Iwas crusing at 350+ in an ar234 only to have a yak close in and out me on the ground. whats up with that:confused:
-
Wtf are you talking about?
Wtf is it doing in this forum?
-
How does a yak catch up to an ar 234 running over 350 mph and shoot it down.
-
wrong forum
a yakt can easily do 350. If he dove from above he could easily go much faster.
-
glad to see the forum police are out in force.

1) Yak pilot sees lower Arado
2) Yak pilot has a stupid grin on his face
3) Yak pilot dives on teH 234
4) Yak pilot shoots teH 234 down.
5) Yak pilot has a field day seeing someone cry on teH forum about this.
;)
Seriously.. look at the speed charts. Even in level flight the Yak will catch a 350mph Jet at most alts. I've shot down a full formation of 234s in a Hurricane I in beta.. altitude is the key.

altitude is the key
So is speed :) The thing might've not reached it's topspeed yet.
But dang, in a Hurricane mk.I? I can only think of the expression on the Ar-234 driver's face :D
*Ar-234 pilot sees Hurricane
*Ar-234 pilot watches it attacking
*Ar-234 pilot laughes and gets back to his cross-words
*-Fill in the rest-

I've had the Yak9T in a dive reach 550 mph AND be controllable. Not easily controllable, but its not frozen either. More than enough to get a good shot on a target the size of a bomber. One time I've had a Yak close in on 600 mph. It compressed pretty hard but I was able to trim it out. I couldnt believe it didnt rip those stubby little wings right off, but the tough little bugger held together.

Ive had the same problem but with different planes. Was in a P-51D, had an A6m2 on my 6, dove from 8k to deck easily going over 500 mph, not only did the zero keep up but also caught me and shot me down from 200 yrds. I have herd other people tell me about the same problem. Not sure if it was a freak thing. What do u guys think? Is the physics screwed up or just a bug?

I've chased down 234s with a Hurricane. All I needed was about 5,000 feet of altitude. Even the IL-2 can exceed 450 mph in a dive.
My advice... Keep your 234s off of the deck.
My regards,
Widewing

Yes, an A6M5 can hit 500 in a dive and hold together. I tested it quite a bit in practicing for fighting them in the Rangoon scenario, and wanted to know just what the limits were. At 500 the plane starts shaking and much over it enters severe compression. You can trim out of course, but it takes time. But the bad part is that this version of the Zero CAN exceed 500 mph in a dive and live. The A6M2 is a different story, but even it is far too flexible.

Another thing I've learned about these kinds of claims is that memory, is a very very fragile thing.
People remember what they wish to remember, not necessarily what really happened.

I'm not sure if it is the same, but does slip streaming apply to aircrafts the way it does with cars?
I know that cars can create a nice tunnel of low resistance behind them, allowing cars behind to easily catch up. I'm not shure what really happens when one aircraft is behind another.
-
It's not a good thing in planes. Prop wash as well as wake turbulence can be dangerous for the trailing aircraft and it is generally ill-advised to fly behind another plane (except when shooting at it, of course), or to cross in front of another plane and put them through your wake.

Thanks for the info!
I read that page and learned alot. Those vortices sound very evil. I wonder if they are modeled in AH? I'm going to try flying behind some planes to see if mine behaves funny. Getting someone to cross your path sounds like a fun tactic to manipulate.

took my yak to over 2000ais..couldnt land tho...the rubber burned off the wheels.
