If this law passes in the states.
Contact your congressman.
http://ps2.ign.com/articles/592/592861p1.html
OTOH if some retard decides to install a machinegun to his ultra-light, they'll come screaming after HTC. Nothing is safe after this kind of legislation.
-
Thats daft.
-
just another step to a ZERO personal responsibility society screamed for by the left
-
Oh I don't think its the left. I think its the lawyers. That wonderful litiginous culture that means the Lawyers get fat while the law gets poor.
-
Funny, it doesn't say who sponsored the bill. If it had been 2 republicans, I think we would have seen it.

most lawyers = left

This is Washington State legislation.
What the game developers/distributors should do if this law is passed is pull all of their products from the shelves in the state of Washington. Then let the Wal-Mart lobbyists work to get the law repealed.
-
The bill is being sponsored by 2 democrats and 1 republican.

Stringer "Most lawyers = out for money. Left or right."
Yep thats about right.

Eagler, the bill is supported by a police officers' association- hardly a leftist orginazition.
-

This was a Sheriff's and Police Officers Association, Lazs. I worked with police and firefighters associations for over 15 years, and in my experience the membership (police officers) tend to be more conservative than the mainstream population.
Anyway read the article and you'll see it's bipartisan...which doesn't matter much if it's Democratic, Republican or Bipartisan stupidity, it's still a dumb idea.
-
Ok... and, I agree... it is a dumb idea. I like people on an individual basis but I sure hate mobs.. governements are mobs in my opinion as are "groups". They are happiest when they are telling others what to do. ecstatic when allowed to and not made to follow their own rules.

BTW, I can't wait for a lawyer to try to convince a jury his client committed murder because of a video game. Maybe in Ess Eff it might fly, or maybe up here in the heart of California Communism, but certainly not anywhere else in America will that crap fly.
Oh, another BTW- The draft I helped write limiting aggressive panhandling is now a city ordinance. Of course the ACLU will probably defend the first derelect cited, but we're beginning to see a bit of a backlash from those of us tired of the marriage between big business and big government (it's called Communism).
Walmart gets free land to put in a superstore and their neighbor gets cited for cutting down a tree without the proper permit.
-
well.... Not sure about that but... cutting down the tree in your yard doesn't bring in any money to the city coffers.. A wall mart, even in my tiny little town, brings in several million a year. Even if you gave em the land and cut their taxes a bit you would still be making money on em so... in that respect... they are doing the "giving".

Topic: Eagler's Philosophy.........
As Most Lawyers are to the Left
For Eagler is to what?
A. Propaganda Engine
B. Borderline Facist highballed on Tampa's abundant methane supply.
C. Partisan Hack
D. All of the above..
DoctorYo
"The correct answer is D; all of the above."
PS On a serious note this law will never pass....
-
Lazs, your problem is that you were never taught to hate corprate America...I'm afraid your 1960s High School Civics teacher failed you, bud.
:)
-
Oh... I hate corprate America but... there are more important (to me) demons to fight. I can at least make use of corprate America... I have yet to find a use for the nannies in my life.

They could help look after your kids if you got any
Oh wrong kind of nannie!

The liberals in this country have been making the same arguments against movies and television since I was old enough to reach the channel dial. I remember a particularly rediculous claim that the "Road Runner" cartoons were encouraging youths to act violently against others.
Since they've had no luck going after TV and movie makers, it was only a matter of time before they tried this against video game makers.
What is the battlecry of the modern American citizen? "I'll sue!"
-
I have never had a problem finding women to look after my kids. My biggest problem is getting them to not try to look after me.

LOL So it's the liberals behind the current crackdown by the FCC since the Janet Jackson boob flash, eh?
You need to look before you bleat.

Whats this thing against liberals! over here they are the party mid way between (supposedly left) and Conservative ( right )

Might as well hold the drug producers liable of crimes allegedly commited due to drugs. It's never the end users fault.
...or how about holding IRS liable for tax frauds due to high taxes? :D
-
Nah Fishu it's way more easyer to sue every gamehouse on the planet that ever made games that feature drug usage.
-
We need a game called LAWYERGEDDON!!! Points are accumulated based on the number of lawyers shot, stabbed, run over and dismembered. I LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
-
You'd get sued before it's released.

I'm working on a game where you bury your anger and hatred deep down inside your inner self until you gain enough points to hire out to murder the object of your hatred.
I call it "Second Person Killer"
A random number generator will choose one out of every 10,000 to actually occur in the real world.

can we reenact any real world contract killing with it?

It'll never go through. No matter how much they may want to say the games teach kids violence it still doesn't teach them how to use weapons. Nor does it give them the ability to acquire these weapons for use.
If they believe that games do such a thing then you'll also see majority of television stations banned or unable to show certain shows (including theatres), paint ball banned, airsoft banned, military flight simulators banned, boxing banned, football banned, baseball banned, wrestling banned and the list can go on and on. Every one of these subjects listed above show some type of violence in them. Some show more than others but none the less they all have violent backgrounds to them.
Heck they'll even start banning some cartoons. Some which have been around for ages that depict some kind of violent act no matter how subtle it may be. Frying pans over the head, trying to run characters over in some type of vehicle, or last but not least using bombs or firecrackers against a foe. Stuff like this comes right out of Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse, and the Wiley Coyote cartoons.
If these folks had an open mind and looked at this whole violence thing across the whole spectrum then they'd see just how ridiculous they're acting. It's simply amazing to see how much money is wasted on ludicrous accusations such as this. I guess we better ban teaching history in school since it teaches us just how violent we have been in the past. Kids may get the idea of trying to start their own revolutionary war or something.
-
This is just another example of parents that are too lazy to raise their own kids and want the goverment to do their job for them. As a person who works in the gaming industry, I find it very amusing that we are held resposible for what is basically the parent's job. All this crap you hear about 'family values' begins at home and it's time the parents get off their lazy tulips and exercise some parental responsibility.
ack-ack
-
"LAWYERGEDDON" and "Second Person Killer" are both multi-million dollar ideas.

Reinactments of historical real world contract killings are ineligible for the lottery function of the 'game'.
-
cobra.. give em enough time and they will ban all those things... It comes from not ending womens suffrage.
skydancer... I have no idea where you come from but if it is england then your conservatives are like our black female liberals.

Is there any proof, and I mean scientifically, double-blind, controlled proof, that violent video games leds to physical real world violence?
What about television? Lot's of violence there too.
What about if you live in the 'hood? Lot's of violence there also.
If you and I get into a fight and you hit me can I sue a FPS game company because you play one of their games?
Instead of going after the company (which has probably very little impact on the kids but lots of money) people should be looking at the parents (who should have lots of impact on the kids but have very little money).
When parents stop letting television and computer games raise their kids then the kids will probably behave quite a bit better.
-
Heck they'll even start banning some cartoons.
they have banned a few bug bunny cartoons allready..the ones that have anything to do with race issues..indians..africans and so on...i dout this law will pass...just one of them stupid laws to pop up..remmeber when they were tring to pass a law to charge us long distance for being online? hehe that bill sure dissapeard fast,,hehehe

Any chance this is a responce to the recent SCOTUS ruleing against the death penalty for 17 year olds?
