MY DAD GOT A FREE IPOD!!!! PLEASE GUYS SIGN UP USING THIS LINK I WANT ONE SO BAD!!! MY DAD IS BRAGING ABOUT IT
-
I would like to receive promotional emails from third-parties.
In other words, I don't get enough spam already.
-
The link is a referral link and is cause for banishment on pretty much any forum you visit. This thread needs to be locked and Jay needs to be delete the link.

srry

Did your dad get hit by a dumbtruck? If so, how'd that one work out?

-
lmfao no thats not me. thats jet
-
If you want an Ipod, easiest way to get one is to get a job and buy one.
-
i already got 2 peeps 3 more
-
Ipod sucks.. why would I want one even free?
I prefer to have my Archos (http://www.archos.com) 20 Gb multimedia player.
-
man siaf, do you ever 'not' rain on someone's parade?
every response i see from you is pretty arrogant, but thats just my take. maybe people would get along with you better if you didn't act like your s**t didn't stink
but thats my opinion, of course
btw jay, that free ipod thing is such a gimmick.. you do get em but you gotta sucker your friends into the pyramid scheme. i ruined one of my email accounts by trying that before realizing what a sham it is. (and sponsored by some pretty legit companies, too)
just buy a damn ipod, apples dropping the price on em.. and in terms of mp3 players, ive tried both the nomad and ipod and the ipod does somehow have better sound quality, so thats what i bought. (even tho it *is* an apple product, which really makes me shudder)
-
Moose I'm sincerely sorry for daring to have an opinnion on this UBB.
However I try to keep my opinnions as factual opinnions. I'd never want to tie myself into a piece of hardware that does not support the pc platform.
Simply enough put?
Oh, and one thing: In life nothing is ever free. Especially the offers on the internet.
-
He's right though, Ipod's do suck.

well, you should do a little researching then.. ipods work fine on windows PCs. how do you think iTunes is the most popular online store in the world right now?
i dont mind when people state their opinions, but when its baseless then i find fault. kinda like how you dont own a ps2 yet you slammed on gt4.. seems kinda silly to me.
-
Does the media that you download through itunes work in hardware other than ipod?
Does ipod play wmv etc. files?
Not to my knowledge.
I slammed GT4? That's pretty far fetched. I told that I saw a gaming review that slammed GT4's physics when they compared it to Forza motorsports on Xbox.

not to nitpick here, but dont backtrack..

not supporting a platform is a completely different ballgame then having a proprietary file system. i'm not an ipod fanboi by any means, either. i'd rather it supported mp3s right out but i can understand why they force you to import into their software.. software which is fully compatible with winxp.. and i havent tried yet but i'd reckon that you prolly could import wma's into iTunes, too.
and not to nitpick some more.. but..

The graphics are amazing. Too bad it lacks the realism that would make this game an absolute winner. No damage modeling, arcade physics etc. I'm really tempted to get it but it's questionable if I'd ever bother to actually play it.
i'll give you the benefit here and say you really weren't slamming gt4, but at the same time your comments above dont make it clear you were mentioing a review until a couple posts later.. and then even later on you say that you'll 'never buy a ps2' because of the import costs.
i'm not trying to start a flame war but it just seems like you feel you need to add something or other to every bit of conversation on this board.. and until corrected, it's usually negative comments
but whatever, its a dumb message board so in the great scheme of things it really doesnt matter
-
Well moose, as far as I know, realism has always been _the_ issue with the whole GT series. This has been stressed with every review I've read of the series.
My opinnion has always been that graphics alone do not make a game, it must have good playability and some sort of realism to interest me.
So after seeing the hype and the graphics, the discovery of the lacking realism was a great let down - which is why I stated it was the only thing stoping it from becoming (and I quote myself) an absolute winner.
If that's a slam to you and if you really need to whine about it, suite yourself.

As what goes to Ipod, I will remain in my position of it.
I already own a $600 portable hd player, I'm not going to cash in Apple to buy thier hardware just to be able to use thier own non-standard media.
The Ipod can't even play back video for crying out loud. Not to mention all music files have to be converted to it. Not to mention you need to install Apple software on your puter to use it (which has nice side-effects such as W2k boxes not booting after installation etc.) So it simply sucks.
That's my opinnion, you won't change it and I will never purhase one or take it even for free.
-
Ya Ipods stink IMHO ..... get an open standard 'mp3' player.... should play nice thigns like SHN's and WAV's and even Mpegs are easy an nice .... they are free open standards unlike what apple is doing .....
sooner or later Ipod's will be trash noone wants... it's too bloody propreitary.
anyone see Blade 3 where the girl makes her Ipod list ....LMAO!
I really don't goto the movies to watch corprate comercials put in like that...
I don't like Ipod ... Apple is cool otherwise tho :D
-
I don't know where y'all got the idea that the iPod forces you to use iTunes to import music, that's not true. I've formatted my iPod as a FAT32 drive. When I plug it in, it shows up as an external hard drive, and I just drag and drop MP3s into it. It plays MP3s native just fine.
It's a nice player, not junk, but for best value/power, check out Archos.
-
I actually had two reasons why I wanted to rain on his parade.
First reason was that by screaming hell about free ipod's he probably lures more victims to the hands of different scam artists. Nothing on internet is free by rule of thumb. There are exceptions, but a few.
Even HTC:s 'free' 2 weeks won't be free because you'll get addicted and spend the next nights on the game. :lol
Second reason was that I detest any system such as ipod/itunes which attracts people into getting a piece of hardware that is not readily compatible with any standard format. I was surprised to hear you can actually reformat and use Ipod as a normal player. 99% of the owners won't know it or do it though.
Other vendors such as mentioned Archos can provide a way better compatability and capacity for practically the same price.

