I don't necessarily dislike pidgeons. the ones that our falcons don't get we shoot with our pellet guns. it keeps you sharp.

I like to draw pigeons in my etchings. They make great empty space fillers and add some life to an otherwise dull architectural scene. Here's a detail of an etching plate in progress.
Btw, pigeons are eloquently called "rock doves" by connoisseurs. Dunno if they are good to eat or not. Many urban dwelling "rock doves" are popcorn and peanut fed though.

I have the song on CD unfortunatly there isnt a playable version oin the web I could find.
It can be found on Kaza and the like
Its one of my favorite Tom Lehrer tunes (along with New math)
You'll have to be satisfied with the lyrics
"Posioning Pidgeons in the Park"
Spring is here
Spring is here
Life is skittles and life is beer
I think the loveliest time of the year is the spring
I do
Don't you?
course you do
but there's one thing that makes spring complete for me
and makes every sunday a treat for me...
...all the world seems in tune on a spring afternoon as we're poisoning pidgeons in the park
[every Sunday you'll] see my sweetheart and me as we poison the pidgeons in the park
when the birdies see us coming they all try and hide, but they still go for peanuts when coated in cyanide...
The sun's shining bright,
Every thing seems alright
While we're poisoning pigeons in the park!
We've gained notoriety
And caused much anxiety
In the Aduban Society.
They call it impiety,
And lack of propriety,
And quite a variety,
Of unpleasant names.
But it's not against any religion,
To want to dispose of a pigeon.
So, if Sunday you're free,
Why don't you come with me,
And we'll poison the pigeons in the park.
And maybe we'll do in
A squirrel or two,
While we're poisoning pigeons in the park.
We'll murder them all,
Amidst laughter and merriment -
Except for the few we take home to experiment.
My pulse will be quickenin'
With each drop of strichenine
We feed to a pigeon -
It just takes a smidgeon!
To poison a pidgeon in the park!

That plate if zinc, and the ink it holds, would be about a 45 min. to one hour bite. The plate is copper (b+w photo 35mm SLR camera). The copper plate has a two hour bite on the doves and they stand out pretty good. Copper bites more slowly than zinc and with different acid baths. Zinc tends to spread out and underbite, but copper won't do that.as readily. It bites straight down with no underbiting. The actual print is not as dark as you made it, but I believe a successful etching is a dark and decisive one. Not easy to do by hand.

just took the image and inverted it.
interesting though, back when i was doing prints i didnt have easy access to digital images and it never occurred to me to preview it by scanning.
anywho. its been awhile. i have only worked with zinc. i once did a series of prints based upon all quiet on the western front. wish that i still had them.
so...curious...who are you looking at for technique and ideas? any favorites?
where are you conducting this toxic operation?
do tell.
