The new Americans give me a lot of hope for the country...
Well... living in California most of my life and living in a farm community a lot of it.... I ahve allways been around Mexicans farmworkers and Americans of mexican decent. The illegals have allways been kinda crappy for the most part... They start out illegal and then have a real attitude of "who cares" dump garbage in ditches, trash houses, drunk driving drugs etc... more so than the norm. Not all by any means but a lot of em..
Still... the legals and first generation Americans have allways seemed like hard working decent folk to me. I have allways had good exchanges with em. Sheesh... even sleep with one. My grand daugter is half mexican. The news and media do make it look like they are all gang members tho. I know it is BS but you do see it from time to time.
last election... well.. last election proved they were the type of people I thought they were and for the most part they turned out to vote against pasty face white liberal womanly crap. More than I can say for some races.
Well... went shooting with a couple of first generation American families this weekend... wanted to teach my girlfriend how to shoot the K22 Smith that she has claimed is now hers..
Man.. these people have great family values and aren't afraid of guns. Women have their role and men have theirs. Guns are recreation, protection and a representation of freedom to them.
The mexican American politicians, gang bangers and illegals have nothing in common with what I like to think is the real core group of hard working first and second generation Americans that I run into.

When I saw the thread title, I thought this thread was going to be about alternative forms of capital punishment. :lol
How is smml ?

I agree too.
How long do you think it is going to take for a PC person to come in and call you a racist though?
Pink shorts seems to have a hardon for you on that one.

I have worked with and known many such individuals.
Truely fine people, with high morals and stronge values
One did have some problems with his treatment in the past. And I do not blame him considering what happened to him. Happened in the 50's. Seems he was told by an inidvidual at his school, a employee there, that he was not to fight with the "red blooded American boys". This to a young man/boy who's father had served this nation in WWII with distinction I should add. He was deeply offended at his exclusion. Again I don't blame him. I believe I would react in the same manner.
He and I discussed the illegal problem once. At first he was very defensive when I said it seemed the illegals were causing allot of trouble, he even got a little angry. I asked him to just look at the crime reports in the paper and read the names of the people committing the crimes. And please do it for a week or even a month. I further added that I did NOT think these were individuals that grew up here, as I considered most who grew up here like him, fine people, but that they were people from across the border.
He calmed down and said he would do just that. He then came to me a month later and agreed.
This man IMHO deserved my full respect and got it. Still has it.
Served with such individuals as well and must say they are a credit to this nation. Hard working and dedicated individuals!

Women have their roles and men have theirs?
What does that mean? More towards Old School values (man the provider, woman the caretaker)?
Dunno if that's a step forward, honestly.
You should have a discussion with my sister about that. She's tougher than any man I know, except for the Jaegers that frequent our dropzone.
-
st santa... ya know... I really do believe that you are right when you say you don't know.
Don't consider myself a racist in the real sense... I am an equal opportunity hater. My guess is that most of the guys on this board that I give the worst time to are lilly white.
like it or not.. a large segment of the population of the U.S is gonna be brown. I kinda like their values. They are like me in one respect that probly isn't good tho... they hate government but do little to change it.. A whole bunch of lazs like apathetic citizens = mexico politics probly.
I also know what it is like to be on the other side of prejudice... Most first or second generation Americans of mexican decent don't really trust me at first and have preconcieved notions of what I am. No big deal... they have a right to... if I ignore it it all works out.

Racist.

