when watching a film and watching nme speeds, does the speed increase in small increments, ie every 1mph or does it jump from time to time, like 10-20mph jumps, then go back to every 1mph?

Yep it does jump like that with a high rate of acceleration, or deceleration. It does the same thing when you have your E6B opened up and are in a dive or climb. Droppes or jumps 10-20mph at a time then lvl's off to a steady increase or decrease.
