now we rule the world, or, at least several thousand square feet of it.
-
Uh... I think I'm 2nd generation. Not sure how that qualifies.
Mother's side in 1950 from Bavaria (Waldenberg). Aunt was first born in Germany, mother was born in the states.
Father's side in... early 1900s, possibly 1920s from Moravia I think. Grandfather of that side born in the states. Supposedly have blue blood and related to the first el presidente of Czechoslovakia post WWI. :)
After that, I'm a mutt. German, Czechoslovak, Scottish, Irish, Norwegian, etc... Probably asian, african, antarctican, blah blah blah, too.
-
Poland and Germany, respectively, circa WWI.
-
Just to clarify, but 2 generations would be 2 parents and some kids?
-
Some furriners immigrate, they have children in the states. Their kids are 1st generation. The kids kids are 2nd. I think.
-
My family came over on the last voyage of the Angel Gabriel in 1635.
-
Probably not longer than this guys

That guy's just an extremely displaced Mongolian who got lost on the land bridge and got a suntan. Now he drinks and builds casinos.
-
But he was there longer than all you Europeans and Africans!
-
My parents were 1st generation.. Mom's parents from Italy, Dad's from Italy and Sweden.
-
1/8 choctaw, but beyond that, the most recent immigrant in my family would be Swiss, circa 1840's.
-
3rd Generation - and I'm AMERICAN - nothing else - AMERICAN. I'm not into that political correctness blue state horse crap. Enough with the Columbine stuff - Like the voice from the spinners overhead speakers said in Blade Runner - "Move on, Move on, Move on."

Not that obscure... I was young, impressionable and Etta Place looked yummy. :)

6th generation German on my Dad's side.
God only knows how many generations of Brit on my mom's side.
-
Just to clarify, but 2 generations would be 2 parents and some kids?
To keep this simple, the line that carries your name(i.e. male side). If you want to lay them both out, then please do so.
:)

Fathers side supposedly were indentured servant welsh sheep theives early 1700's. That side of the family setteled to Sand Mountain in Alabama and parts of Tennesee.
My mother's side of the family were 2 brothers last name Brink probably shortened from Brinkerson mixed from Sweden and the Bohemian region of Czecoslovacia came here through Boston in the 1800's.
One brother stayed in Boston and started the Brink security service. Eventualy Brink armored cars. The other son setteled in South Dakota my mothers branch of the family. There is some contraversy in the Brink family that I may be related to a Son of the Brink brother from SD that had several children of a Lakota Souix woman in the very late 1800's. Being good Lutherans they did't talk much about it. The original sod hut foundation is still on the family land in SD.

As far as I know, my grandparents on both sides came over from Czechoslovakia (sp?)
-
three generations removed from Italy - great grandfather took the boat ride to America

So you are all ex Europeans then!

Maternally we settled in Monterrey prior to 1776 and were among the very first Spanish settlers in San Francisco in June (I think) of that year. I believe I'm sixth generation- my grandma kept track of all that but she died in 1963, my Mom insists we never intermingled with the indiginous populations which might make us (ugh) Mexicans, so I believe we interbread for a couple generations in there, which might explain the crosseyed trait we all share.
My Dad's family immigrated here in the early 20s from Germany and were devout facists. They were German sympithizers during WW2 and refused to fight against Hitler- in fact a great uncle of mine was imprisoned for refusing induction into the Army and didn't get out of prison until 1952. Old pics from the 1930s show my great aunts wearing Swastika beltbuckles.
I guess that makes me an American.

Australia: March 2003 to present.
USA: January 1999 to December 2002.
England: From 1066 or shortly thereafter :), though it's possible that they had ancestors who'd left Britain for France in the 5th Century (the family name is probably from Brittany originally).
-
My Dads Grandfather arrived in the US in 1908, From Lebanon.
My Moms Family I dont really know. But I think, German. Probably Mid 1800's before the Civil War.

Dad's side came from East Prussia sometime in late 1890s best I can tell. Mom's side German from way back, late 1700s, early 1800s. There's some Irish in there somewhere too I think.

Hmmm...1592. Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo is a very distant relative of mine.
There are also family records that show there has been an Osio in California since the late 1600's. One of my ancestors, Antonio Maria Osio, was also the military commandant for Alta California and was the original owner of Angel Island in San Francisco Bay when the governor of California gave him the island to raise his cattle in 1837.
This is another house that was built back in 1849 by another one of my ancestors.

