and wow talk about a difference it made.
smooth as a baby's butt now
give it a whirl

frame rate get a hit?
-
I could never, ever fly without AA. Jaggies are a curse!
-
I have a GeForce 5200 128MB PCI card.
2.2ghz celeron
80MB HD
512 MB RAM
would this anti alisasing work for me?
-
Couldnt hurt to give it a try. Even 2x helps.
-
where are the options in windows for this stuff?
-
what would be the more practical way to get a graphical improvement, up the resolution from 800 by 600 to 1024 by 768 or to use the anti aliasing.

Right-click your background -> properties -> settings -> advanced -> and then it depends on your card from there. You should have some card-specific tabs.

Definately use anti-aliasing. Resolution won't get rid of the jagged lines.

thanks plank
-
ill give it a try, the question was mainly for which one is more efficiant procesing wise. got about 30 fps so i dont have alot to play with.
-
wow works wonders, and still holds good frame rate, i have it set for 4x, and there is something called temporal inti iliasing turned on as well, anyone know what this is?
also do games have to be compatible with anti iliasing? seems ah works alot beter with it visualy.
-
all i can say is WOW!
no more jagged horizons
no more square wings at D400
no more fuzzy stuff
"I can see clearly now my anti aliasing is on! I can shoot all LA7s in my way!"

i use 1024x768 and 6x for my aa.
havent noticed frame rate drops, but i only tried it offline and while editing the film i made....last night..but god it sure looks alot better.
-
what about your AF setting?
should that still be disabled?
-
The thing about AA is that it will use a ton more video memory. The more smoothing done requires multiple textures to be drawn.
As for Anisotropic Filtering, Skuzzy has said it does nothing for AH and said to leave it disabled. But I have it set for 4x anyway.
-
i enabled it and notice a huge difference, ill try it in the ma tonight and see how it efshrecks lag and frame rates
-
does anti iliasing have to be supported by the game? i cant get it to work for some.
-
What brand/model video card do you have? Have the latest drivers installed?
Make sure you're setting Direct3D AA and not OpenGL.
Right click desktop > properties > Settings > advanced > (For ATI cards) Advanced 3D tab > Full Screen Anti Aliasing...
Amount of vidmem required varies directly with resolution and amount of AA. I think the max AA at 1280x1024 is only 6x, while the max at 1024x768 is 8x.
Dunno about your system, but give it a whirl. If it chokes, tune it down a notch.

Yes.

Just set it to application control. AH will leave it off by default. Some people can run it and it doesnt hurt, but others (like me) have some serious instability issues when using it in AH (doesnt happen all the time either).

I have a geforce 4. Mine dosnt go up to 6x but it goes to 4xS, whats that ? And is it worth a try ?

Vsync matches your frame rates to your monitor's refresh rate (or tries to anyway). It should be on.
-
ah i just had to set up the anti iliasing in Richtofens skies while in game.

I could be mistaken but I think the 4xS is a nvidia, proprietary setting for anti-aliasing. If it's what I'm thinking of it's what they suggest you use.

Yes, downloaded a new nvidia driver awhile back.

thats wierd 6x should kill your fps...sounds like 6x is also disabled, as it needs too much memory..........
i know some people found this with HL2, they couldnt run at x2, but x6 was really fast....but they didnt relise it had been forced to x0 since it had run out of memory.
-
Wait, where exactly is it located in the settings?
-
This is my setup. I have the Omega drivers installed. My card is an ATI X800.
