I just had some work done on my pipes in anticipation of the upcoming summer. Anyone else play anything?

You play bagpipes?
Man... that is just too friggin' cool.

Yeah it is, besides the 300 known species of fungus that live inside bagpipes. :)
I hear it's a tough job to keep it running.

Yeah, if you don't treat the bags they can get pretty nasty. The new bags aren't nearly as bad as the old leather ones.
It isn't so hard to keep it going. It's just practice, like anything else.

Funny looking bong. Quite good idea to let your friends have their own pipes :)

Martlet: will you be wearing your best plaid skirt as well? :)

Yeah, I'm not the least bit surprised.

Bagpipes are cool. Something I'd like to get into someday.
Any favorite songs, Martlet?

"Crossing the Rhine"
"Rowan Tree"
"Marie's Wedding"
Just to name a few.

Now, you absolutely must provide MP3. :)

Hey Martlet, I play pipes (just about 3 years)...
Shepard chanter, Canmor Goretex bag, I'll have to look at the drones...
I can only play for a minute or two before the stars start to jump around in my head. Too much pressure required to play. I'll have to learn more about the reeds.
I also play bluegrass banjo, (Gibson Mastertone with Scruggs tuners) and fool around on a classical guitar.

Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling.
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side.
the summers gone, and all the flowers are dying.
tis you, tis you must go and I must bide.
But come ye back when summers in the meadow.
or when the valleys hushed and white with snow
'Tis I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow
Oh Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so.

Nice! I may pick up a new set of pipes this year. The pipes in that picture are a set of Lawrie's that have been in my family for 3 generations. My practice chanter is a Lawrie as well. Beautiful pipes, but I'm afraid I'll ruin them by dragging them around New England.
That's a Canmore bag that I have, also. Nice bag. Beats the heck out of the old leather bags.
Keep practicing. It really doesn't require that much pressure, you just have to know how to do it. If you need new reeds, get a set of E-Zee Dronz. 65 bucks and you'll never have to buy new ones again.

I think its very cool that you play pipes. Definately something that I would like to learn how to play.
I do, on the other hand, "play" that stringed thingy...

I think we have different views of parades. Guys in kilts don't do much for me (but they're a hit in the outskirts of the Quarter- Elysian Fields area) . ...