Actually I'm not real sure these are new Americans.
Some were here before the whites moved in.
My own ethnicity .... hmmm well my grandparents on both side had allot of Amerindian.
And I was told when I was quite young NOT to speak of it. Seems the states the came from before getting to CA were very unfriendly toward them.
Note: 2 of my ancestral types were not allowed into some salons during the 1800.
There were signs that said NO Indians, Irishman, or Dogs. (before you dweebs get goin NO none of my ancesters were DOGS)
StSanta... your sister is what she is. IMHO women and men are different. Mentally, physically, emotionally, etc. and no matter how much anyone trys to tell me they are the same I will disagree.
I'am further of the opinion that men and women do different things better.
Doesn't mean that either can not be tuff or stronge or anything. It means they are different and each does different things better then the other.
It also means that IMHO each deserves our full respect, unlessl they show they don't deserve it.
I consider this to be SOP regarding respect for all races/racial types as well.
I've know American's of Japanese decent to be just as ethical, moral, strong valued, etc as any other American. More so then some white? American's I've known.
Skin color seems to create a sterotype among almost all people. Yet I've found the American Spirit in ALL colors.
My Grandfather on my mothers side always told me NEVER judge another by the color of their skin, but by their actions, words, and deeds. And to try to always walk a mile in their shoes before I did that.
-
If nothing else this shows that skin colour is not realy that good an indicator of whether you'll get on with someone or not! Its our values that realy have an influence. Lazs I do kind of agreee with your general stance here. I'm not sure about your ideas on women men and roles etc, and you already know my gun opinion. But basicaly you are right. Get under the skin as it were and often we find we are more similar than we might at first think.

I've seen first hand the good and the bad in this community. BUT, to say it is exclusivly of Mexican descent is a farce.
I've met more than my share of arabs, Indians and asians that have become US citizens. What is different about them is they have some real "old school" family values that do alot to keep the family together. Above that they are actually PROUD to be Americans.
My wife's family is/are German immegrants. A few of them have actually gotten US citizenship and are real proud Americans.
As far as being an immigrant goes my wifes biggest complaint was the fact that everyone (including schools) allways catered to the Mexicans as far as english as a second language goes. She learned alot of her english watching seseme street at first but at school they didn't have anyone to help her learn that spoke German.....plenty of spanish speaking teachers though.
-
Agreed. The Mexicans we've been getting up here are by far some really good hard working people.
the best way I've seen it put is by a local Radio personality we have here.
Went somthing like this
"Say what you want about the Mexicans but these people will WORK.
And they work their arses off doing anything you want them to do without a moan groan or complaint.
You need them to work 14 hours a day 8 days a week they work 14 hours a day, 8 days a week and dont complain about it.
They also dont have alot of the "issues" you get with alot of other people.
They dont call in sick, they dont say they cant come in or they will be late because they have to pick up their meds or their kid or because they are depressed They dont need "mental health days" And they dont develop attitudes.
If they get a 15 minute break they take a 15 minute break then they go right back to work
If you want them to shovel crap they shovel crap.
As long as you have work for them these people will work And it doesnt matter what the job is they will do it.
But these people will WORK and work HARD"
From what I've seen of them. I am in total agreement

I was visiting a friend in Redwood City,CA in 2001, where there is a huge Mexican population, which has probably exceeded the caucasian population by now. Hehe, I remember taking my laundry to the laundermat one Saturday morning - I was the only white guy in there, all others were Mex, but that was OK.
From the balcony of my hotel room, I could see another hotel being built - just a small one, 2-3 storeys. The building workers were all Mex, and by heck they DID work hard! They were putting the roof on when I was there, and they kept right on the job and never stopped. It was a pleasure to watch them, their radio tuned to an Hispanic station, cheerfully hammering in tile after tile.
In Britain, there would have been a couple of tea breaks and a cigarette break in the time I was watching.

Would I be a racist if i posted my favorite and least favorite immigrant nationalities?
-
wrag... "American" inb this case is more than a place. They were not "Americans" when the place belonged to mexico or.... loosely.. indians.
skydancers sig is correct... you can't have rights without responsibilities... you can't have the right to freedom if you are not willing to defend it... no right to live if you don't defend... No right to a fimily if you are not responsible to them to defend them.
I believe that he means something not quite so truthful tho... I believe he means that you can't have human rights unless your government says you are doing it the way they like. Which really means, in most cases, that you have a lot of responsibilities (restrictions on your life) with very few rights.
As for the gun thing... I think these Americans know, even more so than the city dwelling taxi riders, what responsibility and guns have to do with being an American and a family man.
And St santa... I am not a young man but I could kick the crap out of your sister. It's really not a fair fight. I wouldn't tho because... I do everything possible to avoid hitting women. You, and her are the ones who are wrong not I. What is better? Thinking that women are the weaker sex and defering to that or thinkinhg we are all equal and fair game if we get angry at each other?
I have fought dozens of men in my life... no women.. would you feel it more fair.... less biggoted... more "modern" if half of those people had been women.
