Title: Man snaps, church shooting
Post by: Octavius on March 13, 2005, 08:27:53 AM
Suburbanite man snaps during a church service in Brookfield, WI, kills 7 and then himself.  They had been using a hotel for services for several years now.

More guns = less crime!! :aok

Interesting that seven people were killed, as this was the number of cases in which guns saved the day in Dago's last post from the Armed Citizen.

No doubt the gun-lobby will be along in due course, to point out that these seven people would have died anyway - the killer would have found another way to kill them all. Maybe he would have poisoned each one of them in turn. Maybe he would have asked them to accompany him to a hotel where he could push each of them off a tenth floor balcony.

And always remember - it wasn't the gun's fault. These people died in the name of the 2nd amendment, and their deaths were a small price to pay for the freedom, nay the right to bare arms.

Toad quoted Ben Franklin (?) in another thread thus:
Quote
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

and added

but you folks gave it up, which makes Ben Franklin's quote about liberty and safety stand out prominently in my mind.

Safety? Sure... I'll do a google search to find out the last time we had a mass shooting outside an English Church.(http://www.zen33071.zen.co.uk/jester.gif)

Umm actually looking at it... 45 year old male, church go'er, doesn't matter what country he was in I doubt he would have had trouble owning a gun of some sort.

Urchin,

you are right - I am not celebrating the deaths of those 7 people. And FWIW, I believe my post was no more disrespectful than the opening posts made by AKS\/\/ulfe, Gunslinger, lazs, jackal1 and toad in stringer's "butter knife" (http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=138510) thread, in which they sneered in derision when told of a man who went on a stabbing rampage in London, killing at least one and injuring five others. Heck, the title of the thread says it all.

When challenged over the respect issue by Tali, Toad summed it up thus:
Quote
No one is laughing at the loss of life or the sorrow caused by the nut-case perpetrator. Murder is murder, wherever and however it's done.

However, if you've been around this board longer than a month or so and you've followed the various gun control debates one would see there are some positons that have been supported and some that have been undermined by this incident. I think it's normal that there would be some "ribbing" about that.
Fair's fair, eh? What goes around comes around.

Fair enough... I rarely cruise this forum... and when I do I'm usually on my own little personal commie crusade lol.  I just missed the backdrop is all.
