#1. When you shoot the vertical stab off a 262, the horizontal stab and elevators remain on the plane, although hovering in space attached to nothing several inches above the top of the rear fuselage.
#2. Hits on the HORIZONTAL stab will knock off the vertical stab, while leaving the horizontal stab and elevator intact.
#3. It appears that 1x20mm hit on the horizontal stab will knock the vertical stab off the plane. OTOH, 6 or 8 13mm and 20mm hits right in the cockpit won't kill the pilot.
I got this on film if you need it.

As per #3, didn't the 262 have heavy pilot armor?

As far as I know, just on the windshield/dash and behind the seat. Few planes had much, if any, armor on the sides of the cockpit, and even fewer had protective glass on the sides. So sticking a bunch of HEI minengeschoss holes in the perspex right in line with the pilot's noggin, and up the side of the fuselage in line with the rest of him, should be fairly fatal you'd think.

303 hits = pilot wound or death instantly

While gloating over my film, I noticed another problem with the 262's damage. It seems I inflicted that hydraulics system hit that makes the landing gear drop down partially. The new problem I noticed is with the main gear. Instead of dropping down below the wing, they stick up, so you end up with the wheels protruding through the fuselage sides above the wing and below the cockpit. The nose gear looks OK.