Just because some users won't know that they CAN do it shouldn't damn the hardware in the same way you would if it COULDN'T do it.
Part of buying an iPod is the style. Why do people buy Ferrari's when a Chevrolet will get them there equally as well, PLUS the Chevy has OnStar? Same applies here. The iPod has super slick usabillity (as evidenced by the massive adoption rate, even among technical novices) and a nice appearance. That counts for a lot more then 'Oh yeah, well the XYZ player has OGG Vorbis support' because it directly affects more people.
That said, I just advised my technical friend to get an AV420 while I told my sister to get an iPod. A generalization like 'iPods suck' doesn't really tell anyone anything and is verifiably untrue. If they sucked, they wouldn't sell. Is it possible that they aren't the right player for you specifically? Absolutely!
Absolutes are never accurate.
heh

Sorry to hijack, but I was looking into an Mp3 player.
What do you guys think between a Creative Nomad jukebox thingy player, and an Ipod?
All I really want to do is listen to music, to get rid of the clunky portable CD player.
I have XM radio in the car, so I don't really need to use it in the car.
-
What type of car? What kind of head unit do you have in your car? If you drive a BMW or have an Alpine head unit, there are reasons to check out the iPod because there are some really nice integration options.
The Creative Nomad is a great player too, longest living line of MP3 players on the market, if I recall correctly. I think it's bigger then the iPod, but unless you're putting it into a pocket on your spandex jogging suit, that might not be a problem. You should check it out in person, not just buy online, to make sure the size is what you expect.

'03 Pathfinder. I'm not big into sound systems for the car, so it just has factory speakers.
I've seen both of them, either one is fine with me. Just wondering what you think would be best suited for just using it listen to music. Bascialy, replacing a portable CD player.

For that, go with as cheap as you can get, they're all good. One feature I like in the iPod is the remote controls, eg, there's a fob on the headphones that you can use to go next, back, pause, etc. The Archos offers that as an add-on option (which also adds FM radio support, pretty neat), but I don't know about the Nomad and I'm too lazy to google it.

Actually, moose was wrong when he said you were forced to use their software to import. Does that cancel out your message?

I got the impression from his post that the files need to be converted to a proprietary format before being loaded onto the iPaq. Is that not the case?
-
Ipods are crippleware.
For example, the latest Ipod shuffle uses the same chipset as Creative MP3 players, it can have an LCD, FM Tuner, Record, and play WMA files... but Apple have enabled NONE of the features and charged more.
Then theres the whole battery issue on Ipods...

I assume you mean the iPod and not the iPaq (a pocket pc).
You do NOT need to convert the files to anything to play them in the iPod. Sony released a nice little MP3 player last year with one crippling flaw: it DID require that the files be converted. Not true with iPod, it plays MP3 and AAC natively.
It's a common misconception.

Which battery issue? The batteries can be replaced, any other MP3 player with built in battery has the exact same problem, and not all of them have a replacement scheme put together. The new Archos PMA400 series, for example, have built in batteries, I'm pretty sure. Not currently replaceable.
Can you provide some data to back up the 'shuffle has a bunch of turned off features' statement? I'd like to learn more, but Google didn't bring up any results to that effect when I looked a minute ago.

Yeah, iPod of course. Actually, until I read Moose's post, I thought the iPod was a pretty neat little device. Thanks for clarifying.
-
i wasn't aware that you could format it as a fat32 drive like that chairboy, that's pretty cool. does it still have the same menu system?
-
Yep, in fact it acts exactly like before. The firmware treats it transparently. Some real solid design work goes into everything Apple makes. That doesn't always mean that what they make is the best in all respects, but it's usually a damn sight better then most.
I'm of the opinion that Dell and Apple both have the best engineers in the computer biz. Taking apart either a Mac or some Del job, and it's immediately apparent that these guys are thinking on a bunch of levels. It wasn't always true, but that's how it looks now.

Its on cnet, someone stripped one down. It uses the same sigmatel chipset creative use.
I also sit between the Apple crowd and the Creative crowd in our office (Networking guys are used as a Neutral Zone). I see both products day in day out, the Creative stuff rocks... the Zen Micro blows the Ipods away .... especially with its user replaceable battery ;)
Ipods are OK, they're not bad, they're not the greatest either, they're extremely overrated by a bunch of fanatical luny apple followers is all.
