I have been bothered by a question that has haunted me for some time now.......... a while back I was in a 163 in TA, and managed to get the craft to 90K, actually a little higher and thence the question.
The instant I passed the 90K alt the aircraft simply disapeared, ceased to exist as a visible object, although I was still there and still in control of a now non existent plane.
Im just wondering what is happening in this situation, is it due top program code that sets an alt limit on all planes etc thus when that limit is exceeded( since the craft doesnt exist in code after this point) the vehicle simply disapears? Or has it something to do with the transition from airspace to actual space at 90K? Thus also renderig the physicalness of the plane non-exiztent.
Just a buggy question, all answers and speculations would be appreciated.

More to the point might be they never got that high so why worry whats programmed at the outer limits of the arena?
The altitude thought is almost the same as saying, "is there an end to the distance you can travel off the map?" Why would you wanna do that or care? It's a game that doesn't require we need to know that. :)

you died from lack of oxygen and sufficient pressurization and now exist in a state of purgatory.

you entered a worm hole and were lucky to get back alive.

I noticed that the fuel calculation gets messed up above 50k, as well as indicated and true airspeed are equal all of a sudden.
I would say the arena ends at 50k asl, up to 90k is only some safety margin.

Whether its required or not seems unimportant, a question is a question and, as I said, I was just curious. I like the answer Shane posted...thats gotta be it :D
