Yeah those are from Gran Turismo 4 on the PS2.

You can plug in a USB storage device like the 256 meg memory card key chains into the PS2 USB port and save the images.

The game has a photomode, you can take pics of the car you currently have selected. Has a bunch of places to take the pics and you can move the car and cam around etc.

Nuch
The Cuda is cool, I am still playing with the suspension to get it to handle better. It is OK now, but not the best.  730 HP on that car with all the addons!

yeah i saw those, never read the manual LOL

this is my first real time getting into a console game.

can you save games on the USB sticks instead of the memory cards?

in GTASA you get a camera, wondering if those can be saved on usb too.

you can either go for a 'photo drive' or if you save a replay and go look at it from the theater, then the 'select' button lets you take camera shots with a bit more options then the normal photo shoot mode

That Z06 is at the Monterey Historics every year, driven by one of Vic Edelbrock's daughters IIRC.
They did a really great job on the historic sports/racing cars in this game, gotta love it.

I read if you have a fast car for the 1000 mile races and other 24 hour races you can put your car on B-spec and set it to Cruise and you should win.  I read that the 1000 mile race takes 7-8 hours to finish it.   I think once i get there i will set the B-spec and head to work.  Let it run all day while i earn real money :)

My fav cars other then the ones shown here are the 05 mustang GT and the Ford GT.

Also i raced against a 65 shelby mustang....... WHRER CAN I WIN THAT CAR!   it was the third race in the hotrod race under the USA racing forum.

Here's the link for what race wins what car:
http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/driving/granturismo4/hints.html (http://)

B-mode isn't the best idea on a race where you have pit stops. Yes, it does work, but whenever your car enters the pits, it drops you out of the map mode (and 3x speed) back to the regular viewing mode. If you're not there to hit buttons, it stays in regular view mode, at the normal time rate. The Nurburgring 24 hours isn't a distance race, so you'd have to leave your playstation running in B-spec for 24 hours to get the car.

Yep no skid marks.
You can do smokey burnouts pretty easily though.  Just turn off all the driving aids, make sure you have simulation tires (Economy, Comfort, or Road), then hold the brake, floor it, release brake.  :)

Anybody else unlock the Polyphony Formula Gran Turismo '04 yet? It's amazing. You can't buy anything for it. It can't run down my R8 in a straight away... but at around 140, when the downforce really starts to take effect... it's amazing. Nothing corners like this car. I laid down a 6 minute Nurburgring run in it.. and the Formula race in the extreme category... 6 perfectly matched cars... lots of laps... gotta be the most fun races in the game (for me at least!).

I can hear the sound OK in the A310.  I'll drive my A110 and check that too.
Check in your options and make sure you have Stereo sound instead of Dolby Prologic II (unless you have a Prologic reciever).

Will check, thx Funked.

I like driving the M3, contrary to most FR cars in GT4, you can bring the rear back by accelerating, not braking. The only thing is that you need to "launch the rear" with the handbrake  to oversteer, it doesn't do it when u push it in a curve like real FR cars.

The driving physics in GT4 are funky.:o

Have you tried fiddling with the brake balance controller? You should be able to move the bias forward. When you brake hard, the nose drops more, throwing the car's balance onto the front wheels & giving them more grip. The lighter rear end should swing around just fine after that.

Or maybe it's just something really wierd about the M3 :)

Frenchy, do you have driving aids off, and sim tires (N1, N2, or N3)?
Are you playing with a controller or a wheel?
I'm pretty sure it dumbs down the physics if you are playing with a controller.

*Edit* Dumbs down is the wrong term.  It just filters your inputs to make them smoother.

Post by: FUNKED1 on March 10, 2005, 01:22:29 PM
OK I tested it, and yeah it doesn't want to hang the tail out very much.  They are either simulating a very "stiff" limited slip or the suspension is just set up to understeer.
Title: GT4 Favorite cars thread! (bigpics)
Post by: FUNKED1 on March 10, 2005, 01:27:52 PM
Frenchy put Economy tires on the rear, and you can buy me a drink in May.  :)

*EDIT* Put Economy tires on both ends.  If you mix compounds you get unbelievable oversteer, worse than A310.  :)

Funked, did you do anything to the wheel? My first impression were it sucked.

Maybe it was the courses I chose, but on the tracks with lots of tight 180 hairpins, (15 to 20 mph ones), I would get the wheels over and then not be able to get them back the other direction in time without hitting the wall unless I stopped.

Part of it is the table was not all that sturdy, but the other was the force feed back resistance and it just did not feeel right.

What am I doing wrong or am I a tard? Its the logitech force feedback one.

GTO it's like that in real life if you take hairpins.  You have to crank that wheel.
Get a sturdy table for sure.
Your wheel is the Driving Force Pro right?  Has the big aluminum center with "GT" on it and fake screw heads?

