Bono may head World Bank
Front man of Irish U2, rock idol and social activist Bono may become the next to head World Bank, U.S. Treasury Secretary John Snow has said on ABC's ‘This Week.’ Snow said that he wouldn't rule out Irish rock star as a potential successor to current World Bank President John Wolfensohn.
Wolfensohn is leaving the post June 1, and U.S. Treasury Secretary considers that Bono has got the right background for such a job: ‘He's somebody I admire. He does a lot of good in this world of economic development.’
This year Bono is nominated for Nobel Peace Prize for his initiative in writing off the debts of Third World countries as well as support of anti AIDS campaign.
'I suppose I could tell you about some of the people I've met in the last year. There's the powerful ones - politicians, business men, bankers - with that look in their eye, a kind of wary recognition,' group’s official Web site http://www.u2.com cited Bono describing his year in politics.
‘Then there's the powerless ones, dying, sick, starving in vast numbers, silent, compliant. I can't begin to describe the look in their eyes. But it's a habit I have, looking people in the eye, and it gets me into a lot of trouble...’

Is he qualified at all to do this?
-
Ya don't you know the world likes it when rock stars tell every one. to give money to the 3rd world for free... They even give you nobel prize for that.

According to economic leaders who have met him, he is a remarkably intelligent and practical man with a world-class understanding of monetary and macroeconomic policies and effects. He could be the poster boy for not judging a book by it's cover. Interesting guy.
-
He would be great for the job. Are they not also thinking about that woman that recently ran HP? Cant remember her name atm.
-
Is it gonna get drive through ATM's?
-
Bono surprised me when I saw him on the O'reily factor right around convention time.
The guy didn't take sides (even if he used to) he was real adiment that the work/charity he does is not political. The man impressed me by some of the lengths he's gone to help people. Kinda like walking the walk.

I'm not saying that he doesn't do good work, but to be head of the World Bank requires a certain level of Banking and Global Economics knowledge and education. I'm sure he's pretty good businesswise...he'd have to be, but Head of the World Bank?

I think the trick is to surround yourself with capable people.
I think that even if you are a complete dimwit, by surrounding yourself with good capable people, you could even try at doing something way beyond your mental pay grade.
If Bono surrounds himself with good capable people, and if Arnold gets rid of that silly little rule and also surrounds himself with good capable people..... well then... we could be lookin' at an '08 spectacle that would make Vince McMahon start randomly firing people for not coming up with it first.
-
That "silly little rule" would require an amendment to the Constitution. Not a short process by any means. I doubt Arnold would live to see it pass... if it did.
-
Truth!
Hmm...
What if they went all bamboozle-mode and made it a "hot" issue?
Ya never know.... mmm?

Would this also be true if he were a legacy 'c' student from Yale?

I don't know what you're talking about.

Mick Jagger is more qualified, he has a degree from the London school

I doubt if Bono would take the job. But I dare say he could do it. At that level it's all about the maintaining the big picture and inspiring the capable people around you. All top level jobs are like that.
He has the ear of the American president, whichever one is in power. Although he did admit once that George W had to bang the table and tell him to 'Shut up' when Bono was ranting on at him. He's clearly highly capable and probably if he wasn't a rock star would have been something in politics or business. But unless it's really more of a figurehead job I really doubt he'd have the time. Interesting idea though.

then its important to surround yourself with people who only say "yes"

"Do you mind if I smoke?"
"Yes."
Hey, that works well Pongo.
If Micheal Bolton can be appointed UN Ambassador, I don't see why Bono as World Bank President is out of line.
