And all the experts have said for a few months that its gonna be alot more exciting this season.... we will see.
The qualifying sure looks promising tho with my fav team AND driver on top :)

I suppose it rained?
-
dont think so. ferrari has not done well at all in training sessions before this season.....or the others have done alot better. we will see
-
It started to rain like crazy after Fisichella.
-
oops... didnt know that.
or are you pulling my leg? :D
-
Fissi was the only one who really got a dry track...
Just as Massa went out it started to rain (again) after the track had dried out, and everyone was switching from intermediate/wets to slicks, Massa got caught out in slicks...Schuey just managed to switch to the inters but as he went out but it absolutely bucketed down. They red flagged quals after Massa just pulled off the track and Micheal just coasted around because of the torrential downpour.
After Quals restarted, the track was wet and there was slight rain, but no-where as bad as when Massa and Schumacher went out

I've been waiing for this season to begin, I do not care for NASCAR. I was fortunate as a kid (12) to see Ayrton Senna here Detroit. Formula 1 is my fav.

Well with Schumacher that far back at least this race will see some passing. I'll be watching simply to see if there is racing.
Don't get me wrong. Those cars are the best in the world, and the drivers are the best in the world. The F1A just has no idea how to take them and make them into the best racing series in the world.

Has the second qualifying session been completed?

No, but I doubt it will change anything as the times are added together.
-
i think the 2005 season will be interesting to watch, lots of
new young drivers!
I hope Schumacher M. gets his 8th World Champion title! tho :D
The qualify yesterday was pure gambling because of the weather,
maybe we see today at Q2 where every team really stands.
-
The new Indian driver looks promising.
Was very pleased with what I saw of the McLaren boys through the practise and 1st qualifying. I think this is McLarens year.... a solid, fast car and the #2 and #3 drivers (IMO, anyway).
Im still really steamed about the rule changes... the tire's being at the front of that list... but it should be an interesting first half of the season before the engineers are able to bring everything back to where it was.
I think Michael would do well to get used to this view for the next several weeks. ;)

Minardi decided to race in the courts...
"If Australian laws and procedures do indeed allow a judge to act in this way, it will be for the World Motor Sport Council to decide is a world championship motor sport event of any kind can ever again be held in Australia."
The nerve of FIA... If that's the way they think about the Aussie courts, the US GP is now under threat.
-
Holden the ruling was quite irrational. Logically the teams could get a court ruling that they could use any technology which was outruled by FIA. Brake assist, steer assist, active telemetry, adjustable downforce, active suspension, ESP, larger wings, turbos..
If the judges set rules, no civil court should interfere with it. It's sports for crying out loud.

What kind of horrible human being are you that you want the GPAustalia contested on the track and not in the courts?

Obviously not a Gore voter.

F1 = Over priced procession of carbon fiber! No overtakes and hell you can only see the drivers head!

i like to watch Moto GP too, but compared to the F1 qualy times in Donington
they end up looking like oldtimers ;)
Moto Gp aprox = 1min 33 secs
Formula 1 aprox = 1min 10 secs
-
motogp drivers, ski jumpers and jockeys all have one thing in common
they are tiny people
-
Motorcycle racing has more lead changes in 1/2 a lap than an entire F1 season.
-
ofcourse
tiny people can easyer sneak ahead of others

If the season is just starting, then they should be declaring Schumacher Champion within a day or two, right?

We will see a lot of this happening during the season. The teams are allowed to use a fresh engine in the next race if they don't finish.
-
Heh so schumi forced the williams on the grass on purpose to cause reason to quit.

I didn't watch the race. I don't think they need to provide a specific reason for quitting in order to change the engine.
-
driving off the track and getting stuck is not enough reason to get new engine... you have to retire properly to get one. heidfelt wont get a new one unless he managed to get back on the track.
I like all the new rules, it made the race more interesting imo.
-
They should reduce downforce significantly and have proper slick tires. Now that the tire compound is even harder this season overtaking might be even more difficult.

Button and Sato both pulled into the BAR garages on the last lap....Bar can claim they retired DNF and bingo...new engines. Just as Micheal was able to get going after the accident between himself and Heidfeld and pulled straight into the Ferrari garage. It's going to be pointless if top running teams with virtually no hope of points can just DNF for new engines.
I think the new rules are pointless...no tyres and 2 race engines aren't gonna do squat imo to lower the huge amounts of costs, because the top teams still spend huge amounts (or get the tyre manufacters) to make up the speed. The new rules have only cost 1 1/2 secs to lap times, and that will be made up once teams settle in with aero changes and modifications.
The new Quals did produce a really good race, with great results for RBR, and Renault - but the weather that caused it won't be in every race. I still prefer the old Qualification set-up.

No matter what the starting positions was, the laptimes were closer than it has been in years, and the new rules may or may not have had a huge impact. Gonna become clearer when ferrari gets their 2005 car ready in about a month +-.
Im optimistic tho, and i feel that this is gonna be a real close season. That would benefit everybody including ferrari. At this point it would even benefit ferrari if they didnt win any titles this year.

-tronski-,
a way around the engine change could be as NASCAR does > change an engine, go to the rear of the field, no matter what your qualifing time is.
mora,
Agree. Get rid of all those extra little wings. How did you like those antlers?

You have a reading comprehension problem? Me knows so.

The whole problem with F1 is that they (FIA) are taking the sport
backwards.
It is obhorrant to "slow" down race cars.
I mean aint that some sort of contridiction?
I thought the whole Idea of F1 was to make the fastest most technical form of motor racing amd I wrong?
Let technology progress in F1 .

If you do change an engine during a race weekend, you are penalised to the back of the grid. However the loophole remains that for a failure the previous race there is no penalty. And well there shouldn't be, engines fail - thats part of the sport.
I personally don't like the new 2 race engines, and the no tyre changes rules, and I'm going to like the soon to be v8 engine rule even less

And you are left with maybe 3 or 4 teams that can afford to race. Do you think that would be fun?
-
They want to slow down the cars for security reasons too. Speeds are getting dangerously high even with all the regulations slowing the cars down.
-
Im new to F1, only started watching because of these threads. Thought it was a good race.
TEAM MCLAREN!!!

Well if you cant afford to field a team then thats your problem as I see it.
And it ain't the money issue any way its the FIA trying to make racing safer and I agree with that but I am also saying let technology make racing safer not neutering the cars.
-
Tronsky,
Opps, I should have said 'any time' an engine is changed 'before 2 races are completed'.

yeah, and a problem for the viewers. who would want to see 3 teams race achother? the sport would die. it would be like nascar with 3 teams, how fun would that be?