If you want less force then just do this:  Hold down "select", "R3" and the left paddle (downshift thingy on the back face of the wheel".  The left LED will blink once to indicate reduced force.  To put it back to full force, just repeat the button press combo and it will blink twice.

lol this sounds dumb, but What button is R3?

I will give that a try and it is the Driving force pro, and damnit I want it to work cause I want to be able to control the throttle. the all off or all on sucks, lol.

For the most part, yeah, depends on the car though. On longer races in any rear wheel drive car, I like a softer compound up front. It gives you more even wear throughout the laps and actually negates handling problems. On the R8 (yeah, I know, rocket car, but I drive it alot), super-hard rear & hard front will give you 4 full laps on Nurburgring with even wear. When all 4 tires go red, you'll be on the last dot of gas, right in front of the pit :)

Yes I have all the driving aids off. I don't know what the simulation tires are, I have: economy, sport, race, dirt and snow.

What I'm talking about on the oversteering is the following. On the rear wheel drives I owned, lastly the Firebird, when I loose grip on the rear wheels in a turn, I accelerate to regain control.

In GT4, you need to brake to regain control. In real life, if I brake I'm up for a fun ride into the ditch.

Moreover, from factory setting, most FR cars will not oversteer when taking a sharp curve with the foot to the floor. Real life counterparts do.

What's what I meant by "funky driving physics".

(I'm doing the missions to drive the Tank ... looks hot):)

Put economy tires on and they will oversteer plenty.

I think all the cars in GT4 have ABS "installed" on them by the program.  So it makes sense that braking would stabilize things.

As far as using the throttle, I find it responds naturally to balance the car.  I think what might be missing for you is the "seat of pants" feeling that lets you judge how much throttle to use?

Also if you are using the controller it's a big difference between on/off button and a real throttle pedal.

GT350R rocks, it handles very nice and with some upgrades competes well with Modern cars.

I had to remove some of the older ones.

Yes I know I could make them smaller but I dont have image editers at work.

So, aside from all the cool cars, what kinda times are y'all laying down? I've got all the cars I wanted, got the Force Pro steering wheel, and sat down and started learning the tracks inside & out last night. Can't remember my full Motegi & Leguna Seca times, but I'm down to 0:59.871 on Fuji 80's in the Formula car, with an average of 1:00.873 with an automatic & 1:01.402 average with manual.

Have not paid that much atention to the times lol. I will check.

Only ones I can remember are
1:45 Laguna Seca, '02 WRX STi, Stock, N3 Tires.
8:19 Nordschleife, same car.
1:05 Tsukuba, same car.
(Interesting to note that Nakaya did 1:05.9 in the same car at Tsukuba on Best Motoring.)

I don't drive the UFO type 10000bhp cars.  With the poor resolution and iffy race tire model I just leave it to the B-Spec dude so I can drive the ones that interest me.  Fat drivers, skinny tires, not the other way around.  :)
I will get that F1 car soon though, and post some times.

Or maybe it's just something really wierd about the M3 :)

OK I have to get nerdy on you for a minute, sorry.  :)
Brake bias actually has no effect on load transfer.  The brake bias effect is based on the concept of the traction circle.  By increasing the brake bias towards one end of the car, you put those two tires further "down" on the circle under braking, which means they will have less lateral force available for cornering.
To get understeer you move the bias forward, to get oversteer you move it backwards.

Also everybody BUY A 427 COBRA.
Get the Shelby one not the AC one.  For some reason the engine sound is borked on the AC version.
Anyways the engine sound, handling, acceleration, are awesome.  You can snap that thing sideways on the power in all 4 gear.  Really fun to enter that car against modern day supercars.  40 year old American technology beating up the modern boys.  :)

Hmm LoL do the AC version handle any different? I went with it cause you could chose the color.

I love the GT350R. It did well agaist all the modern cars on the mini ring.

The 63 Vette race car on the other hand, I just cant get it to handle.

I think after playing with the settings the Charger handles better then the vette.

The AC and Shelby versions felt about the same.  I don't know why they made two versions in the game.  The originals were only made in one place and AC had nothing to do with the car by that time.  260 and 289 Cobras had some AC parts but 427 was 100% Shelby American.  Maybe one is supposed to be the reproductions they built in the 1990's?

I wish they had a 289 version it would have been fun.

Right on. thx for the brake bias info. it's one of those settings I rarely fiddle with. I just want my car superglued to the track. :)

Roomate pulled a 6:11 on Nordschleif w/ the Formula (no upgrades for it, so medium race tires only). Took awhile to get the 7th gear set right, tops at 218. I'll post the ratio for it when I get home. I haven't been able to match his time on long tracks, but I just don't have the attention span for it.

Here here.:aok  UFOs scare me, but Sartres justifies them ... 240+ in the straight hanging at the wheel is priceless.
