Title: Power Cord Management
Post by: Halo on March 14, 2005, 12:07:04 PM
One more basic question -- what is the best way to manage computer power cords?

I leave mine in a fairly neat octopus tangle because I've read in several places where it often is not a good idea to bundle cords together since they function best with a little space around them, even when shielded.

The wife wants me to better organize them together with plastic ties or even encase some together in those plastic tubes with slits for stuffing the cords inside.

I'm reluctant to do anything beyond the present coiled tangle.

What do you think -- neatify by bundling or not?

power ones should therotically be ok, just dont put USB / moniter / data transfer type cables in there.

they shoudl be kept away form the power cords mostly

Aye, what teh JBman said.  :)  If you do get any EM field around the power cables, it could seriously mess with your data.

I leave my cords in an organized mess behind the desk. Collecting dust and my wife hates me for it.

As if that wasn't enough my 1-year old daughter crawls behind the desk and swipes half of the cables off regularly. My freak 4-year old son bangs the mouse on the table and drops the keyboard + messes the headphone cables around everything daily. He got majorly po'd one day when he accidentally pressed caps lock and couldn't type the password to the computer anymore.
