Is that the one where they do episodes on the Longbow, Shield, Armor and the like? If so, yeah it's a great series. Not sure it's worth almost $70 though.
Edit: Oh wow there's 15 episodes? Dang they've only played 3 or 4 that I've seen on this side of the pond. That does seem like a good deal for that many episodes Hairpie.

This would be fascinating stuff I bet. So much history... how did the get it in 15 episodes?
-
I saw the one about the Battle of Hastings and what happened afterwards.
Those Normans were BRUTAL! The Tapestry even documents thier attrocities and I've actually seen that, but ignored the pictures of soldiers implaing babies on the ends of their swords etc.
Amazing series.

Its 960 minutes, so 16 hours worth.
I have only seen a couple of them, it just seems a really good set to have.

I'm part MacGregor, I'm aware of some of the "Grand British History".

Furball, if you like the DVD's you should read the books they're based on...
Simon Schama's "A History of Britain." It's a three volume set, first one convers the early days, Rome, the dark ages, onward, etc... Not sure of its sub-name (lost the book jacket)
2nd one is "The Wars of the British - 1603-1776"
3rd one is "The Fate of Empire 1776-2000"
I know, it's not as interesting as the TV series, but there's a lot of cool information in there... Particularly about the Roman Invasion/Conquest and Churchill.
As per your question though, I'd consider buying it myself... You can't really go wrong for that much bang for 35 quid.

You're thinking of "The Weapons that Made Britain" or something of the like with that crazy-nasty-bad-arse sword/shield/pike/you-name-it-he'll-kill-you-with-it fellow. Also a pretty decent series.

Is that the series with Mike Loades, vudak? He's great! extremely enthusiastic about weapons and fighting, he's on the latest series of time commanders too. I recently watched a TV programme which he trained 4 guys to joust in a medieval tournament using real lances. One guy even took a lance to the helmet and didn't feel a thing. It was really good.:)

harrrr ... it's Normand not Norman !
We live in Normandie not Normanie

Mike Loades, yep, that's the guy!
He's basically the Crocodile Hunter of medieval weapons. It's also interesting how he dispells some of the old myths... He literally threw himself from a charging horse just to prove a knight with armor could get up afterword.

That's the bald english dude? I like him. I like him a lot.
Oh baby.

Had Britain never developed the boat the world would be a better place.

Possibly but then americans would all be somewhat different!;)

You're right- collectively we'd be more attractive and have better teeth.
FWIW I don't have English blood in my veins, so it wouldn't affect me.

:lol :lol :lol
Fair answer!
Though the descendants of the pilgrim fathers might disagree.
