Title: addictive
Post by: mechanic on March 14, 2005, 10:19:45 PM
there should be a health warning with AH.

ok, so this last few weeks I've had little to no work and have been lying around doing nothing for most of my time.

but on checking my stats this tour, I have spent 70 hours playing AH in 15days!

thats almost 20% of my total time this month, not counting sleep, eating and girlfriend. taking an average of 12 hours sleep a day, this means i have played AH for (approx.) 70 hours out of 100 hours awake!

thats sickening.

do i have grounds to sue HT? :p there should be a health warning.

MAN! where do the hours go?

how much can you overdose on AH when your 'in the zone'?

this month i have gone to sleep after a long session, dreamnt of LA7s with alt coming for me, then woken up, smoke and coffee, back on AH.

I'm definitely off for as few days at least. If not only to see my better half a bit more.

i know one thing for sure: Ain't no sunshine when she's gone......

anyone else ever get this bad?

I dont want to know how many hours I've spent on total...

I would go so far as to say that it has helped in a way to strengthen my relationship with my better half tho.

Spending 100% of your free time with one or the other; AH or your girl is no good. Just gotta find that happy medium and everythings peachy. Oh yeah, maybe I should place "real life" in there somewhere too but thats no fun.

Heck I even let her play once in a while when shes around and I can hear the ack in the distance. (keeps her occupied and the ack down) The few times I use vox or have it on, I let her talk on range... Very entertaining to hear the responces.

Like locking yourself in the room by yourself playing Aces High while she watches Sex and the City by herself in the other room wondering why you care more about a stupid geeky game more than her was a good move.  Sweet game playa'

I remember when I started some of the guys there had flown for close to 10 yrs. I was like.."Losers..man how can someone end up like that?!"

Well..its now 9 yrs I have in flight sims, between AW,WW2OL,and AH. Do I feel like a loser? No..but I have lost track of the time. I keep telling myself I should go find something else to occupy my time, but when you find other adults, who still like to play with Tonkas in the sandbox, its tuff to say no.

 Loser? Well..maybe a little :)

I always kept it to myself until the night after I introduced AHI to my flight instructor....he told me "man i coulnt sleep last night....i would close my eyes and all i saw was AH"...

a big smile came upon my face and I knew I wasnt the only one

Woa! There's your problem right there. Trim down to 6 or 7 like the rest of the world and you've got another 5-6 hours to play AH.

Well, OK, 4 hours to play AH and 2 to do whatever it is you do with that girlfriend.

Don't worry about it, batfink.  When I was out of work last year for 10 months, I spent a lot of time on AH.  It helped with the depressing effect of no income.  My friends (both of them) and squaddies were there for me when I was down, and kept me going.

If you are getting the same results, keep it up!

Heh I flew on Sunday most of the day............

1 problem it was my wedding aniversarry. Of course, I did not realise this until, my wife was trying to show me some stuff she bought at the store, while I was in a huge fight.

She finally said  "At least you could listen to me on our Anniv." Then she stormed out. .....

I kept playing, nothing I could do at that point I was already in trouble.

I wonder how long I will be paying for that little lapse.

When I started playing AW in '97 I was 12. So I played a lot of it, those who flew know that I was always on and never seemed to sleep. Back then it was a little more understandable to see a 12 year old kid on as much as I was. But now, 8 years later, lol it's still the same result. I'm on more than I should, but I cut the precious things out to have a "social life" too. SLEEP! But honestly, where else can you have the fun you do here. There's no difference between us, and those weirdos that sit in a chat room for hours. :) At least our chat room has colors and violence

great posts guys.

thanks for the 'support'    heh.

thanks shubie.

anyone know of a good 'back up dealer' if AH goes wrong?

i would probably have to enter back into real life.

that might be devastating.

oh.....is it bad to say  'roger that dear' when she asks if i want steak for dinner? :)

One day at a time! "I am powerless over AH and my life has become unmanagable." Look for support groups. By now they must be everywhere. I found that taking on an incredibly daunting task requiring all of my time let me fly about 4 hrs each month for about 4 or 5 months now. So instead of flying I went through withdrawls. The sshakes and sweating are almost over!
Peace

Geeez ..if you are knockin back 10 to 12 hours sleep, your not an addict yet. You are just chipping. :D
I remember near the end of AW I made the statement that I must be getting old. I believe it was Wax who asked me why I thought that. I told him that after about 48 to 50 hours of continuous play my backside would get a little sore. :D
