Title: USGolfer
Post by: Stang on March 06, 2005, 01:30:00 AM
Worked for an hour and a half with Jim Flick today up at Desert Mountain.  By far the best teaching pro I've run across, I got more accomplished in that brief time than I have in the last 2 years of beating balls on the range lol.  You still in Vegas?

Still here.  I'm sitting in the office waiting to go on the flight for my CFI-Single Engine add-on flight.  Just finished the oral and he's up now with another guy.  I leave tuesday at 1am.  I was supposed to be here until thursday but I'm done early and am ready to go home.  I've had no sense of time other than "tomorrow" in fact I didn't know today was sunday.  Anyways...I'm going but will be back.  Straiga invited me to fly with him for a while with the aeromedical outfit in AZ he flies for as well so I'll probably be back in the summer before I move to Kentucky.

I'd like to play some golf while I'm here but I just want to get home.  I can honestly say that I'm worn out both from lack of sleep and huge-ness of the buffet's :)

The water cooler is empty, the office with a soda machine is closed and the AC thermostat is locked in the main office so it's hot.  What a way to go.

Redtop, which hybrids did you get?  Curious because I was looking at trying them as I know a lot of guys are switching to them.  Any recommendations?

I bought the "2 Iron" and "3 Iron" 18* and 21*

I got em from a shop here called Golf Etc. They were 79.00 a piece with Dynamic Gold S300 shafts.

They are from Wishon Golf.
http://www.rjclubmaker.com/TW321Li.htm

I have played with them 3 rounds now. I hit the 2 iron much higher than my Cleveland long irons. My distance is about 230 max with the 2 iron and about 215 with the 3 iron. Thing is I get em in the air EASY. I mean I hit em like I used to in my "Younger" days.

ex. We have a par 5 at the club I belong to. 535 yrds. Now when I hit a GOOD drive I can have 5 or 6 iron to the green since it plays down hill some. The 2nd shot has to be hit pretty high if your on the right part of the fairway so you can carry some large cottonwoods on the bank of a river that runs in front of the hole.

It was into the wind the other day and I didn't hit it all that great off the tee. Not to mention the 3 inches of rain we have had. I hit the 2 iron from 215 into the wind and got it over the cottonwoods with room to spare and hit it in the middle of the green. Sat down and hardly moved.

I hit it on several of the tighter par 4's off the tee. The 3 iron is just as solid and I hit it just as high.

I hit my 3 wood about 250 or so , so this 2 iron has fit right into the scheme of my bag. I carry 3 wedges.

Hybrids are really nice and I am glad that I got em. It didn't take long hitting them that I got ove the "Old Man" feeling.

Give em a try. Hit a few different ones. I tried some demos in these and really liked them alot. They seem as solid as the sonartec's that I was thinking about getting.

If Vigay can carry a 7 wood and 9 wood....Who am I to argue.
:aok :lol

OH I don`t know if I can release all the specific details to the public in general. :D
Since I am the inventor of the original ChiggerFlickeromatic I would just say that it is an automated device for the removal of pesky chiggers leaving your hands free to scratch other , more deserving, parts of your body at leisure. :D
Now.... The Secret Society of The Chigga Flicka....well that`s a whole different thing that can only be discussed under Funk and Wagnalls porch during the dark of the moon.

I actually won some hybrids irons at some charity thing last summer. At first I thought what the hell am I gonna do with these goofy lookin irons. Set in my garage still in the box for a month. One day I took them to the driving range & WOW. Now have a set of Pings in the garage right next to the DCIs.

I hit each iron 10 to 15yrds longer, and my misses are way better. Huge diff. in 3-5 irons. In fact, I use to rarely use 3 & 4 irons, preferred 5 wd, now the 5wd is out of the bag.

Ones I have are made by some company out of IL named vulcan.
Think there website is http://www.vulcangolf.com or something.

Need your inputs;

I use my one iron (Callaway) off tee on short par 4s and doglegs.... Approx 230 yards.... And good lies.... You think hybreds are easier to hit? Is the loft the thing?.... I guess I'll have to try them once Im healed.

for me, they are more forgiving, and yes, i do get good loft from them, but i always had good loft before....i been thinking of getting them reshafted to have stiff tip to keep loft down.

Go to your local golf shop where you can try a demo. I would encourage you to give them a try.

Shot 66 today...hit the driver 2 times...3 wood once. Hit the 2 iron Hybrid on the rest of the Par 4's. really just to see how it works. As you can see....worked just fine.:aok

Dangit RedTop ya got me by two today hehe.  Mine was in an event tho  :p

Hybrids are definately easier to hit and are the way to go unless you can hit the long irons consistently well.

Edit: You must have been playing from the ladies tees only having to hit hyrbids off every hole

:D

Thanks for the tips on the hybrids guys...  I play blades currently, and I can smoke the 3 and the 4, but I'm eyeing those hogan hybrids.  I will definetely look at the ones you guys recommended as well.  I'll see how I hit um.

Ah dude Hogan makes the best if you like more of a look of a wood.  You can flat out rip those things and have no fear.