My family arrived in Mass. about 1632 from England. I am a nerd and have every census report they are on since 1800.
-
Circa -800 BC on my father side, from the plains of Slovakia on my father's side with some gallic tribes. By the 1530's on my mother's side, a jeweller from Genoa who crossed the Alps and settled in Marseille... In France of course :D
-
grandfather was a son of the american revolution, grandmother was a daughter of the american revolution.
quick story....
I really need to get the family book out for this, but i'll wing it.
My great great great whatever was the "leader" of a group of colonials in upstate new york during the french/indian wars. One day at work, I was talkin' with a guy who I was friends with. He was obvously french, (both in name and appearance) and I was givin' him a hard time about it (all in fun). HE then proceded to brag about how far back his family tree goes, and he comes from a line of military commanders. After some talking he mentioned that his great great great whatever, was a general for the french in the french and indian wars, and was involved in the fighting in upstate new york (small world eh?).
After much talking, and some phone calls, it turns out, my great great whatever, was in charge of the milita that fought his great great whatever who was in charge of the French forces, in the Mohawk Valley in upstate new york.
Wow! What are the odds.
Unfort. his great great whatever beat my great great whatever, and the French won that battle. So I then shoved 'em into a wall (playfully) and told him I am gonna finish what grandpa started. He actually took me serious for a min there, and durn near wet himself. (this guy's like 5'6" 130lbs, and i'm 6'4"220lbs). I of course was kidding, we went out, smoked a big fat joint (this was in my "wild younger years") and to this day laugh about what a small fuggin' world it indeed is.
-
Not any American blood in my veins.....just thought it's a point of interest that I'm a direct decendant of the Captain of the Mayflower.

-
Well, thanks swoop for your forebears getting my mom's side over on the Mayflower. Dad's came over during the Irish famine (jumped ship to avoid indentured servitude).
Both sides messed around with the locals so I have a variety of Indian blood as well, cherokee, pawnee/shawnee.
I'm a true american mutt.

What do you mean by "direct line"?
-
moi? (i'm guessing so)
i said direct descendant. meaning that it traceable and that it is by blood rather than by second marriages or other arrangement etc...
not sure if its the right term or not...
not sure why you'd care...but ok.
there it is.

My paternal grandfathers family came over from Germany when he was around 3 years old. I'm going to guess that was sometime in the 20s. My mothers family has been here far longer.
-
On my dad's side, all Irish for as far back as we have family records (about 1810). According to some tax records we have, I had relatives at some fort south of Terre Haute Indiana between 1810 and 1812 (shows a record of 10 white settlers in 1810). From what we can tell they built wagons and carriages. On my mom's side, my grandmother was 2nd gen. German-American and my grandfather was 2nd generation norwegian-american.

1763, Freidrich Brenhöltz entered the New World through the port of Philadelphia.

yeah well...im of uninteresting peasant stock...

all americans are.
we dont believe in kings.
;)
-
Came over with my parents from the UK in 1974. So exactly 31 years.
BTW - What better reason do you need for tightening immigration laws than that?
-
Got my surname from a man who came to England in 1066, and a man who came to barnstable Massachusetts in 1639.
"I'm an american, our names don't mean ****."
-
1632 - Massachusetts.
-
Ephriam Robinson immigrated from Erin's Isle to Charleston, S.C. in 1780. During the War of Northern Agression one of my ancestors, John Pitts, was a POW. He was summoned to The White House for what he was sure was to be his execution. Instead, his reputation as a talented dancer had preceeded him. Lincoln asked him to entertain at a dinner party. After his performance he was given a Presidential pardon and set free.
-
My heritage is Welsh and Scottish.
My last name is French.
You figure it out. :D
Actually, the farthest back I can go is about 1830 or so...

1 branch I can trace to the passenger manifest on Captain John's Smith voyage, hopping off the boat in Virginia. The other branch .. well... *had* documents of land titles in South Carolina that were gifts from the King. Can't give a thorough explanation, my mom threw out all of the geneology documents my family had when my great grandmother died... either way, my family has been here for awhile, and had members serving in almost every war up until Vietnam.
