Hey Folk:
I need some help in my first painting, I'm attempting a 190 A5 killing an IL in the Kurland pocket. I used Selectors JG54 skin as my base, but I'm having a heck of a time getting the colours correct. I studied all the JG54 info about the groups that were there at the KUrland pocket and learned a GREAT amount of info at their web site: http://www.jg54greenhearts.com/index.htm
My question is, in Selectors skin, are the lighter patches painted white, or are they unpainted metal? I'm curious, even tho my artist buddy points out that a shiny patch of metal, would detract from the point of having camo. in the first place. But, I contend that an unpolished metal can be even less reflective than a white paint. So is that unpolished dull metal, or a whitish paint.?
Below are a pic and a painting of the same plane. It's a 109G from I / JG 54 in the Kurland pocket. The art is from J.J Boucher , I found no website of his to pass on, but prints of all his work can be purchased at any Online Aviation Art store.
Thanks for any and all inputs in response to this question.

JG 54 didn't have any A-5s on hand during Kurland. The had a few A-6s and A-9s but most were flying A-8s.
The 109 above isn't a picture taken in Kurland. The only 109s in kurland were recce aircraft (109G-8s mostly) of Nahaufklärungsgruppe 5.
The paint scheme that Selector did is of an A-4 from JG54 and no in Kurland either.
During Kulrand JG 54 didn't use any elaborate paint schemes or even 'white wash' for winter.
There are profiles in Weal's (Osprey):
Jagdgeschwader 54 'Grünherz'
and in

You can pick this up any where from 20 - 30 USD.
I wrote the Kurland scenario that we did in AH and we had custom skins for the A-5 (done as a A-6) and the A-8. This was AH1 and I don't know if the skins we ever built into the terrain. For the scenario they weren't. Well they were and the terrain was submitted but for some reason the new build with all the skins was never uploaded by Skuzzy for download.
I provided scans of JG54 190 profiles to the skinners and they did them.

Thank's for the info Wotan.
.I really had a blast during Kurland scenario, good job. I still have the scans you put on the BBS, I just didn't know they were the only skins in the Kurland.
Oh well, I'll call it 'somewhere cold', lol.
I would still like to know if , in the JG 54 skin by Selector, is the light splotches paint or stripped metal?
